I love the huge open concept restaurant and the decor. Food was solid, no complaints.

Went last night for the second time and was very disappointed. The margarita i ordered was strong, but not in a good way. It was not good and I didn't finish it. I asked the waiter if the mariscos seafood soup was good and he said yes just a little spicy. The soup has no spicy flavor at all. And the soup was literally only crawfish tails, fish, and shrimp... nothing else in the broth. I had to send it back because i could not finish it. My husband ordered a chicken quesadilla and there was no seasoning on the chicken. Don't think we will be back after this visit.

La Palapa tray (which came with a single onion ring)

Visited for the first time on a holiday and was surprised to see only two other families dining--an immediate red flag. The experience started off poorly with the chips and salsa. Both were extremely underwhelming. The white sauce tasted like plain ranch (not the good kind), and the red salsa had a canned flavor with no spice or freshness--second red flag. We ordered a cup of gumbo, which turned out to be far too salty and had to be returned. Third red flag. Next, we tried The Palapa seafood tray. As a Mexican family, we found the pairing of charro beans with seafood quite confusing and unappealing--it simply didn't work. Beans also had a canned flavor. Fourth red flag. The only highlight of the meal was the fried seafood itself, which was flavorful and well-cooked. Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. Our server was noticeably stingy with basics like napkins and tartar sauce, even when asked for more. While the ambiance was nice, the food--especially the chips and salsa--missed the mark. In our opinion, great chips and salsa are key to bringing people back, and this place fell short. Sadly, we won't be returning.

I've been here a few times now, and this place is an absolute gem. Not only to they have a kid's menu and are kid friendly, (you can take how you may) but I love the lunch options. I don't have to worry so much about whether or not something is allowed, because of how many pescatarian and fish options they have. Their chips and salsa are great, and the queso may be the best in Houston. I almost want to gatekeep place just because of how good it is and how I don't have to wait for a table, but they deserve the love. The grilled salmon is fantastic, I've ordered it multiple times now. The fish po boy is a bunch of fried fish in bread and a seafood lover like me would give it all the heart eyes. My daughter said that their mashed potatoes are almost as good as mine-- it's a huge compliment, I assure you. They play great music, I wanted to have a dance party for the music and chill vibes alone. I love how their lemon has a little mesh bag over it, it's so cute and keeps seeds out of the way. Definitely worth a try!!

We were looking for some seafood Po Boys and La Palapa did not disappoint! We went to the drive through and ordered one fried catfish and one fried shrimp poboy with an order of onion rings to go. The Service was great and prices were reasonable The food was delicious and the serving was generous. Next time we want to dine in and try something else on the menu.

Shrimp Empanadas (Need help with filling)

