They seem to cater to contractors and landscapers, but they can also help you if your needs are small. The prices seem reasonable, they have tons of selections, and they are pretty helpful. The plus side is that they have a great selection, and beautiful displays in front. We've ordered boulders twice, for two different houses, years apart, and we had the same crane operator both times. He is FANTASTIC. He was very patient, good sense of humor, and had great suggestions. He will turn the boulders all around for you to get just the right placement. The cons - very limited hours for your average homeowner that works. They close at 4:30 every afternoon and 2:30 on Saturday. Closed on Sunday. Saturdays are a zoo with homeowners! Seriously don't understand why they can't have more hours available on Saturdays, open on Sundays and at least one evening. I have been trying for months now to get a specific flagstone. I went in this summer to place an order, and was told it was out of stock, but they would be getting more in soon, and they would call on Monday to let me know when it would be in. Another issue, if you have any questions, they have to wait until the week to get answers, the purchaser is not available on weekends. They say they will call on Mondays, then I have to call back later in the week when I haven't heard from them. This has happened at least 3 times now. They charged my credit card that day, even though they didn't know when it would be available. 3 weeks later, they still didn't have any time frame when it would be back in stock. I understand they are dealing with a small distributor, and may be at their mercy, but don't charge my credit card until it's delivered! I was told I couldn't order it without paying for it first to hold it.???? Most companies don't actually charge your card until your order ships. I canceled the entire order until I can get a better time frame that it will actually be in. A few days, even a week is fine, but no, you can't hold $3,000 of my money indefinitely. Some of the guys that work there are very knowledgeable and helpful, others have no business working unsupervised placing orders. We had one that made several major errors calculating quantities, I've learned to avoid him when I go in, so if you get a younger guy, you might want to double check his math! read more

This place and it's employees are awful. I am a contractor and my customers ordered some stone veneer and flag stone to redo their fireplace. Half of the veneer was broken or scratched and 1 of the flagstone pieces didn't match the other 2 at all. When the homeowner called to exchange the flagstone KRC said they had it in stock, but when we got there 45min later they didn't and we we were sent to their San Marcos location. This place is a joke and the least professional company I have ever worked with. read more

Decent supply, polite staff. KRC is hampered by the fact that it takes WAY too long to purchase something from them. You can find what you want in under 3 minutes - getting either a cart to load it, and/or someone to help you and someone to check you out is embarrassingly inefficient and time consuming. I've been there twice - once on a weekend, once on a weekday. Both times I've been one of a few people who actually walked out of there and went elsewhere. Get it together KRC. read more

Update: I had my caps returned with 12.5% restocking fee. I am 'OK', even though I had to split the restocking fee. I blame myself for not looking at what they ordered clearly. Again, the staff were very nice. I do like that fact. Although I would much hope to avoid hiccups like this. But what you get is different, yet to be proved! We ordered Country Manor Blocks to build a retaining wall. We ordered Gray, Brown, and Terra Cotta Brown color. The blocks are looking good. BUT here are THE problems! 1. wrong type! ALL the Caps are "California cap" type which is COMPLETELY different from "Country" caps. 2. wrong color! We ordered about 131 caps with 3 different colors to match the blocks. However, 1/3 of the caps should be Terra Cotta 'BROWN', but apparently that word "Brown" was left out of the description. And Terra Cotta is VERY different color from Terra Cotta 'BROWN". 3. Well, I raised these concerns to Carlos at the store, he was nice, saying that he will try to waive this. But the PROBLEM is, they still came back saying they will still Charge for 35% of all my CAPS for the re-stocking fee! now this really got on my nerve! How could you ask your customer to COVER your mistakes when you order the wrong parts? This is very upsetting me, given the good impression I first had from them! Let's see how they resolve this problem. I hope they will stand behind their mistakes and man-up to this! And keep their good image this our neighborhood! I will update everyone on this! but for now, KEEP CAUTION, because, you might end up paying restocking fee because they ordered you the wrong part. read more

While their products are actually decent their employees aren't. As if the guy behind the counter wasn't rude enough they guy that loaded my rock didn't even say one word to me. I got a "what's up" head bob like I was bothering him. Then he shorted me a whole yard and tried to say he didn't. Maybe if you're a contractor that buys 25+ yards of things at a time they treat you better but if you're a homeowner buying 5 yards or less I don't think they care at all. This place is AWESOME, they have an amazing selection of crushed rock. It makes for a really great looking and easy home improvement project. I needed to cover up some bare earth left exposed after I had a retaining wall installed. I pulled my truck in and paid for the goods I wanted, just a quarter-cubic yard of reddish-tan gravel, one of the guys expertly maneuvered a loader across the yard, scooped up my stuff and deposited it neatly in my truck bed. I drove home and placed the gravel, it took only an hour or so and it looked 100% better. I've been dreaming up other projects I can use more crushed rock on. I had a great experience, the guys were friendly, the gravel was really inexpensive -- no complaints whatsoever! read more

Other locations are lovely.....Poway location is not recommended and will not return to this location. There is not any customer whatsoever. Waited 25 minutes in the trailer-like office to get service. While waiting I witnessed the phone ringing and the older gentlemen behind the desk pick the phone up and immediately hang it up over and over. I was wondering if the owner knows this is happening because it cannot be good for business. Same man was rude and acted like my business was an inconvenience to his day while helping me. Came back later in the afternoon to pick up our rock and the same man couldn't have been more bothered with telling to go to the top lot to get my rock. I go to where instructed,find another gentleman who tells me "oh yeah, it's up there....." When I get to the right spot there's no one around to load. The man I just talked to goes back down to the trailer and is helping customer that arrived after me. After waiting around awhile I go back down to the trailer and ask who is supposed to help me? The man then says "oh let me call someone on the radio". I thinking that would have been a great idea to do right after he sent me to top, right?! So then I see people walking from across the street and here and there. Were all their employees on break at the same time? Again, San Marco's is awesome. This particular location was horrible. The owner needs to read some of these reviews and make some changes because they will be losing customers......I'm one of them. read more

