I have a mac book pro that stopped working last year. I have been looking for a cheaper place to fix my laptop. I went to couple of laptop repairs and the diagnostic is the logic board and it will cost me around 700 dollars. For that price might as well buy a used mac book pro. So i was looking in craigslist and stumble on KT Electronic Repair. I immediately called them and they said they will take a look at my laptop. I went to their old store at Story Road and give them my laptop, i got a call in the afternoon and they told me that they can fix it for $240.00. WOW! ... so... i told them to go ahead and fix it. After 4 days, KT called me and told me the good news that my laptop is fix. I picked it up at their new store at Alum Rock Rd which is more spacious and better parking. These guys rock. My Xbox 360 had died with an E 73 error code. I took it in on a Saturday and asked for the $70 repair with the $15 one hour rush service. Came back an hour later and my Xbox was back to life. It actually seems to be running better (quieter) than before. Great service. I could not be more pleased. KT definitely beats the mail in prices from third parties or from Microsoft direct for out of warranty replacements. KT Electronics is the best place for any repair. Virus removal is only $50 compared the the geek squad which charges around $300. I live 30 miles away from their shop but I always make the trip because there work and customer service is second to none. I first started going to Khuong about 7 years ago. Between my own stuff and friends and family I have taken over 50 devices, including desktops, laptops, ps3, Xbox 360, IPods, ITouch and even a DVD Recorder which he doesn't really work on and he fixed it. My friends and family always come to me because I have taken everything and have always gotten it fixed at KT Electronics. Khuong really takes pride in his business and does anything he can to leave the customer satisfied. Don't believe these other negative reviews without trying it out for yourself. My Mac Book Pro 13 inch suffered severe water damage and I thought it was too far gone to repair. KT repaired it in one day, it required logic board repair and a new keyboard. It worked beautifully but after a week the wifi and blue tooth became intermittent. I returned to KT with it and he cheerfully inspected it and found the cable connection for the wifi/bluetooth module needed a little cleaning and secured it so it should never give me the problem again. I understand that with water damaged equipment sometimes things like this can happen and it is very hard to discover all problems especially when it works perfectly when I pick it up. I brought my sons xbox because it was not reading the games. they diagnose the problem was the laser and need to be clean up. I agreed to it was quick repair paid went home and the problem was not fix. I call back right way I told them that the problem was not fix, they told me they need a few days to work on it. I brought back next day it been 2 weeks and don't get a strait answer. I call him today, he said he needs a password to read the boxes. I ask him, do you check your work when you are done, answer: sometimes I have a lot work. how did you diagnose the problem I the 1st place if the xbox had a passcode. answer: you brouth back with a password, it reads movies. Then it piss me off, I brought the xbox because it cant read the games not the movies. after a long conversation, Tech Con ask me what do you to do? my answer simple fixed or refund my money. Then he transfer me with another tech juan, just in case I need a Spanish speaker, Juan to tell me that he will only refund half of the money because he work on it. They contacted me within a couple days stating that all repairs have been made, but that the mother board was 'acting up' and they recommended it to be replaced as well. Brought my nephew's MacBook Pro in because there was something wrong with the video while it was booting, and it would not boot all the way. Once I showed him this in person, he already knew there were only 2 options: First Option was to just fix the screen and boot issue, but there was a bigger problem that could arise later on. Second Option was to change out the mother board. I was given the 2 prices for each option to decide on. I decided on the Second Option, and was told it would be fixed and ready for pick up the next day. They did not disappoint. I received a call to come pick it up, and when I booted the laptop, the screen issue was gone, and it booted all the way. Feels like a brand new laptop. So I bought two things, a micro USB, and a pair of "Apple" earpods. The cable was six, and the earphones was ten. A total of $16 which isn't a bad deal at all. Brought my MacBook in for a motherboard repair, within same month motherboard was having issues again, brought it back in hopes of getting my money back but they said they could only repair it again. I was fine with that, but the guy who helped me had very poor customer service skills. He was rude about the whole transaction and I left feeling unsettled about this place. Prior to this I dealt with the owner who seems like great guy, but the lack of positive customer service when he's not around really brings this place down. Would give three stars, but the fact that I paid $180 to get a repair done that only lasted a week at most and that the customer service is hit or miss I have to give a 1 star. Good luck to all my fellow apple owners out there. If you need to get your motherboard repaired this may or may not be the place for you. read more

