We had a great time at Crawfish Kai! The food was delicious, and everything was cooked perfectly, not overdone at all. Our waitress was pleasant, and the entire staff worked together to make sure everyone was taken care of. There's plenty of seating inside, and parking is easy, especially if you're familiar with the area. The restaurant is clean and located in a nice area. The menu offers something for everyone, including seafood, Creole, and Cajun dishes. Early crawfish season visit on a beautiful Saturday in February with family. It was a beautiful day in downtown Montgomery Texas so we decided on an afternoon visit to sit outdoors under umbrella for some crawfish. They were pretty busy so we did have a short wait for food, but not unbearably long. My daughter and son in law got 2 lbs crawfish with potatoes and Kai sauce as did my husband and I. Theirs came out pretty quickly but we had a bit longer wait. A chicken strips kids meal was also ordered for my grandson. The fries were plentiful and he seemed to enjoy. I had a glass of wine and my SIL had a frozen hurricane with waters all around and a Dr Pepper. Unfortunately, they were out of lemonade and no other juice options available for my grandson so he had to go with water. We didn't order any extra sauces for the crawfish to be tossed into as we wanted to try them as they were intended. My daughter and son-in-law's order seem to be more medium and smalls while ours was strictly smalls pill was easy. Taste was good. My daughter also ordered a half pound of boiled shrimp. They were very tasty and buttery easy peel and decent size the potatoes were tasty without being overly seasoned. The Thai sauce is a good addition to add a little more flavor. We are looking forward to coming back when the season gets a little more stable and trying different Crawfish varieties this is a great outdoor spot in our little town. read more

We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and it was not very busy. We sat outside but switched tables because of a string chemical smell coming from the left side of the building. I ordered a shrimp poboy with a cup of gumbo and a sweet tea. The sweet tea was very good. The food however was very mid and bland to be considered Cajun. The fries were overly salty, the gumbo needed lots of hot sauce which it turn also made it salty and the shrimp didn't taste like anything. My friend got crawfish and ate probably one bite. The service was very slow, and our waitress while nice was very forgetful and did not check in often. They didn't even have napkins. The wait for the food was unusually long especially considering what we got. Prices were fair. Parking is limited so you will likely have to park in a parking lot near the other side of the street. We visited based on the Yelp reviews. Considering this is a small town this may actually be a considered a good Cajun place to the surrounding area, but I would not recommend or return read more

I wasn't sure why there weren't any recent reviews but saw an overall 4.3 so decided to give it a try. While the service was good the food was not. Tasted like everything came out jars and tins for the étouffée. I Cajun/creole flavors just very salty tomatoes no fresh bell peppers. I know you can't get live crawfish this time of year but what was used had been frozen for a long time and was chewy. Inedible dish. The "catfish" nuggets were chewy and tasted like swai (not catfish). No seasoning in the batter. Save yourself some money and time and look elsewhere for Cajun food. read more

Stopped by for our first time with many recommendations and we were not disappointed. The service was totally amazing. Crawfish came out very quick. They were easy to peel. The seasoning was spot on a little dirty and eight out of 10 on the crawfish, but it was amazing. I would recommend anybody trying out this place. Happened to find out about this place from FB. Love the name - that alone made me want to try it. lol We went on Valentine's and they sold out of crawfish around 6:30ish. We were one of the last few to be able to order. As mentioned in a previous post, the staff was attentive and friendly. They answered any question that we had with a smile. We sat outside and it was a cold night. The indoor seating has a bar and two tables, which were all occupied. Not a big deal, there were plenty of tables outside. I had been to to this restaurant twice before and was really looking forward to dinner with family. This was the worst dining experience ever! Server could not get orders correct and would have to be asked over and over for something. Five of us and my food came out very fast, two more orders 15 min later and the final two 30 minutes after that! The final two were redfish and were cold in the middle. Numerous apologies from the server but then she would forget to bring stuff she offered to bring, like iced tea refills. At one point she told us the problem was that management had hired teenagers in the kitchen. The entire time, a manager never came to talk to us or ask what was going on. The table behind us had problems with the same server, who gave them an inaccurate bill and then spent 20 minutes correcting it. Definitely one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The waitress was nice and attentive. Their overflowing garbage at the front of the place stunk to high heaven. Luckily, someone came and emptied it. I ordered the half crawfish etouffee and half fried crawfish. What I got was this stewlike substance and the tiniest fried crawfish I have ever seen. I have no idea where you get crawfish like this, but I am betting it is China. Whoever owns this place has no idea what etouffee is. I have been eating and making it for decades and I have never seen or tasted anything like this disgusting meal. The place is packed most times I pass it. The food here is so good. As far as fries goes, they have the best fries I've ever had. I probably would only do take out. It's kind of a dive and smells really fishy. A little disappointed in the crawfish. I ordered spicy garlic but all I could taste was cinnamon. I know people are adding cinnamon to their boils to add a level of complexity but please stop. That's one spice that doesn't belong in crawfish! read more

Amazing food...and I'm not just saying that because I know the owner...great location for this area...when you first walk up you'll see all of the available outside seating...that's where you will go if you have a small group...the inside area is small...with just the bar area and a couple of tables...but it's nice...with 4 big screen TV's mounted to watch...now let's talk about the food...delicious...I started off with the alligator bites...very good flavor...and fried just right...then I finished with the seafood platter...that delivered a soft shell crawfish...it was my first time eating one of those...and it was quite tasty...now I'm not a big time drinker...but the frozen daiquiris were amazing...the good stuff...not wine base...I also overheard a couple of customers raving about the gumbo and crawfish...so when you come here...you have to have it...this was the Grand opening...so more great things will be added to the menu...so if you're out in the Montgomery area...you must come out and check this spot out...I guarantee you and your family and friends will love it read more

Newish place in the heart of Montgomery. They've done a nice job of creating a real seafood shack feel. There's only a couple of indoor tables, all the people and the action and the fun is on the deck, both front and sides. The only reason I didn't give Krawfish Kai 4 stars is because they were out of several items on their menu by the time I got there to order. So I did not get to try a few things I was hoping to try. That said, the food I got was all outstanding!! I had some fried shrimp, some crawfish etouffee, some gumbo, and the redfish entree. All were excellent and I and my family will definitely be going back!! I did takeout, but they have a pretty large patio area as well as a several indoor tables for dining, and the atmosphere is very family friendly. My only suggestion is go and go early so you hopefully get there before they run out of some items on their menu. In their defense, I went a little late on a Friday evening (toward the end of the 6:00PM dinner hour rush), and they were crowded and the staff was very busy. Got takeout. One thing my hubby noticed is all the kitchen staff are young things. The food was tasty, but both our boils were DRY. Not in a bag, not oiled, dry seasoned. Never had it that way and it made for the worst boil I've ever had. Not because of flavor, but dryness. Couldn't finish my dried out potatoes. The crawfish puppies were the best item. Perfect spot to hang out and enjoy some crawfish and other creole food. The crawfish are still a tad small but it's still early in the season. I will say the way the crawfish were cooked was to perfection. I really like that they have kids meals too because a lot of crawfish places do not. Wonderful beer on tap and drinks.
