I had been hearing so much buzz around town about Cookie Chris, and with their new location off Mechanicsville Turnpike, I went in this evening with high expectations and a serious sweet tooth. Unfortunately, the service left me incredibly disappointed. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted rudely by the worker. While inside, we witnessed her having two other unpleasant interactions with other customers snapping, tapping her nails impatiently, and even aggressively pointing at where she wanted people to stand (causing confusion because her "right" and their "right" weren't the same). There was still plenty of time left before closing, so the rush and frustration didn't make sense. When it was finally our turn, I tried to order a sugar cookie. She snapped at me that they didn't have sugar cookies and pointed to the counter display with that evening's options. My friend and I both noticed the sign did clearly list sugar cookies. When I pointed this out, she became even more dismissive. Between two cookies and three scoops of ice cream, I ended up spending $26, which felt overpriced considering the attitude that came with it. Now for the positives: the shop itself is spotless very clean, and clearly well-kept. The aesthetics are bright, though I personally found them a bit overwhelming. Overall, while I wanted to love this Black-owned business that so many people recommended, the customer service completely ruined the experience. I happened upon this place as I was going to T-Mobile, which was nearby. Cookies are one of my favorite desserts so of course I had to look up this place to see if it was any good. When I saw that it was owned by a young, Black man, I KNEW I had to patronize this business since it was Juneteenth (I would've done it on any regular day, too). When I walked in, it smelled like heaven (aka fresh baked cookies). I ordered an ice cream cookie sandwich with the chocolate chip cookies and birthday cake ice cream. I also ordered a tres leche cookie. Each week, there is a new line up of cookies. They also had a cinnamon toast crunch cookie that looked pretty good, but buying anymore cookies would've put me in a cookie-coma. The ice cream was delicious! The tres leche cookie was really good. I enjoyed the chocolate chip cookies, but it was too sweet for me. I wasn't sure if they used milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet... I would cut back a little bit on the sugar or maybe sprinkle some salt on top to combat that sweetness. I would DEFINITELY return if I was in the RVA area. read more

The young lady was was working there, her customer service was 10/10! The cookies were okay. I do love a very soft cookie but this was a little too soft for my liking. You can order packs of cookies like a 4 pack or 12 pack.... But not a pack of 9 when there are 9 flavors of cookies.. that's crazy to me... But the place is very very cute! Might try them again.... A variety of cookies that change every Friday! Milkshake options to help wash down the delicious baked goods! A beautiful store located in shortpump with a gracious owner / operator! I got a strawberry shortcake cookie' which reminded me of a warm pop tart, but way better! I checked out the cutest cookie spot in Short Pump Cookie Chris and I was immediately obsessed. It's got such a cute vibe, and the smells? Incredible. Angela was there working and was very nice and friendly. She said I should try four different cookies and they were super sweet yet tasty. Still warm as well. And I risked my lactose tolerance for this amazing cookies and cream milkshake. Haha it was worth it! We tried the Short Pump location pretty soon after we tried the original in Williamsburg, which may have been to its detriment. We wanted to support this small business after hearing about its story and the expansion to Richmond. We were excited for the week's new flavors but ultimately found them to be lacking flavor and oomph. All the cookies were pretty hard too -- a contrast to Williamsburg. The most unique flavor was the strawberry. Sadly the cookies just weren't worth the $17 for a four pack. read more

I'm so grateful I found this spot on Yelp after a delicious dinner in Short Pump. My fiancé, neighbor, and I were craving something sweet. I found Cookie Chris on Yelp. It was super easy to get to and there was plenty of free parking right in front (it's located in a strip mall). Entering this charming shop was like stepping into cookie monster's dream. There were bright decorations everywhere. You're bound to capture a great Yelp picture here. There was plenty of seating available inside, but it seemed like most people got their orders to go that evening. Our friend is gluten-free and while they didn't offer any gluten-free cookies they did have ice cream which was nice. She seemed to enjoy her generous scoop. My fiancé and I got an order of four cookies and a small scoop of ice cream. I really enjoyed the birthday cake cookie. The chocolate chip and lemon ones were nice too. The cookies and cream ice cream was alright. Do know that they have huge cookies! I also really loved reading all about the owner's story. A year ago my brother, his girlfriend and I had gotten Cookie Chris and they were okay. Not that great but we loved supporting a small business. This year we went and we got cookies and I feel like they just aren't actually sweet or have much flavor. The location is very pretty and I love the story behind it. Parking lot grants easy access. The business itself is very bright, inviting, and clean! I've seen articles & posts about the 19 y.o. who owns this small, Black owned business and knew I had to try them out. So as I was heading to short pump I decided to stop in. Charity was working and did a great job explaining the weekly flavor rotations and sharing her recommendations. I opted for the 4 pack so we could try multiple flavors. I stopped in right at 6pm and when we tried the first cookie (twisted caramel chip) after dinner around 9:15 pm it wasn't hard. I ate a piece of it just like that and then heated the rest because I wanted to try it warm and 10/10. When I got a bite with the caramel and salt it was THEE perfect bite. I then went on to the oatmeal cream pie and although I wish it had a little more cream I liked the fact that the cookies were homemade and maybe I tasted a little ginger which I love. It didn't taste like the artificial creme pies. We'll be trying the other 2 cookies tomorrow because the cookies are larger than my palms lol. What took us so long to go get a taste of this goodness! OMG @itscookiechris 10/5 across the board! The vibe was cute, space was clean and welcoming. I adored the cookie wall! Customer service, it was one lovely and patient young lady who took orders and delivered them to each customer with accuracy. Even with a growing crowd she remained pleasant, professional to ensure each patron was served. She deserves a raise lol. There were customers in front of me who sampled their cookies and went right back to order more, lol yup that good. I ordered a single scoop of birthday cake ice cream (4.5/5 probably one of the best BC ice cream's I've ever tasted, Milán is a BC girlie and she was very impressed with the flavor and creaminess) and a single cookie the honeybun (5/5 gooey center crispy edges so so good). Ordered a birthday cookie cake online and followed their 2-hour pickup rule--gave 2.5 hours just to be safe. Showed up and it wasn't ready, was told to come back in an hour. The owners were rude and dismissive--no apology, no discount, just "wait or get a refund." They did offer delivery, but wouldn't even give me a minute to confirm since we were staying at a hotel. The cookies are delicious. Honey bun is my favorite. The store is clean, bright, and overall nice. My only gripe we just left there with about 20 people all MBEs and all upset when we asked for a bag to put our separate cookies in. My honey bun cookie didn't fit inside the bag and I believe the president of NMSDC of the VA district paid a pretty penny for the bags we finally received after pressing the issue. Please speak with you staff about taking care of the customer and getting bags that fit your inventory. Other than that, congrats on the business and we will continue to support!!! read more
