At that time, I comparison-shopped and found KRC to be more reasonably priced with better customer service than the "big brother" competitor nearby. This week, I was looking for landscape boulders for a house in North Park. Just to be fair, I tried out KRC's competitor first. I'm really sorry I bored the guy behind the counter so much. If he was any less motivated, I might have mistaken him for a potted plant. So I headed five minutes east to KRC. I got a price sheet right away and was directed to the boulder piles. Sherry pointed out some great-looking honey quartz boulders. I bought two. Josh skillfully separated them out from the herd and took them to the scale. For under $500, I got 1500 lbs of rock, plus delivery and installation. And -- KRC has Bart. He's the crane operator who will set your boulders in place like putting the cherry on top of a vanilla sundae. Funny guy, but serious when it comes to his craft. I first used KRC about 7 years ago when we did a very big landscaping project on our large corner lot. I remembered that the service, help, and pricing was really good. So for this current project, I came back, and am happy I did. This is just a small project, but the staff (Steve, Mark, three younger helpers) were all very helpful and accommodating. I had done research ahead of time about quantity and types of materials that would be best. Steve was very helpful, suggesting I first bring home some samples to see how the different colors looked alongside my current xeriscape. He then suggested I start with less than I thought I'd need to avoid too much waste. So, I popped into the Lakeside location one day and told the staff that I have some flagstone that needs to be sealed and would like to use a color enhancing product. To which they directed me to the glaze-n-seal wet look product. I asked them if it would be slippery as there appeared to be a glossy coating? Both the gentleman that was outside and behind the counter said, "no, and recommended the product." I took the product home, put it in a 1-gallon garden sprayer and proceeded to spray a thin coat on all the flagstone in my front yard and around the edge of the swimming pool. It dried by the next day and looked fantastic. *The only problem is if anyone steps on it when it is wet, they are bound to slip, fall, and break their neck. You can imagine that this is a huge liability issue as well as danger for the children playing around the pool. Naturally, I called up glaze-n-seal in Irvine California and spoke with their technical support. Unfortunately, the staff stated that I had to do a few things to fix the problem. #1 was to purchase a heavy-duty stripping product to strip the sealant off, which would cost more money, and be very labor intensive. Not to mention the heavy-duty chemicals in or near the swimming pool. #2 was to go by another gallon of the product, along with something called Grip -n-seal with the hopes that it would combine and add a little texture to reduce slippage. We started a project that needed flagstone to match what was already in place. I searched yards from lakeside to fallbrook without success until finally looking at KRC in San Marcos. one of the fellows in the yard helped identify the samples we brought with us and apologetically let us know that the San Marcos yard did not have any in stock at the moment, the last pallet leaving about 2 weeks prior. the staff at the front desk checked their system and found a pallet at the Lakeside yard. the fellows at the Lakeside yard helped us identify the pallet of stone we needed and assisted us pull what our contractor said we needed to complete the project at the house. unlike the competitor with the alphabet name that gave us a price sheet and pointed us out to the yard without further help, the folks at KRC are the absolute best looking into what our search criteria were, helping us find what we needed and getting the precise selection of stone to make the bride happy. Staff gets 5 stars for friendly and helpful. But, their business practises get a 2. They have perfected the art of increasing their profit by charging you small ridiculous fees. I purchased 3 large rocks (i.e 24"x 30") and 2 yards of small rock. I had it all delivered (costly $145) and then was charged $15 for their use of a heavy metal bin to put the large rocks in. When you pay a deposit ($25 for 1 yd rock bags and $15 fora pallet) you only get $20/$11 back when you return them. This is like being charged for plates in a restaurant. Their prices as others have mentioned are a premium. These extra costs should already be in their prices. Check around and compare prices before you buy at KRC. read more

Rock on!!!! We couldn't be any happier with our experience. We're landscaping our hillside and came to price out some boulders. We ended up having a great time learning about the different types of rocks. We picked out some beauties. Steve was super helpful in helping us decide on the size, dimensions, and type of rocks. He is very knowledgable on all things rock. He was also amazingly adept at maneuvering the heavy equipment to grab just the rock we wanted and was so helpful even power washing a few of the boulders so we could see their colors. When the rocks were delivered, the driver perfectly placed them for maximum visual effect and expertly anchored them to the hillside. He took time and asked questions to help me make my selections. I was in and out in less than thirty minutes. My experience today was in stark contrast to the general disinterest I've found in shopping for stone recently (including unfortunately KRC's massive San Marcos yard where they could really use some training from their Lakeside employees!) It's been a couple years later and I am doing another project on the house. My experience is very different this time. Two morning deliveries turned into 3PM - the whole time I'm waiting around the house in case they came. The driver also loaded my large 1000# boulders in the box wrong so when he tipped them out into my driveway from the forklift, they fell several feet on top of the other boulders in the box... breaking a major chunk off. That boulder was specifically picked out as a focal point in the yard due to its unique shape. I was able to more or less piece it back together, but the damage is done - the cracks are very visible. On the other delivery, the driver drove the forklift over my concrete pavers leading to the front door and broke them.... I know he was able to avoid them because the first two bags he stayed 100% on the driveway. The third bag he ended up getting sloppy and drove over everything. I also have a bit of a problem with how they label their material. Some of the cobble I ordered is bigger than the description. 1-2" seems like the smallest diameter. Maybe I should know better, or maybe the description just isn't very accurate to begin with. I will say that Scott, the manager, did offer to make things right. He, along with the rest of the staff, are friendly and helpful. read more

My company has been doing business here for over 30 years (Back when it was called Jurgies) This is by far the best crew they've ever had. The manager, Maverick, is extremely friendly, gives great pricing, and is able to complete even the biggest orders on short notice.
