Met up with a friend for a late brunch and I spied the quiche and custard doughnut at first glance. I stuck to my intuition and I was glad I made great choices. We split both to try both savory and sweet options. The slice of quiche is $6 and it's a generous sized piece. Apparently, it's popular because another patron came in and ordered two to go. The spinach quiche was delicious with a flaky crust which wasn't too thick and the egg was fluffy, not dense. I can see why this is a popular item. The custard doughnut was so good too! It wasn't too sweet or greasy and had just the right amount of custard which also wasn't too sweet either which I personally prefer. The doughnut texture itself was more al dente with just a little denser texture than a typical soft yeast doughnut. The only gluten-free option was a granola bar. I tried the coffee black and it was really good with no bitter aftertaste. Service was good, and just a slight cultural barrier but not enough to deter me from coming back. The decor was tasteful, cozy with both sofa and benches with cushions. I loved the palm leaves wall paper! We sat outside which only has two tables. It was a very pleasant day. Parking is free as Krust is located in a mini strip mall with a parking lot rather than metered street parking. You might miss this place as the sign is tiny and quite utilitarian. Will order pick up online for convenience. The website usually is really great about updating new menu items, order options, and changes in hours. Here's a list of some of the food I've tried and my personal rating. 1. Avocado toast: 4; this is one of the better avocado toasts out there. Usually when I've gotten this at other restaurants, it's usually pretty bland. The avocado is lightly salted. There is sweetness from the balsamic and tanginess from the tomatoes. The toast itself tastes pretty good as well. 2. Spinach onion Quiche: 2.5; needs more salt 3. Custard donut: 4; the custard is very yummy! get this and eat it fresh! 4. Banana bread: 2.5; a bit too sweet. had a bit of a strange aftertaste. Not sure if it had something to do with the banana: 5. Coffee bread: 3 6. Blueberry muffin: 3 7. Ham and cheese croissant: 3.5; Pretty good. Quite a bit of ham and cheese for the size of the bread 8. Cheese pocket: 4; yum. Should've gotten 2 9. Menemen: 3.5; Tomato stew has nice spice but a bit too oily for me. 10. Scones: Have had the berry, honey cinnamon, and bacon chive. All good. Very disappointed today . Loved getting the bacon egg and cheese on croissant or sour dough. Not the same. The egg was a defrosted hockey puck. What happened to the fresh egg and quality cheese. A small bakery that serves some hip breakfast menu and quality baked goods. Since it was a weekday, it was not that crowded. Inside was rather warm so we decided to stay outside to feel the ocean breeze. The spinach quiche was melting and the flaky crust was yummy! The donut was airy but the filling portion was a bit conservative. It's nice to come here to hang out with a small group or take out your favorites. You probably wouldn't find this place just from the signs. It's located in a small strip mall and their sign above the store is hard to see. I totally missed the place when trying to park! It's not hard to park actually, just make sure to slow down enough to turn right into the parking lot. I was excited so tried to find out more about what they offer but I did feel the language barrier. What a wonderful way to start a weekend coming here! I love that there's outdoor and indoor seating. The indoor seating is a separate room from where you order (next door). Ordered a cinnamon honey scone and latte. Both were delicious! Especially if you ask for the scone to be warmed. Also ordered the hot turkey croissant. I waited behind two guys for 10 minutes watching the workers stroll around as if the shop were empty. I actually walked out when it appeared I wasn't worthy of their attention. Good for me though, all that waiting let me double think this place - it's actually pricey! I didn't have to worry about rationalizing paying 6 bucks for two miniature "empanadas." Let me tell you, I can't stop thinking about this place. I'm so surprised I didn't write a review immediately, because I liked it so much. It's a tiny, hole-in-the-wall cafe, but it's so cute and comfy inside. The baked goods all looked so scrumptious and you could tell they press legit coffee. I ordered the Menemen and it was like a warm hug with every bite. I was coming out of a cold and this tomato stew with egg was a blessing from above. The baguette was perfectly crispy and I wanted more of it. I will say, it's a very small portion and I could not wait to finish it. After my meal, I also ordered an almond croissant and a cute, string wrapped package of cookies for my friend. She loved them! The walls have cute murals and a nice bench with pillows. I think it's an instagrammer's dream. Prfect little coffee shop that's secluded but has nice aesthetic. I want to come back to try the Baguette that comes with brie and honey. Krust is my favorite bakery/cafe in all of Southern California. I first came across Krust via Yelp and had no idea that the small strip mall on PCH housed such an AMAZING bakery. Their custard donuts are out of this world. I grew up in Tokyo with TONS of awesome bakeries within walking distance and these are on par with some of the best pastries I've ever had. The custard filling is seriously phenomenal. I could eat it all freaking day. Their pies are also DELICIOUS. When we go to Krust, my husband wants a pie no matter what time of day it is. The ham and cheese croissant is also realllly good. Super flaky, buttery croissants filled with a good portion of ham and cheese. I miss their ham and cheese rolls which were also soooo good. On the weekends they have waffles served with macerated strawberries, creme fraiche, nutella and maple syrup. SO GOOD! Everything I've ever gotten here is just phenomenal. Love the no frills menu...consisting of 4-5 items. Also daily there are lots of fresh pastries. Drip coffee was not great, per husband. Everything else we had was stellar. The baguette paired with honey, butter, jam and brie was very European and perfect. We had a croissant sandwich that had cheese, arugula, fig jam and prosciutto... The waffle was not crispy but delicious all the same, served with fruit, marscapone, syrup and Nutella on the side... Two waffles per serving. Service was fast and friendly. One of my favorite coffee shops in the area. I'm here frequently on Saturday mornings, just before I start my jog at the Esplanade. I discovered this coffee shop because it's in the same plaza as my PT clinic. The coffee and pastries are top notch here. My favorite pastries are: custard donut (they do custard cream so well!), chocolate croissant. I've tried the butter croissant as well, and while it was soft and delicious, I wish the outside was just a bit crispier. They have savory items too. I like the bulgogi sandwich; the bulgogi is well marinated and the crispy baguette is perfect, like a delicious cheese steak sandwich. I've ordered the brie and prosciutto, which I did not like because it didn't feel special; it felt like a just a bunch of ingredients put on top of each other. The customer service is fantastic. From the receptionist to the barista making your drink. It always feels like you are supporting a truly local, community-based business. I'm still on my way to becoming a regular, hopefully at some point they'll know my name and my usual order! Location can't be beat, it's just a few blocks from the beach. Parking is easy. read more

