In response to a mediocre review of a massage I received here, the owner first posted a response on YELP using my name and thus violating Yelp's Terms of Service. They removed her response. Now, one month later, she has written to me and reiterated several things she said in her public response. Here's a summary of her most egregious claims: 1. As a non-Thai person, I have no right to an opinion about Thai massage. 2. The unsatisfactory massage I received was my fault because I didn't communicate what I wanted (even though I had). 3. There are many different forms of Thai massage, so if I was not happy with my massage it is only because I am not familiar with other styles. 4. As a non-Thai person, I don't know what I'm talking about. What ever happened to the customer is always right? I was kind in my original review and gave them three stars, but I'm changing to one star. I have never had a business owner respond in such a way. I will NEVER be back. You've been warned. Update: the owner previously had a response removed because she used my full name. Now she did it again. I posted my original review one month ago and she responded then. Her response was taken down. Now, one month later, she messaged me and basically told me the same thing. Then she told me my heart was filled with hate. I am appalled at her response. Not only did she not take any responsibility for the customer's experience, she blamed me for it and then personally attacked me. Went in experiencing some serious and sensitive low back pain. Dee gave me the best Thai massage I have ever had. She asked frequently about the pain, made adjustments so that I was comfortable, and even had me start by laying on my back since laying on my stomach was too sharply painful. Needless to say, after my massage I felt like a whole new person. Dee knew exactly where to massage to provide relief and even sent me home with some stretches to practice. Amazing small business. I haven't had a massage in several months and my back was so tight. My practitioners was sensitive, appropriately firm, and really kneaded out all of my knots in so many ways. The entire experience from start to finish was courteous, respectful, restful/ refreshing, and my muscles feel SO much better. They are also clean, professional, and really have a great relaxing environment without being pretentious. 1 hour was good enough for me, but I really didn't want it to end. An exceptional experience every time I come here. Like the name suggests, they focus on traditional style Thai massages. I've been feeling very stiff and having a hard time bending down to tie my shoe laces. After my massage I noticed I was more flexible and bending down was no longer a problem. My lower back stopped aching. I felt less tension in my neck and shoulders. Truly felt rejuvenated and relaxed! The staff is talented, friendly, and professional. I get assigned to someone different every time I come and they're all excellent and skilled in their craft. I paid $70 for 1 hour and left a well deserved 20% tip. My favorite part was the complimentary tea they would serve after the massage. They stopped doing it because of COVID. I have gone to Metta a handful of times, and each time I receive amazing therapeutic massage from talented therapists. They can get into the muscles deeply and with presence to their touch. They have table massage and floor massage; and for their traditional Thai massage, they give you loose Thai-style clothing for wear during the session. They offer tea after the session. As a Bay Area native who gets massages relatively often, Metta Traditional Thai Massage was a surprising and lovely gem to stumble upon. My favorite therapist at a different spa unfortunately doesn't practice anymore, and I've been all over trying to find someone who could meet my specific needs for almost two years. Boy, do I wish I went to Metta and gotten Thai bodywork done sooner! The interior is charming and quaint, and the no-shoe element adds to the clean feel. My private room was spacious with a nice little area for my things and a comfy massage table. I opted for an oil massage since that's what I'm used to, and I enjoyed the oil's slight herbal scent that was relaxing and pleasant. However, my mind was completely blown away by my therapist's technique, strength, and intuition. Every other massage I've gotten elsewhere had parts to it that were slightly painful that I attributed to the accumulated tension in my body, so I would just grin and bear it since I knew I'd feel better later. But not here. Each movement was purposeful, powerful, and eased me in ways I've never felt before. Being stretched and stepped on might sound a little strange, which was actually why I hadn't tried Thai massage before, but this ultimately made my experience all the better. Having someone use their whole being to work on mine was exactly what I was looking for and what I needed. At the end of our session, I made sure to let the therapist know she gave me the best massage of my life and that I'd definitely be back. My biggest regret was only making an hour long appointment, but at least I now know that my future visits will have to be 90 minutes or more. read more

