IDK if it was just my room, but the headrest was SO uncomfortable LOL. Imagine pressing your face into a thin pillow on a hard U-shaped metal bar. It was near impossible to enjoy the massage when the metal was digging into my cheeks and chin the whole time. By the end of it, my face was red and had the U-shape imprint on my cheeks :-( Ouchy I checked in for a 90 minute traditional Thai massage. They had me circle my areas of focus (shoulders, head, and lower back) and preferred pressure level, then walked me to the room. Each room is separated by drapes, and are equipped with a floor mat, pillows, small basket for personal items, and a shirt/pants to change into. My massage therapist was Rayna. I didn't realize that she would ONLY massage my focus areas for 99% of the entire 90 minutes LOL. Most places I've been to usually dedicate 20-30 minutes to focus areas and then continue with a full body massage, but my front side, arms, and legs were barely touched. A little disappointed... But maybe if you REALLY want a targeted massage this is better for you. The massage was mostly with her hands, and very little back-walking, which I prefer. But still very hard to enjoy bc of the face/headrest situation :-( Sometime during the massage, I think a rough callus ripped on her hand and started dragging a sharp piece of skin against my back every time she used her palm on me. It was hella itchy at best, and a sharp pain at its worst. I didn't say anything because we already had a slight language barrier so I wasn't sure if she'd understand... By the end of it, I was totally slathered in tiger balm. Granted, she did wipe most residue off with a hot towel, but the smell lingered. It stuck to my clothes, car, and hair. ALSO, the bathroom is shoes-off... People leave their shoes at the entryway cabinets before entering the hallway, so it's not THAT gross, but I still prefer not to go shoeless into a public restroom... read more

Very dissatisfied. Nice place. Nice staff. No funny business. But the masseuse clearly didn't have real training. I paid extra for deep tissue for which she used her elbow, painfully geinding her arm bones over my bones and across my muscles instead of working with the grain to smooth out the knots in my back muscles. I also paid $25 extra for CBD which I've always been able to feel but felt nothing from this up charge. Maybe they use too little. Overall I would give the massage 2 stars. However, the desk staff could tell I wasn't happy and encouraged me to share. They called the owner in an attempt to make it right. I'm a business owner, so of course I was open to this. The owner was at dinner and promised to call me the next day. She never did. I need 3-4 massages per month for computer work back ache. Real loss of an opportunity to win me back. Nang Sida is really conveniently located by downtown Berkeley so I decided to give it a try. The cafe next door is a great place to wait if you get there too early. My first session I just signed up for anyone and was paired with Olive. She was great! I really appreciated her efforts and requested her for another message, so this review is really about her and encompasses both experiences. My first experience was the three hour therapy + aroma + foot reflexology package. I highly recommend it! I wasn't sure if it was because it was such a long session or not, but Olive focused on my preferred areas (you make notes on a chart before your session) AND gave me a full body tune up! I really feel like she had a good pace and made really good use of our time. I can't believe how the time stretched. I really felt like my whole body was worked over and that my problem areas got special attention and we did so many good stretches. Because my schedule was tighter, my second massage was "only" two hours. Still, Olive paid special attention to my requested areas AND I still felt like a got a full body experience. So I think Olive must be experienced enough to allocate her time well. I personally feel that you should invest properly (time and money) in a a really good massage, so I kind of feel like a short massage might be a waste. But I'd try a one hour massage with her. Olive is really good at finding knots and tense spots and applying strong pressure. For a massage, I am pretty pain tolerant. She still checked in with me several times to make sure I was alright. (Just enough times! Not too much.) Because I prefer my messages to be a bit strenuous, I was definitely sore after. But it's still soooo relaxing. And I can tell that my body feels lighter and freer, just after and days after. I think Olive must have remembered I got cold the first time. My second visit, she checked in with me about the temperature! I really liked that. The room is typically very warm and comfortable, but after the hot stones and the oil my body really cools down. So it was really nice of her to remember and ask. In general, Olive is very courteous and receptive to my feedback. I am pretty quiet and probably not direct enough, but she promptly helped me repeat a stretch and kept working on a specific spot when prompted. With the stretch in particular, I wanted to repeat it and she did a couple of times and for longer. So it was a really good therapy!! The best 90 minute thai yoga massage I ever had. I am so happy that I dont have to cross the bridge. Really convenient location, street parking, and decor and music really relaxes you when enter. $110 for 90 minutes and well worth it.. I had paul. Places is very clean. They dress you in the thai shorts and tanktop for females and shorts only for men. I enjoyed the stretches and my bones cracking, releasing all the work stress. I've only been to this place a few times over the years, but it's mostly because I feel the therapists don't really pay attention to requested treatment areas. Every time I'll circle my knees and/or ankles, and every time, they'll spend the majority on the typical shoulders/neck/back. Most of the time it's okay because the pain is tolerable, but today (and because my usual place was booked), I went in in hopes of some serious relief. The massage was okay. I tried to hint that I had circled some areas that had not yet been worked. I think it takes me longer to spell m-a-s-s-a-g-e than to count the minutes spent on those problem areas. What made it worse was that I gave $100 for an $85 massage, and instead of giving me change, she said "thank you!" Sorry miss. You can't decide what I tip, and when I ask for change, you don't get to question *why.