This is an early review but I've been impressed with what I've experienced so far. The space is comfortable and the ambience is very much to my liking. The waffle I ordered was delightful, the strawberries (often the weakest link of many a waffle order) were surprisingly enjoyable and paired well with what I thought was just the right amount of mascapone. So much potential, but ultimately what a letdown! With a free Saturday afternoon, I decided to do a bit exploring and try a new coffee shop in Redondo Beach. Krust kept popping up on my searches, so I decided to give it a shot! The storefront is located on PCH with a large parking lot and ample spaces. The front of the store and frankly the store itself looks like it's been under construction... just feels a tad unfinished. When I asked when the store opened, the staff member said it's been open for over a year! I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and I ordered a cappuccino. I was also going to consider indulging in a pastry, but there were slim pickings... I arrived around 2:30PM and it seemed like all the good options were swiped up earlier in the day. In any case, I settled in with my fresh brewed cappuccino and took out my laptop. When I asked for the WIFI and password (assuming that in this day and age WIFI was a given), the staff member first said there was no WIFI... and then she corrected herself saying, "Well there is, but I don't know the password, sorry!" I looked at her in disbelief... and sat back down Now twiddling my thumbs, unable to do my work that I had planned on doing, I sipped my cappuccino... and soon realized that I had 10 minutes to finish my drink before the store closed at 3PM! Is it just me, or is that incredibly early?! The hours are as follows: Mon: Closed Tues-Sat: 7AM - 3PM Sun: 8AM - 1PM I chugged my drink, and went on my way. Overall, a very lackluster experience if there ever was one.... Pros: Location, parking, cute/ comfy hipster atmosphere (it has a lot of potential!), and pretty good coffee, I liked the cinnamon and cocoa available to add to my coffee Cons: Unfinished/ under construction, incredibly limited hours, sparse food options, unknowledgeable staff, and there may or may not be WIFI? that's still unclear to me! Oh and the credit card machine works on and off per the staff member. I lucked out because it worked for me. yeesh! I don't think I'll be revisiting this place any time soon :( read more

Love this cafe! As a first time customer walking into this shop, my eyes immediately salivated over their big selection of pastries (lined up along the counter)!! Everything I've ordered were delicious: avocado toast, warm breakfast croissant sandwich (ham, egg, & cheese), & the strawberry & cream croissant (with lightened pastry cream). Honestly, their strawberry & cream croissant is the best I've had in SoCal. Super light golden crispy croissant filled with fresh sweet strawberries & the right amount of lightly sweetened pastry cream filling. I wouldn't mind a bit more cream filling but that's my personal preference. I will definitely be back to try their other breads & pastries! ... returned an hour later & picked up their lemon glazed lightened pastry cream filled donuts, almond croissant, & another strawberry & cream croissant! Updated my review because they will occasionally sell burnt pastries and bread which should never have made their way to the display case. I was disappointed to find the pasties I bought were burnt on the bottom after I came home. One time I noticed the lady who worked there gave me an overbaked baguette that was bordering on burnt. I asked her to give me another one which looked normal. She did, but not without making me feel like a nuisance for even asking. Maybe don't try to sell items that should've been thrown away in the first place? Please do a better job with quality control. read more

What a charming find in the South Bay Area. This place is a hidden gem tucked away in the corner of a plaza. They have a sizable selection of baked goods and some fantastic specialty items. I ordered the baguette with Brie and jam/honey thinking that it would be a breakfast sandwich and was slightly disappointed it was just a large baguette with small piece of Brie and side of jam. The avocado toast was very good and the waffles with berries were delicious. I got to try a bite of the banana bread which was bomb. So aside from my order everything else was fantastic. I would surely be back again to try more after my low carb New Years resolution inevitably fails. read more

This place is incredible and what an adorable find along PCH for us after a morning of hiking. It really feels like they've developed a loyal community following and I felt like we truly discovered a hidden gem. The service was so attentive, and we got to sit in the tables out front with our pup. Moving on to the food - oh my goodness. The pastries are made with such precision and reminiscent of the smells and taste of a patisserie in France with an inventive twist. They also had menemen (like a Turkish shakshouka) that I fell in love with in Istanbul and haven't found much of since that was executed really well. Great little local coffee shop in the South Bay. It's a little hidden, but you'll be glad you found it. The interior is cozy and a good place to sit and enjoy your drink and food. My vanilla chai latte was just the right amount sweet and the avocado toast was a good portion for the price -- two slices of bread and a whole avocado! I think some acidity from some lemon juice was the only thing missing on the toast. Their pastry case looks very tempering, however the vegan options in this department are limited, if any. They do offer milk alternatives (almond, soy, and coconut) for their drinks. The avocado toast can be made vegan by omitting the parmesan. Overall, I'm glad I found this spot and will put it into my South Bay coffee shop rotation. read more
