Halo halo
Clarissa C.

Genuinely one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago!! Maybe I'm biased because I was really hungry and I naturally love Filipino food, but guys - oh my goodness!!!!! The pork rib adobo - that soy-vinegar sauce was so perfectly sticky and tangy, the ribs were admittedly a little dry, but that garlic rice made up for it. Soooo fragrant and umami and just ugh!! The veggies were also sautéed in garlic and a bit of fish paste - literally so addicting. The star of the show was the lechon sisig, which came out sizzling hot on a sizzling plate. The diced pork belly released such a nice addicting aroma that coated the rest of the dish with the oil. With that + the garlic rice - just so perfect. We couldn't stop saying "oh my gosh this is so good" after every single bite. Ended with the halo halo, a classic Filipino dessert! This is shaved ice topped with a variety of ingredients like sweet plantain, coconut strings, palm jelly, sweet potato, and ube ice cream. The light coating of condensed milk on top was also super addicting. Some shaved ice can feel flavorless after a while because it's straight ice, but this had an evaporated milk base which helps elevate that crushed ice. This is a small family owned business, and while it was pretty empty when we first went in around 12, it was crowded by 1pm.

Service was outstanding! Stopped by for a quick lunch with my sister and we were initially worried at how empty the place was on a nice day (we were the only table there), however, we had such a great time. While we weren't quite impressed by the food itself, we were very happy with our drinks and how kind and attentive staff were. We ended up staying HOURS and while other restaurants try to kick you out after 2hrs, staff encouraged us to stay as long as we wanted (we were of course continuously ordering drinks and bites). The restaurant eventually got really busy and even with a full restaurant, staff continued to encourage us to stay. Will definitely be returning.

My boyfriend and I went here on a whim during a weekday dinner. We were greeted by the friendly staff member and got to pick our table. We ordered the chicken adobo, kansi soup, and the longanisa burger. My boyfriend also ordered the San Miguel beer. We waited 20 minutes until the food came out. The kansi soup absolutely tasted like home, the way my mom cooks it. I loved the sourness and the meat is so tender and includes the bone marrow which was delicious. The chicken adobo had its own twist of flavor, which was still delicious. The lognanisa burger was a standard burger with the fixings and then added a longanisa sausage which was just fine, nothing too special. I would love to come back to try their Filipino cocktails that had calamansi in it and save more room for their dessert! Staff was attentive and friendly, would definitely visit again during brunch!

If you're going to a performance at Theater Wit, this is a restaurant where you want to have dinner before the show. They're considerate enough to ask you what time your performance will be and ensure that you're served and out of the restaurant on time. The food is reasonably priced, huge portions, and absolutely delicious. I can't believe I just discovered this restaurant after having visited Theatre Wit a dozen times. This will now be my go to pre-Theater Restaurant.

Our group was warmly greeted upon arrival. We were seated on the patio for our party of 14. We ordered all kinds of food, but mainly their beef soup, which has the right amount of umami & is well-seasoned like the rest of the dishes we tried. We enjoyed our meal, Thank you!

We stopped by near opening after finding Kubo on Yelp. The place had a cool vibe and we decided to try: - Chicken Eggrolls - Lechon Kawali - Pork Ribs Adobo - Calamansi Cream Brûlée The Eggrolls were delicious, flavorful and texturally pleasant. The two main courses were just ok. The Pork Ribs Adobo were a bit dry, the flavor of the adobo was great but I was expecting more of a fall off the bone experience but didn't get it. I was expecting more of the cool cream and glass like glaze of the cream brûlée but didn't get it. The Calamansi flavor was nice and came through. Overall it was good experience and plenty of people came in while we were there so definitely a neighborhood favorite but it was just ok for me. Try it if you're in the neighborhood!

This is some of the best service I've received in Chicago - they are amazing, friendly, and know what your group is going to like. They are so accommodating especially for large groups. The ribs are excellent and I'd love to come back for the full spread they do across the table. It's very cute inside and there's a great porch.

Second time in as many weeks and just as great the second time; I failed to finish my review then! Everything we've tried so far is DELICIOUS and the owners are wonderful, fun, friendly, accommodating, all service is great! Start with the egg rolls; crispy, fresh, and yummy. Pork ribs adobo are scrumptious, and this time brunch with the Tocilog sweet pork....Heavenly. I want it again now!!!! Seriously Pancit buckwheat noodles with longganisa sausage was perfect for sharing last time, so fresh and tasty. Cocktails are spectacular. Just a great place and perfect before or after shows at Wit Theatre.

