I'm really not happy with Krispy Kreme. First, Austin is the 11th largest city in the country but we only have 2 locations completely across town from each other. They have been my favorite donuts, but I may have to fight the long lines and switch to the hometown favorite, Round Rock Donuts. I used to drive past this KK often but moved away years ago, so I guess I'm the last to discover that they and the south location both discontinued my absolute favorite--maple iced. In the past when I ordered an assortment of donuts and added some maple iced for myself, guess whose donuts got eaten first? MINE. Thank goodness RR Donuts still has the good sense to carry maple iced. As I live kind of in-between RR and KK, my time, gas, and dollars will now go to RR, unless KK brings my favorite back. Oh, and secondly, I can't remember the last time I went to KK and the red "hot" sign was lit, so their donuts are now mostly cold and eventually have to be zapped in the microwave to soften up. Another thought: the stores employees try to tell you that the maple iced was a "special," which isn't true, and even if it were true, it's a fall flavor, so why not offer it now along with all those nasty pumpkin flavors? Just stopped in for National Coffee Day and had to review my experience. Although it was an incredibly brief interaction, the gentleman assisting me at the drive-through was absolutely the sweetest! Very friendly and personable and my wait time was basically non-existent. Now, I did not actually enter the building as I opted for the drive-through, but I was greeted promptly and efficiently. No complaints here - a very pleasant interaction! When I pulled up to the window, he already had my hot coffee with one cream ready to go so there wasn't really any wait time. He was so jovial and polite with such a great attitude and a happy smile. I rarely go out of my way for events like this, but I am very glad I did just so I can leave this review for Ernest. Mmm...stopped in here when the hot donuts sign was on and got my free donut! They are so much better when they are hot and fresh! This was the place which served us well on our mini trip to Austin, it was open late night when I was craving something sweet to eat and as well as on our trip back to Houston, we stopped on in for some soft donuts. Friendly staff, delicious soft sweet donuts that beats Shipley's and even Dunkin. It kinda reminds me of Danny's Donuts on Scarsdale, but a little bit better. As soon as I bit into these donuts, it reminded me of the time when Houston used to have Krispy Kreme, but now they only have KKD of course where the rich white people live..so far from me. My two favorites I instantly fell in love with were: Strawberry iced and lemon filled. Both of them together I can eat them everyday paired with daily intense workout. Strawberry Iced reminded me of Fruit loops cereal, but better and Lemon filled had me thinking of a Lemon Pudding cake without the tartness. Nicely run outlet of Krispy Kreme. Visited here for the first time late on a weekday evening and lucked out in walking in right as they were pulling glazed doughnuts off the line, so I got to eat one that was less than a minute old! For a foodie like me, this is a little bit of nirvana. I like KK's, though I find a lot of their offerings too sweet for my palate. However, they shine in terms of freshness and a lightness to their pastries. I tried their apple fritter, plain glazed, glazed cruller, chocolate iced w/kreme filling, and their limited edition cherry pie flavored doughnut. I enjoyed them all, but WOW, the fritter and the cherry pie flavor pastry were sweet enough to make me crave milk in a single bite! (Which may be more 'feature' than 'bug' to be fair.) I have to give this location props for their fast service and the nifty viewing setup. However, I came after sunset - and maybe some of the lights in the lot were out, but it's VERY dark in spots. (I think one other reviewer experienced the same thing I did.) It's enough to be a serious safety hazard! Pro Tip: In order to maximize your chances of getting a free pastry right off the line, obviously look for the 'Hot Doughnuts' sign to be lit. Walked into Krispy Kreme today and noticed a really strong rancid oil smell. It was less noticeable as we approached the counter but enough for me to decide not to order anything. How can you not love Krispy Kreme, famous for their simply delicious glazed donuts, one complimentary per customer in store if glazed donuts are being cooked at that time (their sign will be lit indicating they are hot). Currently it's 6-10am and 6-10pm. My favorite is the kreme filled chocolate glazed, the naughtiest of naughty pleasures. The kreme