In the tiniest of roadside shacks is a terrific little seafood shop with a fine selection of fresh seafood and shellfish. We had two crab and shrimp cocktails to go. They were served with fabulous cocktail sauce and oyster crackers and for $8 each, they were huge servings of great seafood. The crab pieces were huge and plentiful. I love fish markets, and Krab Kettle is one of the best. You will find fresh dungeness crab, oysters, clams, and whatever the fishermen have brought in that day. Chowder, fish, and service were all 5 stars. (Presentation is clearly not top priority, if that matters to you.) The clam chowder was incredible. Thick but not too thick. Lots of clams. Just the right amount of potatoes. I sipped it on the drive back to my campground I couldn't wait. I got two types of salmon, smoked and jerky. Both were the type of great that makes you close your eyes and savor the bite. Not cheap, totally worth it. The employee was apparently having a rough afternoon- but rather than taking it out on me she turned it around and was especially helpful. Thank you, to the woman working there Sunday January 7th. This was a great place for crab. It is a market so you do have to take things home, but 2 crabs and 2 quarts of clam chowder was plenty for a family of 4. The clam chowder was delicious and chock full of clams and also super creamy. The crab was delicious ($12/lb) and was obviously fresh since it had no fishy taste at all. The woman working there was nice and friendly and showed us the 2 quart deal as well as cleaned our crabs for us. Our total was about $55 which may be pricy, but is cheaper than all separate meals out for 4 and the quality of the seafood was evident. read more

Let's face it, everything is better with bacon. The young lady of took my order was very helpful, but the lady behind her on the computer looked me up and down and didn't say a word. She claimed once I've had it, I will join the ranks of folks who order it online from all over the world. I went back the next day and bought another quart. I then went down to a local groceries store and bought a fresh baguette. Then I combined the two for a very memorable meal. Today I extended my campsite stay another 3 days so I can buy more. I can't get this exquisite quality in Colorado! The Krab Kettle is right on the Pacific coast. They buy their clams locally, fresh, daily, for cheap. They've been making clam chowder for eons, and have it down. They don't hold back on the clam. They don't have to. Oh, the freshness! The flavors! It's really a chowder made from the sea! Try it! And buy some canned albacore tuna while you're there, I suppose. While staying in a vacation rental ten miles up highway 101 we stopped in to the Krab Kettle to buy a quart of clam chowder to take back to the house. Dinner that evening consisted of a loaf of crusty sourdough, a bottle of chardonnay and the best clam chowder we had ever eaten. Is this Heaven? No, it's Oregon. We have sampled chowders from coast to coast. We even make our own when we can get fresh clams in Phoenix but this one tops them all. It is thick and creamy with just the right amount of perfectly cooked potatoes and it is absolutely loaded with large chunks of tender clams. I had a chunk in just about every spoonful. Delicious! In addition to chowder the Krab Kettle sells the freshest fish, dungeness crab, oysters and clams, among other things. This small seafood shop is truly a gem on the Oregon coast. If only they had a website and a means to ship their wonderfully fresh seafood. Guess we'll just have to move there. read more