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and got some dishes to share! The Lechon kawali was super good as well as the baked mussels! Service was also super nice and friendly!

We had a great time celebrating my sister's birthday' the staff & the owner personally arranged the "Kamayan" feast all 13 of us! The owner is Ilonggo, no wonder why the food was so delicious & homey; from lumpia to atchara to fried fish to green beans with bagoong.... sarap!!! The ambiance was chill & perfect for the birthday party my sister always wanted.

What a neighborhood gem...an amazing Filipino restaurant! Coming from Los Angeles where the Filipino cuisine culture has exploded, to my surprise, Kubo offers unique interpretations and flavors that blew my mind. First of all, the skinny egg rolls are like the length of Italian breadsticks...so convenient for dipping...genius! I loved my Pork Ribs Adobo. The meat practically fell off the bone. And the garlic rice and gravy! To die for. Everything was great! My daughter says the Halo Halo from Kubo is the best she's ever had. And she's a picky eater. Aside from the great dishes (see pics) and desserts, you need to experience the martini menu:) The Calamansi Martini is a must! And there's a nice list. And yes, there is a good selection of beer, wine, and a full bar:) Christine and Cemal made our first dinner in the city a memorable one indeed. Great hospitality and it's a dog friendly environment. The deep brown hues of the interior accentuate the colors and artistic presentations of every dish. For my next visit, I plan to select a few small plate dishes to pair with a few martinis. Summer fun is upon us Kubo People!

I called in an order for takeout. The guys on the phone was friendly, and was quick on the phone. And food was ready before the promised time. I came on a Friday night and was really surprised to see this place completely empty. This place is huge. Perhaps too big for the amount of customers that are actually coming in. I can't imagine this place ever getting completely full. I may be wrong though. They also have an outdoor patio. Overall a gorgeous setup that I hope people are taken advantage of. I was glad to have picked up my food and for it to be ready. I would just appreciate a thank you have a nice day as in heading out the door though. That goes a long way especially when you have an empty restaurant. I ended up ordering their Lumpia, Pancit Bihon, and their Lechon Sisig. It irks me to see the lumpia being called "egg rolls" on the menu. With the word lumpia in parentheses. They were good though, nice crispness and went perfectly with their sweet chili sauce. The Pancit Bihon and the Lechon Sisig were both good. They were greasy but both tasted very similar. They both had way too much red and green bell peppers. Both dishes had way too much crunch and hid the flavors of the noodles and the Lechon. Maybe they needed to be cooked longer to soften up, but after looking over their menu again, a lot of their dishes have the same bell peppers. This place definitely has potential. Although the the food had flavor is missed on a couple spots. The dishes were also on the pricier side and after we finished our food, I definitely felt I overpaid and sadly don't think I'll be returning anytime soon.

COME HUNGRY! I'M NOT KIDDING. There's been an influx of Filipino restaurants im Chicago, and I must say this is on our top 2 favorites. Yesterday we went to this restaurant and had their boodle kamayan feast. Please keep in mind you need to reserve this far in advance - at least 2 days. The boodle had so much variety and food in it that we ended up taking probably less than half home. But not like we're complaining. The wait as they assemble and put the stuff on the table was a great sight to see! I suggest going when there's not a lot of people so you can enjoy watching them put the food on the table. And please try to eat with your hands - the Filipino way! Lol. Definitely coming back with my brother and his family next time.

Hi Christine... we're coming for dinner tomorrow night... what are the parking options around there? Thanks!

Street parking and limited restaurant parking

I see that you have a full bar, but wanted to see if you might have a byob with corkage fee option?

Our apology, but no

Hello again! Is kamayan still not available at this time? Thank you again

We are back serving kamayan again. It is $59 per person plus tax and tip. It will come out to $78 per person.

Is kamayan still available? If so, how much is per head now? Is there a minimum number of people to attend?

We were going to bring it back and with another spike in Covid cases we have to push back again.

Is their patio completely enclosed and heated?

We have 2 patio, one is outdoor with roof and other side is covered with doors open. Both are heated.

How old do you have to be to enter?

It’s a restaurant, any age can come.

How much does the boodle meal usually cost? do you have options for a boodle meal good for 4-5 people? what are the choices? we are planning to eat there soon.

