I had a frustrating experience at this Safeway due entirely to an employee's attitude and refusal to help. I waited at the self-checkout for about 10 minutes just to turn in a can deposit ticket. When nothing happened, I went to a regular checkout instead. The cashier, an older woman named Sue, was immediately rude and dismissive. When I tried to hand her the ticket, she told me I had to go back to self-checkout and wait, claiming it was "not possible" to give me the money from her register. That's simply not true--I've turned in can deposit tickets at this exact Safeway through regular checkout multiple times before. Instead of helping or explaining calmly, she talked down to me and made the situation unnecessarily difficult. Policies don't excuse disrespect, and misinformation definitely doesn't help customers. This interaction wasted my time and guaranteed I won't be seeking help from that employee again.. I don't understand why people hire Rude individuals. read more

This Store Has computer ISSUES alot! I have a Safeway Account number, and many many times I go online an CLICK the digital coupons, Lo and Behold, once I purchase items get home and check receipt SEVERAL OF THE CLIPPED DIGITAL COUPONS HAVE NOT BEEN APPLIED!!!! Then I have to go in the store with a copy of MYLIST off my Safeway acct and PROVE to them that I did have clipped coupons! Then on 4/6/25 I purchased items, put my phone number in at check out and hit CONFIRM button, get home and I didn't' Get credit for any reward points NOR any digital coupons ( Value $30!!) I had to call 3 times their 800# and still DO NOT HAVE THE $30 that was promised me by phone , back on my account! I have been told 3 times it only takes 24hrs! Guess what, each time I call I have to GO THRU THE ENTIRE STORY AGAIN AND BE PLACED ON HOLD..... RIDICULOUS! Decent Safeway location. Seem to have a nice selection and well stocked shelves. I used self checkout, so I can't comment on the staff. Everything worked properly. They had what I needed, and I was in and out quickly. My only complaint is that it was extremely cold inside. They have great weekly sales when you use your club card. Would recommend. read more

The worst Safeway ever. Went to get some bread and I was in line with only two registers open for 15 minutes with 10 other customers. I watched the lady at the register socialize with each customer and look through their coupon ad for specials. They acted like there was no line. Even the manger was watching. I'm all for being nice and give great customer advice but that was too much. Everyone in line was complaining. I left and went to Fred Meyer's down the street and I was in and out in 5 minutes. This is my favorite Supermarket in Florence. I am a Senior and I get a lot of my groceries delivered and I am so very happy with the service. They go out of their way to make sure my order is correct and the fruits and vegetables are fresh. And when I visit the store, they are friendly and helpful. And I love the organic section in the produce department, the bakery, the deli, and the plant-based meat section. Keep up the good work Safeway. read more

There isn't anything particularly good or bad about this Safeway, other than it was extremely busy and a different design than many other Safeways I've been in. This store has a Starbucks, and they're taking the social distancing to the Nth degree with one way in and one way out of the store. I personally like the Coos Bay and North Bend stores more, but this works. read more

I went into the Florence Safeway to pick up food at the deli and go through the self checkout. Most of them were broken. The employee monitoring the self checkout was helping a woman with over 25 items (15 are allowed) without coupons but the Safeway employee, Laura pulled out the coupon listings and proceeded to help this rude woman find discounts while at least 10 people waited to use the self checkout. After about 10 minutes I was finally able to use the checkout. Laura, the Safeway employee came up to me and told me I needed to be more patient. She was menacing and rude. I told her I was handicapped and cannot stand long. She then grabbed my groceries and took my credit card out of the machine and told me to go to the cashier's line. I left the store without my groceries but did get my card back. I will never shop Safeway again. I honestly thought this employee would even get physical. Very upsetting. read more