I highly recommend this repair shop! The staff is very friendly and helpful. I was very pleased with their repairs and they give you a three month warranty on all repairs and will even bend the rules if the repair is defective after the three months (usually within reason like 1 or 2 months) which is really nice of them! I came in for several different repairs from laptops that do not power on to a missing key. They are very reasonably price and will quote you fairly quickly. I had a repair that took a while as the parts that came in with both defective, the store offered me a loaner if needed. They will tell you within roughly 24 hours what is wrong with the laptop however if they take a little longer just know they are doing everything they can to make the repair happen! Also they really try and give you a good deal. If there is a way for them to save you money like my screen was starting to lose the front layer. They offered me money for my defective screen and use that money towards my replacement. I again recommend this place and will be coming back for future repairs! read more

They kept my laptop for almost a month telling me it would be fixed in one week without calling me ONCE to tell me that they had ordered the wrong part. In fact, I called them at least four times and I was informed that a technician would call me back, but not one of those times did a tech call me back. ON TOP OF THIS, my webcam doesn't even work anymore so they did a shoddy job putting my new screen in. It's been months since this repair has taken place and I am still upset. I've been waiting to write a review once my head cooled off to be fair to their store, but I think that kind of behavior is beyond unacceptable and unprofessional especially since I needed my laptop for work. A friend of mine offered to give me his PS3 if I could fix it before I went back to college in a few months so he could grab his data off the hard drive. Personally, I've fixed PS3s before while in college but I came home to do an internship and without the equipment in the college lab (I am a senior doing Computer Science/ Electrical Engineering double major in so cal) it would be difficult for me to properly diagnose and fix the PS3 I am currently in possession of. After looking around on craigslist, yelp and google search, this place seemed to be the highest rated and they offered free diagnosis. They made valid points: they supposedly have tons of experience and a store front from all the good past work. Makes sense. I figure if it's not much more expensive than doing it myself it would make sense to just bring it in so my friend can have his data. When I arrived on scene I will admit the reviews of being messy behind the counter is true. They have a lot of computer towers behind the counter and loose parts around and people eating around the computers. Not the way I like to work because occasionally you could mix something up unintentionally like previous posters have stated. When I asked for my diagnostic, an attendant tried to plug it in to the television next to the desk and fumbled with it for a few minutes until a second attendant came to assist. That surprised me a little, I understand attendants do not know all consoles but it should be pretty self explanatory these days. After seeing a blinking red light she said it was Yellow Light of Death syndrome and I would need to pay $120 to fix. I asked if that is a guaranteed price, she said unless they find other stuff wrong with it. I asked if they could do some testing to find if there is something else wrong instead so I could have an accurate quote before I paid $120 for possibly not fixing the issue if they are wrong. (I know the diagnostic is incorrect since the light is blinking red not yellow which is because I took the hard drive out). A third attendant arrived saying it could be YLOD from power supply but they would need to fix it before they knew if it was the issue. Now, that is simply incorrect. Any computer or console repair store should have a PSU tester. It costs around 5 bucks to purchase and really, they should have one. It saves the customers hundreds of dollars especially if the issue is not the PSU (which I know it is not for this case, the warning sequence is different). I have a feeling might be either an issue of reflowing the processor which only costs about 20 cents in solder and could take maybe half an hour or less to fix or perhaps there might be an issue with the blu ray drive. Those are the most