$36 per person plus tax and service charge. minimum of 3 guest and the menu is in our website www.kubochicago.com. Please give us a call to reserve the dining at least 24 hrs in advance .

What's in the kamayan menu?

It’s a long list. You can text me at +17084314512 or check out our website www.kubochicago.com, it’s on the menu. You will love it !

How much for Malayan feast?

Kamayan Feast is $36 per person. Please check out our website for food included. 24 hours notice .

Hi, it's my birthday next Thursday and it will just me and my best friend going to dinner as the bigger celebrations are on different nights. I am Filipina American and have always wanted to have the kamayan experience. Can we do it with just two?

We can accommodate but may not be able to give ceviche and pancit. Please text me directly at 7084314512for faster reply

Hello, We are planning to have a kamayan style lunch at Kubo. What is the per head charge and what food is included?

Can you text me instead, I can’t attach a picture message here. 7084314512

How much is the boodle boddle and is it worth it?

$36 per person. It has a lot of variety of food. For the location where it’s at, it is worth it !

Do they have vegetarian and vegan options? I want my family to enjoy Filipino food but like most Eastern cuisine culturally there's animal products and most of my family is vegetarian or vegan.

We can make some items vegetarian and vegan but we don’t have a lot of options. We can make a couple of the pasta vegetarian and we can make some stir fried veggies for the vegan. We have veggie eggrolls for vegetarian.

Is the place large enough to host a party of 20 people?

Yes, they have a nice patio that can easily hold 20-30 people.

Our server was excellent--friendly and attentive--and both the owner and a manager stopped by during the evening to check in, which was appreciated. Felix has an extensive cocktail menu, and servers were busy delivering trays of beautiful drinks throughout the night. I ordered the Windy City Sunset mocktail, while my husband chose the Smokey Old Fashioned. Both were very good. The food, however, was more of a mixed bag. We started with the meatballs for the table; unfortunately, they were overcooked and hard, and even the marinara sauce couldn't save them from being dry and unappetizing. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, which was delicious and generously sized--easily enough for two meals. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan with a side of pasta and found the chicken somewhat dry. Our friends ordered a pasta dish to share, though they didn't eat much of it while tending to their very well-behaved six-month-old. While the bar and dining room are attractive, the bathroom was a major disappointment--dirty and unkempt, especially considering it was early in the evening (around 6 p.m.), not late enough to excuse the condition. The owners and staff are genuinely kind, and the menu shows a lot of promise. At the moment, though, the food doesn't quite live up to what they're serving at Bites. I hope Felix can work out some of the inconsistencies and find success--it certainly has the potential. I would like to give Felix 3.5-stars, but Yelp does not accommodate this option.

Especially not a good dinner option despite being excited for it for our Valentine's Day dinner. Food- really liked Caesar salad and Mac n cheese. However, this is a steak house. We ordered ribeye in medium and NY strip in medium rare. However, ribeye was medium rare and ny strip was cooked medium well. I considered telling our waiter but he never appeared at our table to ask about how our food was. He showed up half an hour later to ask if we wanted dessert. I didn't eat my ny strip because it was so dry and my husband had a few bites. Service- as mentioned above, the server barely showed up. Also our food arrived later than everyone next to us. The couple next to us got sat down after we put in our entree order and get they received their entree before we did. No apologies or context given on the delay. Also, I know they offer half orders for certain dishes like salad for takeouts and deliveries and saw older TikTok videos that mentioned getting half portions too. We asked if they do half portions so we can try more items in the menu, we simply got a "NO" without any kindness or explanation given. It was said as if we were asking them something stupid. Ambiance- I think the bar area is nice looking, but we were sat in the basement. It was crammed, the tables were small, and because it was a small room, you can really hear other tables conversations. For casual restaurants I don't mind that type of ambiance but if we are dropping more than $300 for 2 of us, I am going to compare it to comparable places in that price range: Bavettes, Gibsons, maple and ash, swift and sons, Alston, etc. this is significantly lacking compared to all of those "nice steakhouses". Theres not even a coat check. Also our leftover was packed in a cheap black plastic bag. Once again, not matching with the price point. We are locals and were very excited to try this place not far from us, but sadly, it was a truly disappointing experience and if anyone asked me if I'd recommend this place, I would say look elsewhere.

