Rock and Block was incredible. They give discounts for first responders and military I believe. They were priced at or below their competitors. The staff were all super knowledgeable. I ordered a cubic yard of rock, which required two trips in my Tacoma truck. They used a tractor to load the rock in the back of my truck. They were careful loading it slowly and careful to not damage my truck. I would definitely come back here for any of my hardscape and turf needs. They have a good selection at good prices and great service to match. read more

My first time here I was quite impressed with their selection of stone as well as the items they had to offer inside of the store. The yard guys were great and the one that ended up helping me went above and beyond to help me pick the right stone, get it on the pallets, and ultimately, load it in my truck. I went into the store to pay for the pallet and half of stone (not a small order) and realized they were going to be closing in about 5 minutes...little before 5:00. The associate ended up charging me a price different from what was told to me over the phone the day before. That particular employee was not working the day I went in. I told them that I had two contractors working on my project and that they had already purchased stone and other goods from them in hopes that they would give me the contractor's price. I didn't assume so I asked them to look up the companies name & purchase history. After a few minutes, a manager or maybe owner, came over to assist and he seemed a little irritated because I had asked for a break down of the pricing and that it didn't seem as though I was getting the contractor's price. He reminded me that the pricing he was giving me was "simple math" and that there was a discount. The fact that it was now after 5:00 didn't help matters...it was obvious he wanted to get out of there and get me out of his store. As previously mentioned, everyone was quite gracious but with this one exception. I ended up paying over $1700.00 for what I was originally quoted at $1300.00. There are many other "brick and mortar" stone stores around and I won't be going back to a place with management that doesn't embrace customer support and satisfaction. Sure, we all have bad days and Life stuff happening to us...perhaps stay in the back office and let your happy employees take care of the customers. read more

I started to ask the guy behind the counter if they had any black lava rock and before I could even finish my question, he was shaking his head no. He said they haven't had it for a very long time. When I asked why, he very smugly said "Well, for one thing, we don't have any volcanos in California", and smirked like I was an idiot. (Wrong sir; there are over 500 volcanic vents and seven active volcanoes in California). He then went on to say that it's very expensive and hard to find. He said all of this in a very demeaning tone like I was crazy to even ask for it. He just wasn't pleasant and his demeanor was not warranted. Just sat staring at a computer while he was speaking and offered zero help. We ended up at KRC Rock in San Marcos who had tons (literally) of black lava rock in various sizes. They said they always have it and can't understand why we were told it was hard to find. Much nicer people and helpful to homeowners unfamiliar with purchasing stone. read more

Wow! What great service and friendly help. My wife wanted a specific style of garden rock for our walkway and they were very helpful. I don't think anyone really likes the price of rocks, but, in this case it was really well worth it. And to make it even nicer, they offer a military discount. Also, I got a free ink pen... These guys are a small family owned and operated business. Everyone I worked with was very professional and understanding. I even gave them a hard time and quoted them up against other like RCP and they were still the best price. I gave them a drawing of what I wanted to do and they helped me figure out how much of everything I needed to complete the job. Once my job was done I had a lot of left over materials and they were kind enough to only charge me a 15% restocking fee instead of the normal 25%. Building a pool and came in twice to browse the pool coping, rock and tile selection. I ended up making a 1-on-1 appointment with Tim. I HIGHLY recommend this! We had a major time crunch and he got me in the next day and stayed late to do so. He was very friendly and knowledgeable! I wasn't rushed at all, and he had me look at materials out in the lighting outside too (really changed how a few looked compared to showroom inside). I called this business ahead to be sure masks were required and was told yes customers and workers are required to wear masks. I went into this business and 4 people had no masks (customers) and one employee no mask as well the one helping me had his around his neck not on his face. I asked that the people not wearing masks be asked to do so. At that time the employee put his back on and then was very rude to me the rest of the transaction, and I was told he was trying to get me out of there fast, why try to get me out fast all I wanted to do was get what i needed in a safe environment, that I asked about before going in. How about those not wearing a mask they need to be asked to comply or leave, masks are required. I explained the issue is I have people at home that I do not want to get them sick they are immune suppressed. Not sure why the employee so hostile I was only asking that they follow what I was told via phone would be the situation, that is why I called ahead to be certain masks were being worn and were required. It should have not been an issue the people not wearing masks should have been asked to do so. Why does that make me the bad guy I wonder, why be so nasty to me when I ask YOUR business to protect our surroundings. I avoided another business that I called and was told oh no you do not have to wear a mask. Well if I don't have to wear one, then guess they are not enforcing so I avoided that business. At least they were honest up front. I made an effort ahead to ask so I could feel safe but this business is not making customers wear masks and is nasty to those that point out the violation. I made the comment i would I guess have to find another business to go to at which time my invoice was thrown at me. I had been a customer for many years and to be treated so badly over a law you should be enforcing is beyond wrong and was hurtfull. Guess you do not care if you keep you customers safe, you simply lie when asked. At the very least if someone calls to ask be honest, if you are allowing customers to not wear a mask then say so, don't let them come to your business when you are not following the law and put them in danger. Shame on you for putting the rest of us in harms way. I used to love this place and thought they would have been more responsible. Buyer beware! I think they may have a scam going on with local contractors to rip people off.  I gave my contractor money to go buy materials at this place, none of which were delivered to my house, but Alpine allowed my contractor to take them without paying for them. The owner who is incredibly arrogant then proceeded to harrass me for payment because they made the mistake of giving an irresponsible contractor credit terms. Don't get caught in a mess with this place, they don't have any more selection than what other places have. They surely don't care about treating customers well when THEY screw up. read more