Very friendly and helpful employees at the Safeway gas station, market and Starbucks. It gets crowded at Safeway and Starbucks. If there is one worker in Starbucks, please be patient. (It's good if you are not in a hurry.) For market shopping, look for sales for the week and use your Safeway card to get the best deal and discounts. ( To become a member, you just need a cell number or or get a Safeway member #.) Then use your Safeway card number when buying Safeway gas to additional savings! When we went we got .30 cents off each gallon ( I don't know how that gas savings program works.) read more

Terrible customer service. Drive up and go is a mess. I use drive up and go to avoid COVID flu and rsv exposure since I care for my critically I'll brother in law. I put on a mask and showed 4 digit order code to delivery person. He asked for my name. Answering required I open the window and or remove my mask. I explained that I had used drive up and go many many times and was not asked for my name although I doubt he heard me. He took my order back in the store. Ridiculous. read more

service at Safeway Florence it is terrible. Third instance of poor service from drive up and go and store management. I placed order that included a Turkey. Price charged was regular price 1 dollar per pound more than coupon price. When I called to correct I was told I needed to call customer service. I couldn't be transferred so I called back only to be told I needed to call drive up and go customer service. When I called to ask to have the order cancelled I was on the phone for over 10 minutes and the order is still pending. At one point the local drive up and go manager hung up on me. What a mess. What a waste of time. Store management explains problem is not in their control have new employees etc. poor customer service and poor attitude. Find a different store. read more

