Like many others on this yelp chain, I have been coming to this place for a decade. It has recently…read morechanged to "Ripple Spa" and apparently it's under new management. The woman, her daughter, and her dog were there. The dog was very loud and barked a lot. Apparently I led the charge because when I got there, there was no one - and in the matter of the hour, I counted four people coming in, and I stopped counting at six interruptions in my massage when she had to go and answer the phone, talk to people in the lobby, get people settled in another room. And every time she answered the phone she told people to come down because it's not busy.... I could have forgiven all of that, and I might have even come back because historically the price has been right. The $50 massage, $10 tip, not bad for someone with no Massage training. But when I was leaving, she stopped me and asked me for $30 tip. She pointed to a new sign that they have that says that a good massage is $20 tip and a great massage is $30... and I'm wondering why would I pay 60% on a substandard massage that was interrupted 6+ times... I leave both excellent and not so excellent reviews here. Unfortunately, today was not so excellent. Would definitely not recommend because you'll be incredibly disappointed, if not incensed! :(

The lady was nice. However, I was never asked what pressure I would like. I ended up getting a 1hr…read morehot stone massage for $80. At first she was too rough so I asked to go medium. It felt like she was just going through the motions. Not really hitting the right spots. The quality of the massage did not match the price. My experience was worth $50-$60 if that. It was cold in the room but I noticed they had a small space heater in the room which helped. Until I heard someone come in. She stopped the massage to help them then proceeded to unplug and take the space heater out to put in another room I'm guessing. Which I'm sure it took up some of my massage time. As we finished she left the room and I got my things together and started to walk out. I saw her helping someone as I was leaving and she stopped me to ask for a tip. Although I feel like the massage didn't deserve one, I tipped her a little because she asked.... Almost a week has passed now and I have already had 2 strains in my back. I am 25, this does not happen. She really fucked up my back. I love to support small businesses but in my opinion, if you are going to be in the holistic healing field....make sure you know what you're doing.

This is my favorite kind of massage place. It's inexpensive but that doesn't mean you shouldn't tip…read more20% or more. Pay in cash if you want to pay less, there is a small fee for cards. I like this place because I can easily book if I call ahead an hour or two, walking in is hit or miss. I like that they use a lot of pressure. I booked a 1-hour foot and body combo online for $55. When I arrived, the employee confirmed I was…read morethere for the combo, then immediately pointed to a price sheet saying the service was actually $73 with a credit card or $69 with cash. I considered leaving because the price didn't match what was advertised online, but I decided to treat myself and went through with the appointment anyway. Unfortunately, the massage itself was just average and didn't stand out. What really left a bad impression was what happened afterward. As I was checking out, the employee stood at the front asking about a tip. I was honestly surprised. I had already paid significantly more than the advertised online price, and now I was being asked to tip on top of that. Businesses need to honor the prices they advertise or clearly update them online before customers book. Charging one price online and another price when the customer arrives is frustrating and misleading. The experience wasn't worth what I ended up paying.

Overall my massage was good, the only complaint on the massage was I believe my masseuse had nails…read moreand they were sharp and would at time dig into my skin causing slight plain and discomfort. My biggest gripe is when it can down to pay I owed $120 for two people getting an hour massage and as I was paying and writing the tip I decided $10 for each masseuse would be good since it's slightly above the industry standard of 15%. And let's not forget that a tip is just that, a tip which is optional. I paid them what was due and some. But they were pressuring me saying how they usually get $20 each for an hour massage after I had already written $20 in the tip and $140 for the total. They kept saying how they USUALLY get $20 each for masseuse but they must not understand what the word usually means. It means most the time and that this time they weren't gonna get that and i wasn't going to budge because I couldn't believe they had the nerve, gall, and audacity to tell me how to spend my money especially on an optional portion when I could've gave nothing. Had it not been for my wife offering to cover the extra $20 I would've left them upset. So in the end I had to scratch out the tip and total I wrote so that they could shutup and accept the tip they preferred and requested. It's also very brave and presumptuous to assume I had the extra $20 to spare. And if I paid you're price you can't expect or ask for more tip especially when $20 is 1/3rd of the $60 price point which is a 33.3% tip which I would never imagine giving out. And if I couldn't afford the extra money and I was giving what I could they should be grateful for that. And if I didn't have the tip amount they wanted it's never any business's business to know my personal affairs as that could be rude, traumatizing, and very invasive. All that to say I enjoyed my massage for the most part but won't be returning due to their pushy nature regarding an optional portion of my bill. Please do better!!

And, to top it off, my 1 hour massage was only 48 minutes. Gave two stars because at least the place seems and smells clean, but really bad service. Won't be going back.

I can't believe I'm going to be the first reviewer for Jin Jin. Perhaps it's because all her other…read moreclients want to keep her a secret. I was referred to her by my pilates instructor, Ronda, at Fitwise Pilates (also amazing), which is in the same plaza as Jin Jin. Jin Jin is sweet but does not give relaxing massages, so you can move along if that's what you're looking for. She reads your body and gives it a working over, finding the knots and stored stress in your muscles, and releasing it through a combination of deep massage and acupressure. She says she works with your body's meridians. Example: I work at a computer, which is bad for the posture and only exacerbates the fact that I store my stress in my shoulders and neck. What I didn't realize is that the tension is also across the front of my chest/upper pectoral/collar bone area. When she started to massage me there, it was so painful that she stopped and moved to my feet. Because there are meridians running from my shoulders to my feet. If you've ever had acupuncture, you'll know what I mean. Stick a needle between my toes and that's good for my eyes? Yes. Anyways, it's all connected. Acupuncture and acupressure operates on similar principles as far as I know. So, she worked on my feet, which was also sensitive, but not painful, and it helped release the tension in the areas that she couldn't massage. She checks in with me about where I need to do work but I trust her to know where to focus. While the session is not the most relaxing, I always leave feeling rejuvenated in that "wow, I just got a work out" sort of way. She always warns me that I may be sore the next day but so far, it's been ok. Each time I walk away knowing that she's helped me to go a bit deeper in healing my body, and cut away at the layers of injury and trauma. My body usually feels lighter too for the next week--freed from some of the accumulated weight of stress that inevitably builds up over time. I see Jin Jin monthly in combination with a monthly chiropractic tune up (Armstrong Chiropractic in SF--I'll be reviewing them after this) and regular pilates (already reviewed). I've been rehabilitating a stress-related injury in my shoulders and neck and the combination has been great. (Dr. Armstrong works on re-aligning the underlying musculoskeletal structure; Jin Jin releasing my muscles' holding patterns and breaking up the scar tissue that impedes new/proper movement; and Fitwise helps me re-learn how to move my body in a safe way and strengthens it too.) Tips: 1) Jin Jin is Chinese and her English is limited especially over the phone. When you call and/or leave a message for her, speak slowly and clearly. Repeat your number and say the numbers--510- would be "five-one-zero," not "five-one-oh," or "five-ten." 2) She only takes cash or check 3) Her rate is phenomenal: $50/hr. I always pay her tip because she's a small lady and she does some hard physical labor.