I had also noticed that Alpine R&B sponsors many of my community organizations,so when I was in the market to pave a patch of grass in my backyard, i decided to check this place out. I was very impressed with their selection, the quality of their products, and pricing. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable. The product they have access is to is good, but the customer service is greatly lacking. I was assisted by a young woman in the office who was rude, unhelpful, uneducated on the products they sell and the computer systems they use. My family has used Rock and Block as their main supplier for many personal and work jobs in the past, we will no longer after the customer experience we had today. Starting with Cassie in the front office, we were directed to the location of our product; some large boulders for our front yard. On two different occasions we were met by Roger and Dwayne. Each of them cheerfully and patiently allowed my wife and I to go through the inventory to insure we were selecting just the right pieces. Today, Tim dropped them off in exactly the spots in the yard he was directed. Having years of experience, we thought he would be a good guy to tap for a little guidance. Wow! Went over to Alpine Rock on my lunch break to see what sort of gravel, rocks, and stone they had. When I walked in I was greated by an employee named Tim, and I have to say, he did a great job with customer service. I mean he really spent time helping me understand the different rocks, stones, pavers, etc... He knew his stuff. I have not yet purchsed anything from them, but plan to. Rock and Block hardscape supply is great. I ended up here because my local Lowes didn't have the pavers in the color and size that I wanted. So I did a little research and found they got their supply from these folks. Turns out they had the exact pavers I wanted, for even cheaper than the Lowes. We came to Rock and Block through our pool renovation. They exclusively use Rock and Block and told us to go there and meet with Tim. He was awesome to work with! He was very patient with me and all the questions I asked, as well as my indecisiveness. We did have some hiccups come up along the way with the pavers we chose for the backyard. After installing two pallets of pavers, 1/4 of the job, we come to find out that the manufacturer sent two different sizes of pavers. This was a disaster as we had a deadline to finish the job due to our baby shower, and the only option was to restart. Tim came over with a few guys and lifted every single 50LB paver to assist the mason and ensured we had the right size pavers within a day to finish the job. Issues will arise but what matters is the customer service and the solution. They hit it out of the park with the customer service and the solution. We even for a text on our shower day. Ordered key stone bricks and the guys loading them expected me to do half the work. Later came back and bought two cubic yards of top soil dirt and the tractor operator dented my truck while loading the dirt. Very disappointed. (Never was offered reimbursement or even an apology) The top soil dirt couldn't grow anything in my garden all year and was rich in clay content so the garden didn't drain well. Also the lady behind the desk didn't tell me until after I paid that I had to transport both cubic yards at once. My truck could only fit one at a time. Next time buy one yard at a time and not both, if there ever will be a next time... I've heard good things about Alpine Rock n Block, just haven't experienced them yet. read more

We went across the street to Alpine Rock and Block and they helped us right away with sand bags to ensure we could keep the water out of our business. Last year they did the same when our house flooded, and the neighbors hillside washed out into our pool. They helped us get all the items we needed to ensure this didn't happen again. This place has the very worst customer service ever! They don't seem to care about helping a customer even when you are the only customer there! You can stand in the yard for a long time, and no one will come to help you. When I tried to talk to someone about how frustrated I was, they did not care at all, did not apologize, nothing.