In response to Debra L. I have lived in Florence for 25 years and there was no Safeway when I moved here. Since Safeway arrived in town it has upgraded the interior and exterior to spruce it up a bit. Although the produce has never been up to the quality we like it is guaranteed to the point that if you return it you get your money back and a free replacement. The meat department is high quality with the same guarantee of return it for a refund and replacement. The managers are tuned in to the customers. Recent cosmetic upgrades make the store inviting. A shopper may choose another store to be the favorite. We are neutral. After reading your review I find it unbelievable that your claim of shopping at the Florence Safeway began forty-five years ago. Just purchased Chinese food from the hot deli. The service was awful. The attendant named Julie had a difficult time using complete sentences and didn't seem capable of moving at a normal speed. Took nearly 8 minutes for her to serve one easy customer, then asked him to use self service checkout instead of ringing him up... while he was standing in front of her register. The food itself was really really bad. I don't have high expectations. I've eaten hospital food, gas station food, convenience store food, military food, etc. I know what to expect when buying food from a hot deli. This stuff from safeway... was really really lousy. Then fried rice was flavorless, but still the highlight on the plate. The Mongolian beef appeared to be sitting in a 1/2 cup of straight vegetable oil. And the "spicy" peppers were completely flavorless. The general tsaos chicken was even yucky. By far, the number one worst hot deli food I've ever had. I'm not a fan of Safeway in general, and this store is one of the worst. I've only found one other one that is on par with being this terrible. I've always wanted to like this store, and it's always failed miserably. Even if the Starbucks inside was great, my rating would be higher and I would like this store. Sadly, even that is a disappointment. The customer service in this store is beyond horrible. I'm never impressed, as it always feels like the employees hate their jobs and it shows. I was here the other evening, and I had a cranky old guy (I didn't catch his name) as my cashier. I simply ran in for a soda and to use the bathroom before heading home from a long day of golfing. My total came to like $4.08. I handed him a $5 and then counted out 8 cents, so he could just give me a dollar bill back, instead of having to count out 92 cents. I told him what I was doing as I paid him. He just stared at me, making it seem like I was insanely slow at counting out this small amount of change, and that was more inconvenient than him having to count out 92 cents to give back to me. I really wasn't a fan of his attitude. There was no greeting when my buddy Matt and I went to his register. He just started ringing up the two sodas. No greeting, asking if we found everything, or if we needed anything else, no thanks when it was over. He literally only spoke to me when I paid for the two sodas, and it was only to tell me the total. News flash: customers are the reason you have a job. Don't be an asshole. Don't need any of them to be Chatty Kathy or talkative, but even something as simple as asking if you found everything can go a long way in terms of customer service. The Starbucks employees are just as bad. They are Safeway employees serving Starbucks products. It's just a fake Starbucks, basically. If you have coupons or anything promotional from the Starbucks app, you can't use them here. Or at least that's what I've been told by the employees. I have to go to a quote real Starbucks to use these things. Not sure if that's actually true, or they simply didn't want to deal with it. The bigger problem with this portion of the store, isn't the fact the employees are rude and hate their jobs. It's the fact they are slower than turtles while hating their jobs. The store is clean, including the restrooms. Which is literally the only positive thing I can say about this store. But it's not a store I plan to return to anytime soon. I'd much prefer to go to Fred Meyer. Safeway and Fred Meyer are THE definition of polar opposite in terms of customer service. The one thing this store has going for it is the customers. I actually enjoyed chatting with a couple of them yesterday while being bored in a slow line. How sad is that? The customers are what made this experience moderately positive. 50% of their employees treat you, the customer, as though you are one of the many homeless people that litter their entrance I But their deli,in particular their fried chicken is very tasty! Cindy in the pharmacy is absolutely horrific. I trying to give her my name and DOB for my prescription and she couldn't hear me so she started getting annoyed and impatient. After multiple failed attempts of trying to tell her I had to raise my voice louder than I'd prefer when giving someone personal information like that. Way to assure your customers' privacy! I've had my identity stolen twice so having to give this information loudly is less than ideal. After she finally got it I said it would be helpful to keep sticky notes or something so customers can write that information down and her response was "we'd have sticky notes all over the place if we did that." I legitimately thought she was going to say "We can hand you a piece of receipt paper to write it down" or something. Instead she was rude. She then told me she's been a pharmacy tech for 16 years and she's never had anyone "make that complaint." First off, it wasn't a complaint. Second, why would you have sticky notes all over the place if not a single person in 16 years has ever asked you for one? Seriously is this attitude necessary? I finally said "I just want to bring it to your attention that you come across as less than friendly." She said exasperatingly said "well!" That was it. She then yelled that she was not going to apologize to me and when I said I was willing to let this all go but once you start yelling at me I have to tell someone so they can make sure you don't yell at other customers. Her response was "You call whoever you want! When you stand here waiting on customers all day then you can tell me how to do my job!!" Suggesting you keep sticky notes nearby is "telling you how to do your job?" Seriously? At this point people walking by stopped because they were trying to figure out why someone was yelling. I finally just walked away and she CONTINUED to yell at me as I was walking down the aisle. People standing in the aisle were looking back and forth between her and me to try to figure out what the hell was going on. This woman is incredibly rude and unprofessional. If I walk in and she's working, I leave and come back later just to avoid having to speak to her ever again. If that's the way Safeway wants their customers to feel, then mission accomplished. If management reads this I would encourage them to ask Cindy how long she has been a pharmacy tech. If she says 16 years then there is only one way I would even know that. read more

On 7/20/2021 at 6:15pm I was embarrassed for the clerk (Tanisha) who was not helpful or engaged when checking out an older gentleman who was confused while buying a single item. When she was asked if the item was on sale she shrugged and yawned multiple times. Customers stepped in to assist and she did not. The man had only $5 and the item regular price was nearly $6. On sale it was $3.99. When confronted she was non responsive and disinterested. She clearly needs a non customer facing job. As a former executive, I would terminate her for cause on the spot. To not enforces the behavior. We also overheard another, 60ish year old employee in uniform respond to a customer with "I'm not here" when asked a question. She walked away from the customer with out answering the question. Where is management? What are the expectations for delivering a good customer experience? This behavior is a cultural issue and starts at the top. You have choice in Florence. I suggest a short trip north to Fred Meyer would provide a more customer friendly experience. read more