common issues with first generation PS3s and if I had a heat gun and a digital tester I would diagnose and fix myself. The only part that might be broken would be the lens on the blu ray which happens to break a lot on first gens over time. Again, I haven't used this PS3 since I got it so I don't know what exactly is the issue since I don't have the proper tools. The shop does not seem to have these common tools that most pc shops have which makes me think the quote of "extensive diagnostic" is worth it. Without these basic tools it could take a while to figure out so I can see it being worth it to them to charge $60 in labor but as a customer, it's simply not worth it. To compare, Sony will replace your PS3 with another working refurbish for about half the cost of a retail one ($150). Saying $60 for a diagnostic and having the fix be between $120 to $180 doesn't make sense. Would be faster and safer to have Sony do it for a locked in price rather than try to save $30 bucks risking paying an extra $30 for a technician that isn't officially trained for PS3 repair. I wouldn't even bother posting a review except a friend of mine convinced me I should because he was bothered by the comment on craigslist about being more of an expert than other tech gurus at this. I think for me its more about misleading. The free diagnostic is not a diagnostic at all. It's turning it on and a shot in the dark. The real diagnostic charge is $60 and they do not tell you how long until you will receive your item back, at which you may pay other charges if they fix something along the way. That's too risky for me. Also when I asked for a breakdown of possible fees, they said its $60+parts but they explained re-soldering costs 120 which would me solder costs $60. At any local Fry's you can buy an entire spindle of solder for around two or three bucks. I realize a lot of estimates are just that and soldering is considered more advanced than the typical user but too many holes in the explanation for me. I realize sometimes small businesses need to charge a little to stay more in business but at least be honest about it. read more

Took my PS3 because it would no longer turn on. I've had it for about 5 years and took really good care of it, so I really wanted it to be functional again. After about a week of my console being at their store, I gave them a call to check in. I was told that the guys had figured out that it wasn't repairable because something was wrong with the motherboard. They offered to exchange my PS3 for a refurbished one for an additional fee, which was reasonable. I used the $10 for $20 voucher, which brought my total to &10 less...YAY! They honored it with no issues. Everyone was really nice and accommodating when the transaction was made. Minus 1 star for the lack of communication. I dropped off the console on a Thursday and promised to hear from then 1-2 days later. Called Saturday before closing to find out they still hadn't figured out the problem so they needed more time. No problem, just wish they would have called me since I was expecting to have it home by then. 5 days later I called once again, due to the lack of cummunication. I was told they figured out it wasn't repairable so other arrangements had to be made. I informed the person over the phone I would be in the next day in the afternoon. When I arrived the gentleman at the front desk was surprised to see me and had no idea of the status of my PS3 nor the arrangements that were made over the phone the day before. He scrambled BUT made magic happen within minutes. Overall, great business, just please please please work on your communication with customers and each other. read more

Girlfriend and her mother took their laptops to get the screen hinges repaired. They gave them very inaccurate finish estimates, then told them to pick it up at one time to have them return empty handed. When they finally did get their laptops back, my girlfriends had no OS on the system. They knew of this before they gave her back the laptop but my girlfriend thought it was a simple factory restore and took it. On her way home she realized that this is their responsibility to fix and spoke to some one that said they will take care of it and to bring it back. When she did arrive the person that helped her refused to fix it unless she paid for the service when the person on the phone told her it would be free. My girlfriend then got in a heated argument with him as he tried to place the blame on her or a hardware failure. Who treats customers like this. It was working fine, except the hinges, when she brought it in and was returned with a system failure??? She left feed up with it going nowhere. Now this is where I come in. I'm not a computer wiz, but I am smarter then the clowns here. I take a look at it and look in the BIOS and see that someone had messed with the boot settings. I return it to the original settings and reboot. BAM, it starts right up normally as if nothing had happened. WHY WOULD THEY NEED TO GET INTO THE BIOS WHEN DOING AN EXTERNAL REPAIR!!! I feel like they were trying to scam them to return their laptops for additional repairs. Something else was off on both my girlfriends laptop and her mother's. Web pages were not loading right. They had SQL errors. Again, WHY WERE THEY MESSING WITH THE LAPTOPS OUTSIDE OF WHAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED!!! A factory restore and it is working fine. My advice is to find someone in your life with a decent amount of computer knowledge or who knows how to Google problems before trusting this place. read more

