The chicken was just as good--hot, fresh, and packed with flavor. The portions were generous and everything tasted homemade. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the whole place had a great vibe. You can tell they take pride in the quality of their food. I have had a craving for fried seafood so with a little research and looking for something budget friendly i stumbled across this hidden gem, after passing through for a while we decided why not give it a shot! I called in my family's order which consisted of; a Shrimp Poboy, a Catfish Poboy, a family order of Fries, 6 Hushpuppies, and a side order of Coleslaw! All for 30$! The service was immaculate, upon arriving I was greeted by Sammie(service attendant) and James (the chef) and they even gave me a complimentary drink. It's ok the food is edible just kinda confused. I think it was owned originally by black folks. There was no RnB music playing and lacked customers. It was empty and the Indian male didn't even know the menu. I asked for the surf and turf and he didn't know what that was. Food was fresh but the tenders had no seasoning along with the fries. I wanted to get my seafood badge. This was the only place that I could think of that was convenient. I called in my order to save time. Finding a parking spot was easy. The Owner quickly greeted me right away. He said, he bought this place 7 to 8 months ago. They painted the walls White and got new countertops. It was very nice in there but, it was a little warm. However, they had two blow fans to help keep it cool. It was almost 4:00 when I went by. There was only one other couple on a date night here. I got Catfish Strips, Fries and Two Hush Puppies. We ordered the 1pc catfish dinner, 6 pc shrimp dinner, two sides of coleslaw and one egg roll. Here's the verdict; $29.00, later we received an extra piece of catfish, a side of okra that we didn't order which was cool. The egg roll was definitely overpriced for the size at $2.49. They may want to decrease that price back to their old one of .99 cents. The portion size were excellent, the fries and hushpuppies weren't fresh. The cornmeal on the fish and shrimp was salty making it difficult to eat the meal. The fries were over salted as while, the okra was fabulous right along with the coleslaw. Not bad! Everyone knows I'm a catfish snob. Growing up in the country in east Texas where your aunt fryers fresh catfish to perfection means you have high standards. Just moved to Fort Worth and needed a fix. Looked at places on Yelp and came across this spot. I live on the north side so I knew coming south meant it would be legit. Easy ordering and friendly staff. About ten minutes wait. Not bad. Fish is previously frozen but they do a good job making sure to remove the water prior to frying. Cornmeal is excellent. So we were in the area visiting my family & wanted to grab some lunch. Good ole Yelp popped up options for catfish & skrimp, so we went with Krispy Catfish & called & placed our order. Got in...spoke....got ready to eat after saying grace & chowed down. I really can't say much smart comments when the food is really way below average....it really gave me "chain restaurants" vibe!! New management and I can definitely taste and see the difference! I have been a Krispy Catfish customer for YEARS. I stopped eating here for a while because the quality had gone down hill. The new restaurant is clean and bright with new chairs, tables and drink fridge. The catfish is seasoned well, not too salty. Catfish has been consistently Krispy, and I've fortunately or unfortunately been returning once a week! They now serve the most delicious hush puppies and coleslaw! I grew up going to this place with my grandfather. Went by for the first time after his passing and it seems to have been bought by a new owner. Remodeling has taken away the homey environment it once had. Cameras added inside the store, a self service fridge with unhealthy out of house drinks. (Energy drinks? Prime?) Self service sauces /utensils is no longer an option. The catfish itself just doesn't have the same technique when being cooked. The breading fluffed and crisped separating from the fish. It was pretty rough getting through the meal for the price payed. It's painful to see such a staple food establishment go through such drastic changes. When walking in there were a few people waiting for their food, we waited a few minutes to be attended. We only saw one person working there the whole time. She was pretty nice. First thing I noticed when walking in was trash was piled up high and coming out of trash can so who knows how long it had been since it had been emptied. again we only saw one person so they must have been short staffed. The menu is divided into sections of Catfish baskets, Seafood baskets and Chicken. All of the baskets come with fries and hush puppies. They will let you substitute the fries so I did. The sides include fried okra, coleslaw, side salad, onion rings, green beans and red beans and rice. Drinks are one size only. It's about a 16 oz. Styrofoam cup for $1.99. Free refills and they have brewed tea on the counter. Sweet and unsweet. The catfish was okay. They don't go all out on the seasoning but the portions are generous. Oh yeah, there's a Hot wings section on the menu also. The flavor choices are Atomic, Hot, BBQ, Parmesan, Lemon-Pepper and Honey Mustard. Took it to go - she made sure that our styrofoam containers were properly ventilated before placing in bags. Absolutely critical for transporting crispiness! Condiments refrigerated and prepared in small containers ready to go: tartar sauce, cocktail sauce, ranch, hot sauce, pickles, and jalapeños, lemons and ketchup! I have patronized Krispy catfish since they opened many years ago. Owners have changed locations from by current DQ to now by Schlotskys for 25 years. Good catfish and shrimp. Prices up a bit as expected, about same price fir 1/3 less shrimp count but good. Service is now still reasonable, but not at all same prime customer interest since the mom-type lady was there for years, often with her daughter for most open hours. At early dinner time, they ran out of ribs, and had not fit the day have ANY required coleslaw, onion rings, hush puppies that are supposed to be with All family combos. So the stories of missing sides are true and missing regularly. Also no pie that has usual pecan and sweet potato. Note: online menu AND electronic menu board screens on site BOTH have no changes for what they are out of, till you order this, and this, and this... so a balanced menu is not possible, and wings from before have been deleted. I would not say the workers are at fault, as I said the former lady and her help always made it nice. This staff is performing duties, not being enthusiastic like the owning/ manager used to do. Owner training and supervision should be able to bring this back. Their sign: something like: if there isn't a way, make a way; and think like the customer... Helps to get a friendly complimentary soda, but that doesn't fix something good for over 20 years when the failures are from the top owner changes. Yet the fish is good and moist with crispy thin crust and shrimp are good sized and both are cooked perfectly. I stumbled upon this place while driving around and it has become my go to EVERY TIME I'm on this side of North Texas. When I 1st visited, there was an older lady who made me feel at home, right after moving down here and not knowing how I was going to make life happen. Her customer service was OFF the Charts and come to find out, I learn today that it was the owners Mom. Besides how great the food is here, you can tell that they care based upon the cleanliness, customer service, value, etc. Food: I got the 8 piece catfish filet which comes with fries and a drink. The fish was so FRESH and I know because most places that cook fish, it has the fishy-fish smell and taste and this meal did not. It was hot and cooked to order. I stopped in for lunch the other day after my doctor's appointment which was right around the corner from the restaurant. The fried catfish filet was huge as well as the shrimp. They don't skimp on the portions in their baskets. The fish and shrimp were not greasy at all and both entrees were cooked perfectly. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal on a cold rainy evening. I opted for the two fillet and four shrimp basket, WOW that was a lot of food. The portions are much larger than I expected and I had to stuff my belly in order not to waste food. I had to make one stop before I got home and then do other stuff before I had a chance to dig in. The food was still very hot when I took a bit. There's not much to the seasoning but again the portions were huge and the fish was hot so what more could one ask for? The hushpuppies were my favorite, I could probably eat a dozen of those in one setting.