Called in on Sat and talked to steve, who was not friendly on the phone, He kept cutting me off and I could tell he was really annoyed with talking to me on the phone and kept trying to rush me off the phone. He ended up hanging the phone up BEFORE I got to ask my last question. I know im not a contractor, but still you need to have patience when talking to people. My landscaper advised me to not go to krc rock because he knew how rude the guy was at the counter and apparently this happens ALOT that he has witnessed. Steve and Manny are awesome at KRC Rock! Steve worked with me for 3-days in a row showing me different items and giving me samples to show to my husband. He is super helpful. Manny helped me find a great contractor named Alvaro to install the stone and it looks great. I've been going here for 17+ years and always love the service and selection. Years ago my first job was building a pond with 2-tons of boulder, and it still looks beautiful. My latest purchase was 2-tons of thin Chocolate Flagstone to replace some of our lawn for our backyard. All I can say is that I will happily be returning to KRC Rock for 17+ years to come. Wow, what is this, 1957? I dropped in on a Wednesday morning and entered the shed. I waited patiently behind two contractors to handle their business with the man behind the counter. My turn. I told the man I was interested in finding out about boulders: how did I go about picking one, what was the cost, how much to deliver, etc. He gave me short, criptic answers with that attitude of "why don't ya go back home and send your husband to do this man's job". Please note: he DID NOT SAY that, just the attitude women often receive when dealing with mechanics, car salesmen, building supply people, etc. He told me to go to the very back, pick out a boulder and the guys would weigh it for me and price it. Great! I walk back, find two smaller boulders and look over at two men nearby helping another (male) customer. They ignored me, even when I waved my hand. I get they may be busy helping other customers and that's great; I'll always wait my turn. But even though they could see me waiting for 20 mins, they walked away when they were done! I am a pleasant person. I do not like being ignored at a business. I do not expect this to affect where you shop for rocks, but I wanted them to know how disappointed I was in their lack of service! read more

Worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. Several years ago I bought some landscape rock from this place and was reasonably happy, so when I needed to buy a large amount of rock again for another project I went back. I pretty much knew what I wanted, but I was really surprised by the complete lack of disinterest and help I received from the two guys behind the counter. I even heard one of them answer the phone with "yo". They didn't offer to show me anything or ask any questions about my project, if I hadn't specifically known what to ask for I would have been totally lost. I took two sample bags home to compare and then I called later to try and place an order. I used the number from their website (during regular business hours) and got a voicemail (which they claim to check regularly). I left a message specifically stating that I wanted to buy some of their product and after a week I got no response, so I opted to go somewhere else where my business might be appreciated. read more

On May 13th, 2016 I purchased a container of DG Stabilizer. The salesman was very friendly and helpful and told me that I could return it unopened with a receipt. Today I went to return it and was then informed that there is a 25% restocking fee! I was never told about a restocking fee when I purchased it and would not have bought it at KRC had I known that! I could easily have bought it online from Home Depot and now wish that I had done that instead. I waited at least 10 minutes in line and the salesperson offered to change the restocking fee to 15%, I guess since the original salesperson hadn't informed me about it. I am still very upset as there is nothing on the receipt telling me that there is a restocking fee, so how was I to know? It's not as if there's a problem 'restocking' the item. It's just a container that they have to put on the shelf. I think this is very poor customer service and for that restocking fee, they've lost a customer forever. I would like a response back regarding what I consider an unethical business practice. read more

Moreover, Kyle loaded our car and then came to house after work to unload bags (very heavy), and distribute the rocks over the selected areas. He did it for a very reasonable fee. I am not a person to make reviews, but the way I was treated at KRC Rock earlier today definitely made me feel that I need to leave a review about this place. I drove up and decided to look around. I looked around the yard and decided to go in the office since I had a lot of questions. I wanted to get information on what to do with my yard. I really have no clue! Going inside the office, I saw an older man working in there. So I went up and started asking him questions but he started to be disrespectful and acted as if I was bothering him. His answers were very short, as if he really did not want to help me at all. I'm not sure if he did not want to help me because I am very clueless about the materials and product?? But isn't that the point of being an employee here? Guess not to KRC Rock. I left because I was not getting the help I needed. As I was leaving, a younger man stopped me and asked if I needed help. He was nice and more helpful than the older man. But just being so disrespectful to a customer does not make me want to come back. read more

KRC Rock is a great place to do business. When I decided to redo my yard in rock and native plants I had no idea of what and how much I would need. So I took some pictures with some approximate dimensions of the yard. Eric looked at the photo and was able to tell me what and how much I would need. I chose the colors and types of rock I wanted and Eric did the rest. When the rock was delivered, I was amazed that it was a perfect amount for all of the parts of my yard. Love this place. I'm a single woman landscaping a backyard by myself. I make many trips to the Poway yard and they guys go out of there way to be helpful. Alex patiently answers all my questions, calculates the yardage and will have items ready for me in advance if I let him know I'm coming in. Antonio works the tractor and is so careful when loading gravel and DG in the back of my truck, never a spill and always easy for me to unload. Last but not least, Bruce delivered a load of DG to my house, I was concerned about an unexpected rain shower headed my way, I called dispatched asked if the DG could be covered, Bruce took care of it; brought plastic and secured every inch of 3 yards of DG - I was so impressed when I got home. Can't thank these guys enough, they take great care of my needs and I highly recommend KRC for your landscaping project! read more