My wife and I love trying new or new to us restaurants. So tonight, we decided to try La Palapa after looking at their menu and thought it looked interesting. And let me say, do not pass this place up, the food and service were great! Our server was deeply knowledgeable, we had a couple questions especially since it was our first time there and his suggestions were spot on! More on that later. When you walk in you are reminded a little of Joe's Crab Shack with the décor, lots of memorabilia everywhere (I want the Storm Trooper). We ended up picking a quiet night because they weren't that busy, so we were seated immediately. They bring you Chips, Red & Creamy Jalapeno Salsa, both incredibly good. I have a hard time finding salsa I like cause unfortunately I'm one of those that cilantro is a bad taste to me and this is not heavy with it but a good smoky flavor. After that and our drinks we started with Shrimp Empanadas (Because my wife loooves empanadas) and a half dozen raw oysters. The empanadas were ok, not great and the reason I say that is cause there was not much filling in each of them and the dough wasn't exactly right (Not a bad dough but it wasn't very crispy like fried empanadas, I think they were baked) But that being said they were ok and the slaw they come with was great along with the queso. The oysters were fresh and came with the normal dress. The only thing I could say about the oysters is they could be released from their shell but that is a tiny ding. I'm an oyster lover and would have eaten a dozen on my own but we tend to over order on our first visit to a restaurant. My wife ordered the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo and I decided on the Mariscos Soup. My wife took her first bite and said "Interesting!" She wasn't expecting the flavor, smokiness, and heartiness and loved it. I tried it and yes, the smoke comes through on top which I love cause smoked meat is heaven. My Mariscos first bite you taste the seafood but not very spicy which is ok cause there are plenty of hot sauces around. I added the squeezed lemon juice which woke everything up in the soup. Of course I love spice so I added hot sauce on the table and that enhanced it even more, very tasty! The main dishes, I went with Combo Fajita Bowl (Molcajete) and she chose the Seafood Enchiladas. My bowl comes out and looks awesome, great presentation, plenty of sides and toppings. The bowl itself had a tomatillo lime sauce in the bottom of the bowl with shrimp, chicken, steak, andouille, queso fresco, green onions, & jalapeno (All grilled!!!!). Needless to say, this was the perfect way to try every kind of fajita and more. Amazingly it wasn't too much and yes they do a single serving and for two. As far as flavors, everything tasted great alone and all together. The sides, dirty rice and refried beans were delicious and again with a different taste was the dirty rice which was a pleasant surprise. My wife's enchiladas were ok. She said the salt ended up a bit too heavy. They were a little one note because the filling melded with the queso, so not much of a differentiation between them. Also, they could have had a little more seafood filling. She was only really tasting the crawfish and queso. She really loved the dirty rice and the charro beans were good. The only other thing I could say about tonight and it is just my own personal opinion not anything bad. Timing of bringing out the dishes, our appetizers came out and we were able to finish those before our soup and gumbo, which I loved the timing. As we were starting to eat those our entrees were brought to the table which we were finding places for everything at that point. Unfortunately, we did not leave room for dessert. That will have to wait until next time. Which there definitely will be a next time! Overall experience was great. Service, food, friendliness, attentive... all B+ If you made it to this point pat yourself on the back and give yourself a gold star, cause I know I'm long winded and hope this review helps you.

Mariscos soup served with garlic bread

This week, we went to La Palapa for the first time, so we wanted to try a variety of items to make the most of our experience. We arrived just after Happy Hour, so definitely check out those specials. For starters, we had the chips and salsa (fresh red salsa & creamy jalapeño sauce - delicious!) and the shrimp empanadas which were served with red salsa and queso. So yum and the crust was outstanding, but we had to save room because there were so many more dishes we wanted to try. My husband didn't want to miss the Mariscos soup (seafood soup) - he said it's the best he's ever had. It comes with a slice of garlic bread which light and flavorful! For our entrees, we shared both the beef fajitas (comes with tortillas, rice, charro beans, guacamole, sour cream, and pico) and the grilled Mahi Mahi fish tacos. So much food - we couldn't finish it all! Everything exceeded our expectations. We went during the week - they offer daily specials which is a perfect way to save some money and try different menu items, depending on the day. We both drank beer and hubby finished dinner off with a glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. They have a fully stocked bar to make everyone's faves. The service was excellent. We joined their loyalty program ("Palapa Perks"), so we will get a free dessert on our next visit. Great job, La Palapa! We'll definitely be back! Oh and they have two locations - Vintage Park & Spring (FM 2920 & TC Jester).

Wow!! Is all I can say!!! This is our 2nd time here and it did not disappoint! Great food, very clean atmosphere and the people are very welcoming. The Buffalo shrimp were outstanding and were crushed before I could get to take a picture. Fajita nachos and Dos XX were great! We are now hooked, it is on the Saturday date night rotation

Someone must be putting up false reviews. This place is awful. What a waste of my money. The food was to salty. And the dirty rice felt like it came straight out the box. I should've know by the empty dining room.

Baked Oysters

Service was very friendly and attentive. Baked oysters- 90% melted cheese, some of the oysters were a little sandy 4/10 Poboy sandwich- 6/10 too much bread, fries tasted like frozen crinkle cut fries from Walmart. Fried shrimp was the saving piece. Steak fajitas- 8/10 fajitas were great, the meat was cooked very nicely. Comes with guacamole, pico, sour cream, dirty rice and charro beans. Very generous with the guacamole unlike most. Was not a fan of the dirty rice.

Great music for beach dining atmosphere! He takes requests. English and Spanish.