One bowl of the Basmati Rice was plenty for two...at least these two. I decided I wanted to try something different. We have had Momo before, but nothing like Chicken Momo Chili Fry (steamed dumplings of minced chicken seasoned with nepalese spices and herbs | fried | sauteed with green chili, bell peppers, onions, ginger and spicy garlic-chili paste). What an amazing dish! I'm not a huge fan of super spicy food, but the Chicken Momo Chili Fry was outstanding. The spiciness was spicy flavor, not just heat. They were delicious. And the veggies (green peppers and onions) were so tender and flavorful. If you are a fan of spicy then you need to try this dish. You will not be disappointed. Keeping with the 'trying new things' theme, I ordered Gorkhali Khasi (chunks of bone-in goat meat stewed in flavourful nepalese spices | a delicious spice forward sauce with tomatoes, onions and nepalese spices) with a side of Basmati Rice. The dish was very tasty, but the bone-in goat was a lot of work. Once off the bone (though I still ended up with bones in my mouth, which was nerve wracking) some of the pieces were tender and delicious. Other pieces were a bit gristly. Since the flavor was great, when we return I will likely order this dish with chicken. Mark ordered Chicken Tikka Masala (spice-marinated diced boneless white meat chicken cooked to perfection in tandoor | simmered in rich creamy tomato sauce). He raved about it! When he was finished it looked as if he has licked his bowl. In fact, he used some naan (we ordered Garlic Naan) to get every last drop of the sauce out of the bowl. The Garlic Naan was good, but I must have been full. I didn't finish one piece. There were four in a serving. I had to take a picture of the silver and gold wear. So very fancy, but a bit over the top. The plates were beautiful and were warm when they were brought to the table. We had a delightful meal. Oh... don't know if it is always like this, but we were there well over an hour. There was no rush whatsoever. Next time we are in town staying at City Suites, we will definitely return to Cumin!

In an area packed with casual food spots, Figo is spicing things up! The staff was super attentive and kind, checking on us frequently. My friend and I stopped by for happy hour, and this should absolutely make it onto the list of the best in town. They have delicious wine, cocktails, and bites for nearly half of the regular price. I opted for the happy hour prosecco to drink, which was light-bodied and not too sweet. We split the meatballs and dates for bites and both were outstanding. I was super impressed with how tender the meatballs were, and they did not skimp on the flavorful marinara and cheese! The dates, which were topped with a white wine cheese sauce, were mouth-wateringly delicious and a must order. There was also complimentary focaccia with olive oil, which was greatly appreciated. With sea salt on top and a crispy exterior, I could easily have eaten a whole loaf. The only note I have is that the portions are small, so if you don't come during happy hour the prices are a bit steep for what you get. Will 100% be back soon to try more of the menu and highly recommend making the trek over here!

However, the bartender was not very nice, and we saw her stick her hand in someone's glass to get something out before serving it... Other than that though the hh glass of red, complementary bread with olive oil, and hh Brussels were all great!

We visited during Restaurant Week, so it may be a better experience during regular service times…read more Food: The ingredients seemed fresh and good quality, and the base flavors were promising. However, every dish was far too salty for all of us, especially the skate wing which we were here for, and we couldn't finish most of the food -- which felt like a real shame given the quality of the ingredients. Our fav is the mini Spanish tortilla, might come back just for that. Service: We arrived within the 10-minute grace period despite heavy snow, and finish the first two courses super quick, but still waited a long time for the main course. By the time it arrived, we had only about 15 minutes left for both the main dish and dessert. Which is another reason we can hardly enjoy and finish the meal. The server tried to hurry us along in a polite way, but also overlooked us at least three times when we asked for water -- even when we called out as he walked by and wasn't rushing. Ambiance: The space is very small and cozy -- one table for four, four tables for two, plus a few bar seats -- but this made the overall dining experience feel rushed and quite loud, which made it harder to relax and enjoy the meal.

We've even gone here twice in a week, we love it THAT much. Small, intimate, cozy, welcoming. Great service, great food, great cocktails & wine list. We shared marinated olives & almonds. Couldn't decide between Boquerones & Anchovies, so the server suggested two of each rather than 4 of one that comes in an order--excellent solution! Shared the Croquetas which were delicious! Crispy on the outside, moist & delicious on the inside. One of the specials that day was Dover Sole with lemon & capers, very generous 10 or 12 oz serving, 4 fillets, which was delicious--crispy on the edges. And Wednesday is half off a bottle of wine night!
