I swear the hot light has a magnetic pull. I mean, come on. Even with all of the delicious local donut shops popping up in RVA, Krispy Kreme is still holding its own. It's like a stick in the mud... This Broad Street staple ain't going nowhere anytime soon! I actually hadn't been here in a long time (diets n things), so when the boyfriend made a surprise right turn into the parking lot the other day after dinner I got so excited! I was surprised to see so many interesting flavors. I didn't remember Krispy Kreme being hip to the new crazy flavored donuts craze. I'm a plain Jane when it comes to donuts, though. Give me a glaze or chocolate icing with sprinkles donut and a glass of milk and I'm good. There was a bit of a wait because obviously all of Richmond needs to satisfy their donut cravings at 9pm. You come here for the doughnuts. I feel like that's kind of a 'duh' comment, but this is not the place for excellent customer service, or great coffee. Doughnuts is what Krispy Kreme does exceedingly well, and oh boy do they. When the "Hot Now" sign is lit, GET A GLAZED DOUGHNUT. Its sugary warmth will quite literally melt in your mouth and will have you exclaiming, "how do they do it?!" The other doughnuts are equally delicious; they are all freshly made each day and have that same sugary fried loveliness. I must stress the magic of that "hot now" glazed doughnut though. Krispy Kreme doughnut maniacs and die hard fans rave about these wheat donuts (the original) all over the nation. I can understand their excitement and the warmth of their love especially when the HOT donuts sign comes on. You can see them salivating from miles away. This location is no exception and packs the place on most days. This location as great with large windows on the exterior walls and even larger windows next to the donuts conveyor belt area. :-) I am a well balanced in my approach to food that entails me being a professional cook with many years experience in many types of cuisines from Latin America, Greek, Italian, and many more. Hot chocolate was satisfactory but not Starbucks quality according to my wife. It's a bit pricey to not be top quality (2.49 per cup). Still, my coffee was as usual, smooth and piping hot and worth the cost. It's their own "signature" branded Krispy Creme fresh brewed joe. This is a typical snowy night in Richmond, more promise than delivery, but we decided real late to come here just for the adventure. (It might be all the snow we drive in all winter.) I was disappointed the hot glazed donuts were not coming HOT off the rollers by the time we got here at 10:30 pm, but the two already made and the raspberry filled and FEATURED apple fritter donut were both scrumptilicious! So Krispy Kreme! I love the one in Maryland. I visited the Richmond Virginia location with my best friend Cindy. The staff here is horrific and know nothing about there promotions. Cindy got us gift cards and bonus cards since she knows we enjoy donuts. Well we tried to use them and looks like the staff here at the Richmond VA broad street location never gave her activated cards. Guess she's gonna have to call the bank have the payment stopped since the management had no clue how to fix there cards. We tried Duck Donuts right down the road. The staff was so much nicer and they where well trained and educated. I hope Broad Street gets it together or is able to better train there management and staff. read more

Having lived in the NE the last two years, It has been a welcomed sight to see a Krispy Kreme. Only get donuts when the "hot and ready" sign is glowing orange and green. The donuts are good when the sign is not lit, but it just won't be the same if they are not fresh. This store features the assembly line of how a donut is made. read more

This place is a hit or miss. Sometimes the hot donut sign is lit and they serve me cold donuts at the drive through. Also from time to time the person working at the drive through never seems enthusiastic no matter what time of day. The entrance and parking is only as good as the people who come here, which at times, has no one with any driving etiquette. Fri night 11:00 and the drive thru line is wrapped around the building and the wait is a good 15 minutes which is fine until you finally get to place your order and your told they only have three flavors, never mind the fact that the employee thinks it's funny! Would it not make sense to have an employee telling customers or at the very least put a sign up so that we don't sit and waste time and gas for nothing? I recently visited Krispy Kerme... typically they have the hot and ready doughnuts but, this visit that wasn't an option! Also, when I asked the associate when the next round would be coming they said, they couldn't tell me a time! As far as I'm concerned this is the Richmond Krispy Creme central location. If the light's are on, they're hot! We ordered a dozen donuts & I still consider the Original the best! A little coffee & even thought we tried a number of other excellent donuts....it's still the Original that serves my palette the best. It's actually rather neat to watch the preparation and flow of the donuts. It's a somewhat large restaurant and lots of people come through .....in other words, even at 9:30-10 PM they're busy. Very polite workers, even a taste or freebie may come your way. OK, who doesn't like donut holes? You'll get a cup for a very inexpensive price. It really is dangerous to have this so close to the Broad Street. Of course you can get doughnuts here, but they also have coffee and other things, but why would you dare get anything else but the classic glazed? I will say they have a very impressive area inside that shows you how these rings of fantastic flavor are made. Be sure to drive by when the sign glows - as that marks the fresh doughnuts are now right out of the oven.