Very bad experience as a first-time customer. Never going there again! Wanted to get our MacBookPro battery replaced and called them up for a quote. They asked for all the details of my MacBook (model, year, etc), I liked their quote and drove to their place. A guy at the front desk promptly helped us get the invoice printed and he took my laptop to their workstation and said it would be a 10-minute wait. After 30 mins, another guy walks in from their workstation and says the quote was wrong and that the replacement would cost $50 bucks more than what was "printed" on the invoice/receipt. I did not accept the offer and asked him to give my MacBook back. This was taking longer than expected and so I asked a guy at the front desk to make sure he is not replacing the battery. Apparently, the battery was already replaced and they were then reverting to my original battery. read more

Sometime last year, my Macbook Pro was lagging and was working at an incredibly slow speed. It was impossible to even use it. In fact, I just stashed it away somewhere in my room and didn't bother using it for months because it was just hopeless. Once school began approaching, I was desperate to have it fixed as soon as possible. I contacted Khuong and he immediately responded to me and told me to bring my laptop in for repair. Within minutes after dropping my laptop off, he told me exactly what the problem was, how they would have to repair it, and how much it would cost me. I have been coming here for a couple of years now and they never disappoint. Given that I am so clumsy I've had to get a few repairs, first was a cracked iPhone screen which they replaced I also came back when my iPhone home button came off and when I spilled water on my MacBook Pro I thought it was fried but they were able to repair that and it works just like it was before. This is also a good place to buy or sell electronics both my dad and aunt have purchased lap tops from here that have last a long time and I've sold them my old iPad and phones. My most recent visit was to pick up a new MacBook charger and they do actually give warranties on the products. Guy at the counter said it would be a few days till I could get the status of my comp. Well long story short. The technician diagnosed it and told me it was just the graphics card and fan and HD! I was like "WOW" thats it? I thought it was going to cost alot.. Especially getting a quote from them geniuses ..... Well they fixed it in due time.. And overall I'm satisfied with the CUSTOMER SERVICE and I SAVED $$$... If I would to choose a place that could fix electronics devices, computers and anything electronic related.. Generally, I only leave reviews if somebody has either done an outstanding job or really pissed me off. Of that, the latter pops up far more often. This is one of those cases. I had several Apple complete systems that needed component-level repair (logic board chips redone, etc). These guys took them all in and kept them for several weeks. After taking way more time than initially promised they called me back and told me they can't repair any of them at all. It took them several weeks to figure that out. It was surprising too because all but one of those systems were complete, untouched and quite repairable by the right person. When I went to pick my systems up they took a good hour to give them back while I was waiting. Of course when I opened them up at home I realized that lovely technicians from KT Repair used my systems as parts machines. They kept most of the internal and external screws, some hinges and other misc stuff. It took several calls to the boss with very firm tone of voice to convince them to send me back some screws, which they finally did. Alas, few other parts are still missing. After I took a few of these systems to another place which appears to actually be ABLE to do component-level repair (as opposed to just claiming they are) I was told that several chips on the logic boards were missing. That made sense because one of the systems which had a problem with a specific circuit before but booted ok stopped running altogether after its KT visit. Clearly they were expecting for me to sell them these systems at a lowball price after they used them for parts and then pronounced them unrepairable. So if you have a something minor like a Windows reinstall or small upgrade they maybe adequate. But if you have component-level repair or anything serious - do yourself a favor and stay away. read more