is like eating icing. I love also that Krispy Kreme always has a number of seasonal donuts some of which are pretty unusual (gingerbread glazed) or at the least, adorable. I have mixed feelings. The donuts are great! My problem is with a gray-haired Male employee with an attitude. He seemed impatient and put 1 dozen donuts in 2 six donut boxes. My main beef was he did not give me the 10% senior discount with my AARP card shown. I am 51 almost 52. I have been paying for this card for 2 years and I have not made my money back yet. Last time I came to this location was about a year ago and had no problems with the service or product I had purchased. Came here around 2 pm today and ordered 1/2 a dozen donuts (5 sprinkled donuts and 1 chocolate Creme filled). Customer service was fine considering I just through drive thru, after I had paid and went back home I peaked to see how the donuts looked and saw that they gave me the wrong Creme filled donut and one of the sprinkled donut looked crappy. It's a little smaller than an original donut too, which I appreciate to help keep the snack fewer calories. I think everyone should try these at least once! Chocolate cake and sourcream glazed are both delightful as well. On a day when I can really splurge on the calories, I'd like to try the different latte/cappuccino flavors. The kolaches are good and served all day as well; my favorite is ham and cheese, but a traditional sausage, cheese, and jalapeno is delicious as well. The bread is soft. I went to Krispy Kreme this morning to surprise my daughter for her birthday. I got a specialty box of Christmas donuts. I did get there shortly after the store opened, and was told there were no specialty boxes available, but was quickly told they DID have them. I was so happy but when I got home and the kids bit into them, they were so disappointed because the donuts were hard, dry and the filling looked old and discolored. I wanted to like this place as I grew up on Krispy Creme in Bama in the 80's and 90's. It felt like a McDonalds or something to me. The donut choices were about what you'd expect at H-E-B except with a few extremely sweet looking ones added. The coffee was mediocre, the donut was mediocre. Disappointing!!! When we called the outlet they told us that fresh original glaze would come out in 5-10 Mins. My wife and kid were really excited so we drove all the way from Round Rock to this location but when we reached there we were served "ice cold" tasteless original glazed donuts. We were told that there's something wrong with their equipments and they don't know when it will be fixed. I wish the staff was honest enough to inform us upfront and saved us time. Doughnuts, yes, I am doing this from memory, a long and short term memory. When I was a Kid I remember while in elementary school we had to go from house to house selling Krispy Kreme Donuts for 60 cents a dozen and I remember they seemed bigger than they do now. When I got to eat one I remember I thought they were the best in the world, and at that age they were. OK let's fast forward some or lots of years. I remember when they first opened up on 183 my wife and I went on the first day because I was excited about getting to try them again. We got in the drive thru line and waited a long time because the line was extremely long. An hour later we got to the drive up order station and ordered a dozen or so of various types of doughnuts. Sweet baby James, my mouth was excited. I think they even made my tongue hard! They were good and warm, and you must eat them warm for the best taste. Oh yes great stuff I thought, melt in my mouth, my wife liked them also. You may think the story ends here it doesn't. A few weeks later I was talking to a work friend and I told him how great Krispy Kreme doughnuts were and he made the comment that Round Rock doughnuts were better. OH NO I said that can not be the case. This argument (friendly of course) went on for months. Now a Krispy Kreme has opened up in Round Rock (closed down now). OK to settle the argument we went to both places and ordered a dozen doughnuts and took them to work and 12 of us tried them and voted. Round Rock Doughnuts won with a vote of 10-2. You would never guess this but I had to stand corrected Round Rock Doughnuts were better, I voted for them. I had to eat humble pie for a long time. Do I like Krispy Kreme doughnuts, yes I do and if you have had them you know they are sweet and full of blood clogging calories and everything else that can kill you but we eat them anyway. Since I live in Round Rock now my choice is Round Rock doughnuts, same rules apply. Would I go back? If someone else brings them to where I am; I will indulge! read more