* Eventually, after telling me they didn't have anything, I got some form of change, but the whole exchange was a turn off. I understand that tips are particularly important to those in the service industry, and I'm all for tipping well...but a tip should be earned; not expected. read more

Wow. I can't say enough about this place and my masseuse, Olive. I came with extremely tight shoulders and neck. I asked for the "office" massage and foot massage. Both were so thorough. She worked unbelievably hard on my rocks for shoulders and steel neck. She often asked if the pressure was ok. I was more worried for her hands given how tight my body was. I am most definitely looser now, as far as my body will allow, and until Fall teaching starts next week. Really, masseuses work unbelievably hard physically, and this is, I think, particularly true in Thai massage, where stretching the clients body is involved. No one should short a tip for these professionals or complain about tipping. I agree our tipping culture has gone way too far in many areas, but not in this one at all. I keep hearing people on different massage sites here and when I was looking in LA complain about tipping. These workers go to school to learn specific techniques and physically work for several hours a day on, likely very tight bodies...otherwise why would they be there? They deserve extra. From the get-go, making an appointment online was very easy and fast on their website. As I wanted Reflexology specifically, the masseuse listed as available at the time I originally made did not specialize in that, so the front desk called in and kindly asked if I wanted a different one half an hour later than my original appointment, which I took. Check in was smooth and fast. The staff was very welcoming, professional, and kind. They definitely respect your space and were not overly talkative. The massage area itself was great and spacious, there are about 8-10 rooms on either side of a dimly lit and warm hallway. Area was very clean and we go in barefoot after leaving the front desk room. It was also nice that they provided oversized, comfy shorts to change into! Massage itself was 90 minutes of pure relaxation, as I dozed off after the initial hot towel massage/rub. At the very end, the masseuse worked on not just the feet but also legs and shoulders, stretching them out in various directions, which I sorely needed. Whatever lotion they were using also was hypoallergenic, which is a huge plus because most places I've gone leave me sneezing and extremely sniffly for the entirety of the massage. I went here a couple of weeks ago (be sure to check their website for a first timer discount). Came here on a Friday night, filled out the usual first time client form, took my shoes off, and they let me to the back where the different massage areas are. They provided me with the traditional top and pants, and asked me to take off everything and change into those clothes. I received an hour and a half massage last night, although I booked a two hour. And I was totally surprised by The lack of professionalism, because I've been to this Place many times. The Massage therapist did not have his mask on his face when I arrived (I could see him through the window on the street) There is a sign on the door that says wait to come in to get your temperature checked but he let me in and checked my temperature inside. I explained to him I booked a two hour massage and he said no it's a one hour and a half massage , I explained this three times. He obviously wanted to give me an hour and a half massage because he ended it at an hour and a half anyway. At the end of the massage, he put someone in a booth right next to me not following Covid protocol. During the checkout, he pressured me into me how much tip I would want to give him, I stated, $20 due to his lack of following instructions. He stated to me, "oh! 20 percent? and then he Proceeded to give himself a $24 tip even though I said $20. This place is not safe, does not follow COVID protocol and I will not be coming back here, Which is too bad because it's very close within walking distance to my The massage itself which was adequate at best. The therapist had long nails And left the booth multiple times to go get hot towels which ended up being really cold. The lights were turned up in the place, which provided zero ambience. This is THE place. And Bill is THE therapist. I'd always considered the wizards at Marina Thai Massage in SF to be the benchmark for excellence. I prefer this place now. They walk on you. It's Thai massage in the Wat Po / Bangkok style. I altered their blueprint a bit and asked Bill if he could skip all the oil-on-the-back stuff and just crush me with his feet for 90 minutes. I'm a Thai massage therapist myself, and I go out and receive one session per week. Bill is REALLY good. He has a slew of techniques I'd been totally unfamiliar with. The atmosphere in the place is just gorgeous! Such a relaxed, peaceful and cozy set-up and so quiet! My masseuse was Vicki and I have to say she gave me the BEST massage I have ever gotten.