My husband is Hispanic and I am Spanish but of much lighter skin tone. My husband was hovered over everywhere he went in the store and the person at self checkout hovered over us like a helicopter as we were checking out. It's 2018, cut the racism and profiling. No one else in the store was being followed like he was. No one else at self checkout was being watched as if they were criminals... just the only brown man who is in the store. Always clean inside. Fairly well stocked. The meat and seafood department have always impressed me. They seem to go out of their way to help you, even for just a question. Always take the time to cut or grind for me. Kuddos!!! One area needs constant attention though; and that is the recycling area. Most of the time smelly and dirty. That's the she-bully who used to get pissed and threaten to beat up other girls. Making the delicious breakfast sandwiches? That's the girl I'm friends with on facebook but never once spoke to during our three years wandering the halls of Siuslaw High. I don't know her, but I know she has a couple kids and overshares in her status updates. Yep, this grocery store is a great place to make eye contact and awkwardly break away. I'm a frequent visitor to Safeway. Being a business owner here in Florence, I use them daily. The bakery staff is AMAZING. The bread guys do special orders for me all week. We design different style bread, it comes out great. Yesterday I picked up a cake from the ladies in the bakery dept, Absolutely gorgeous. These ladies are artists! Not many people know this Safeway bakes their own daily bread, cakes and pastries. Im a very satisfied customer and the bakery staff needs a pat on the back for a job well done. read more

Like any place else, they have their set of problems. They frequently don't have items they advertise, but are great at either giving a raincheck, or subbing a different item. They do have a couple of horrible employees...rude, won't help you ,act put out ...but over all , they have a very friendly very helpful group. I think the biggest problem this store has is the extremely rude, disrespectful ,self entitled visitors that mob through on weekends and holidays. I've never seen staff be rude or disrespectful back , when what they should do is leap over that counter and punch then in the throat! How they maintain their professionalism is beyond me. . . Pretty much everyone I have encountered here are genuinely nice. They always ask if you need help and mean it. I can't remember the last time I went in to a Safeway and had 3 different people ask me. So sweet! The butcher is knowledgeable and enlightened us with some of his antedotes and cracked some jokes with us. The cashier even tried to pronounce our last names, but butchered it a little. Hey! He deserves some credit. AND he remembered us when we came back the next day and pronounced it correctly the second time! Impressive! When we were there this past weekend, they were having an awesome wine sale! Most wines were 30% off AND if you bought 6 wines, you got an extra 10% off. SCORE! Prices are substantially higher on most items across the board than the main competition here in town. You have to put out extra effort to get a reasonable deal at Safeway. They do have sales, but sometimes there's strings attached or they "forget" to ring them up at the register. Happens a lot to me. read more

The worst Safeway I have ever been to and I've lived in many places! Most employees I have encountered have been the least helpful folks I have ever run into. They are rude and you can never find one that wants to help you find anything. Add to that the much higher prices than the store at the other end of town and sale items that are usually not on the shelf and you have a highly unpleasant experience !! Safeway is great. Very busy in this coastal town. We shop there regularly with none of the mentioned problems below. There are longer waits at times like any place else. Especially on nice weekends and holidays. We are a tourist community after all. Their groceries are fine employee's are courteous. Safeway has $500 Friday's and the fried chicken really used to be good at this Florence, Oregon store. The last several times we got it was not very good and yesterday was absolutely horrible. They are not changing the oil and we took a couple of bits and thrue it all in the trash. That said the Safeway store in Coos Bay is fantastic they change the oil and the chicken is fresh juicy and crispy. The new deli manager needs some training on when to change the fryer oil. Never going back to Florence Oregon safeway. prices are climbing , employees were rude in deli and check out clerk refused to acknowledge me even after I said hello to him directly, then conveyor was not released and chewed up a expensive birthday card. No apologies or offer to replace it.this was a second chance I gave them each time I spent almost 300$ so they have lost 5 to 6 hundred dollars from me a month.that is almost 6000 $ a year.