I went in with my partner for an hour long massage and it was a great experience. We're frequent Theragun users as well but there are just some things it can't do. That's where the masseuse comes in and gives that extra attention to detail. Pressure was adjusted upon my request to get rid of any nasty knots on my back and the premises were well kept and very clean. On another note, I had forgotten an item but was rest assured it was kept safe upon my pick up. The people are very sweet, genuine and great at what they do. Would highly recommend! read more

5 stars...5 more stars...and then 5 more stars for Metta Traditional Thai Massage!!! I had surgery about 5 weeks ago, maybe 4--who is counting? Anyway, my friend took me for a massage to try and relieve some holiday stress and post surgery stress, etc. I have never had a Thai massage before, only the usual old massages at spas and so forth. THIS WAS SPECTACULAR!!! We parked on the street not too far from the store front and walked in to a wonderfully relaxing environment. There was soft, traditional music playing in the background and a scent that permeated the air with some soft relaxing effluvium. The girl at the counter greeted us and we told her we had an appointment. She offered us hot tea and a seat while we waited. The waiting area is decorated beautifully with wall hangings, fountains, pictures, tapestries, etc. There are several benches lining the walls and a place to secure your shoes underneath the seating area. We enjoyed our hot tea and some friendly conversation until they called us in for our massages. I really did not know what to expect. We were led into a decently sized room with two beds and a place for our clothing and a table for our tea. There were also little outfits on the bedding for us to wear during the massage. We got undressed, then redressed in the massage clothing and got comfy on the two beds. The ladies entered quickly and we told the associate working with me that I had a recent surgery, so she would not re-brake my poor foot. She was so gentle with my foot area--but so tough with the rest of my body--which was EXACTLY what I needed! The time seemed to pass too quickly, I really did not want to leave, though my companion was beat up and ready to go...lol The massage was extremely relaxing and she really put a lot of effort into making sure I was okay and relaxed the entire time. We even both tipped the girls, and they stopped us as we left to make sure we knew that the other had tipped--wow! Honest and awesome! I highly recommend Metta Traditional Thai massage in Albany, down the road from Berkeley. All of the practitioners are skilled and have deep knowledge of muscles, fascia, joint movement and function, and overall wellbeing. The environment is traditional and chill with a quiet waiting area. You'll be asked to change into traditional clothes, so you can move with ease as your massage therapist bends and stretches and lengthens your entire body. I had not been back here since prior to the beginning of the pandemic, probably late 2019. I finally made it back today and was so happy I did. Ninety minutes of getting to relax, and let go into bliss. I had requested extra attention on my arms and got the most fantastic arm and shoulder massage as part of my time. I'm a massage therapist myself so I am quite choosy with what works for me, and this is definitely a favorite place. I love the use of the feet, the stretches, and the inclusion of oil massage. I had my first Thai massage by mistake in Palm Springs in August, the word Swedish must mean something different in Chinese. At any rate I was glad that I got a traditional Thai massage. Since then I have searched for a place that specializes in Traditional Thai massages. Thank god for Yelp. Found this gem while visiting the Bay Area. Clean, professional environment. Each massage area is separated by curtains so everyone does their best to be quiet but you occasionally hear a groan or moan when someone has a elbow or knee in their back. Towards the end of the massage they will stretch your lower back and hips, this is the secret to a better golf swing. They are very responsive on yelp and in arranging appointments. The massage was great, the pressure was perfect. The masseuse asked if I have any problems before the massage. I had mild lower back pains (on the left side) and she did a great job, made it feel waay better. I asked them before I left to call my wife to arrange an appointment (for mother's day) and they did exactly that and promptly. You can semi hear people in the other massage rooms because the walls are thin but that's not a biggy considering the great massage! read more
