Benefit of the doubt, we came in on an off day, but really not keen on coming back. My friend and I were on our way out of town after the weekend and stopped in for coffee and a snack for the road. It was a Sunday in August around 9am, and the line was out the door. A good sign! we thought, as the place is evidently popular. The girls working behind the counter were clearly overwhelmed, and two in particular were complaining loudly to one another, and I overheard the barista make a pretty rude comment to a regular (she knew him by name). Pastries didn't look too impressive to us (either pre-packaged or too sugary), so we ordered our coffees and then perused the broad selection of wares for sale, a mishmash of tea towels and journals and weird religious art, amongst other things. It took about a half hour for us to get our beverages (a honey latte and an iced latte with oat milk) from the time we arrived, and they were really not worth it. Neither of us finished our coffees and instead endured our ride back to Seattle mostly sans caffeine. Quite disappointing. read more

River Roasters was one of the few spots that had extended hours for Fourth of July so we decided to get some drinks around 8pm before watching the fireworks in downtown Florence! The place was packed and we waited in line to order for about 10-15 minutes. I got the mango smoothie with whipped cream and my friend got peppermint tea. Mango smoothie (3.5/5): Good portion size. The smoothie was very sweet and it had a watery consistency - tasted more like mango juice rather than a smoothie. I think a prepackaged mango base was used instead of fresh fruit which was understandable considering how crowded the store was. Still enjoyed it! Friend liked her peppermint tea! Although the smoothie didn't taste very fresh, it satisfied my sweet craving for the night. Thank you River Roasters for staying open late for Fourth of July! read more

I don't normally write negative review if ever, but my experience at River Roasters this weekend was disappointing enough that I feel it's warranted. Florence is home to me. I've lived there on and off since I was 18, and stopping at River Roasters has become a tradition whenever I'm in town. I love the coffee, the cozy coastal atmosphere, and sitting outside with my children for our annual photo. For years, I've recommended this shop to anyone visiting Florence. This weekend, I ordered five drinks, spent quite a bit of money, and left a generous tip. While waiting, I realized one of the drinks was supposed to be iced instead of hot. I politely apologized and asked if it could be changed. The employee immediately huffed, gave me a dirty look, rolled her eyes at her coworker, and made it very clear that my request was an inconvenience. I was honestly shocked!! I even told her that if it was too much trouble, I would take the drink as it was, but she completely ignored me. When she finished remaking it, she pushed it toward me without saying anything. As a manager now myself, and a previous business owner in Florence, I understand that people get busy, overwhelmed, and frustrated, especially when there's a line out the door. But when you work with the public, customers should still be treated with basic kindness and respect. If you're annoyed, step away and collect yourself. Rolling your eyes, huffing, and being openly rude to someone over a simple drink correction is unacceptable. To make the situation worse, as my family and I were leaving, the employees loudly called out, "Have a great day!" in an obviously sarcastic and passive-aggressive tone. A genuine "Have a great day" should be offered to every customer not used to mock someone on their way out. What makes this especially sad is that River Roasters wasn't just another coffee shop to me. It was part of our family tradition and a place I have supported and recommended for years. Unfortunately, after this experience, I won't be returning. There is another coffee shop down the road, and that is where we'll begin making new memories. I genuinely hope the owner sees this and takes the customer service concerns seriously. Good coffee may bring people through the door, but the way customers are treated determines whether they come back. And quite honestly, if you cannot be kind to the public while providing a service, then perhaps working directly with customers is not the right job for you. read more

What a cute little area with shops and restaurants surrounding this coffee shop! There's a lovely patio with a beautiful view of the river. When we walked in, we expected just a regular coffee shop, but it was much more than that. Inside, there were charming little knickknacks to browse or buy, adding a unique touch to the experience. My husband had the blended mocha while I ordered the white chocolate mocha with espresso whipped cream on top, which was delicious. Just a heads-up, the indoor area isn't pet-friendly, but there are two small tables out front where you could probably sit with your dog if needed. Will definitely come back! read more

This is hands down one of my favorite coffee shops I've visited while on vacation. I'm from Seattle, so I've definitely had my fair share of great coffee spots, and this place absolutely compares. The shop has a beautiful river view and also offers really cute boutique-style gift items for purchase, which added to the overall charm. I came here twice a day during my trip, and every afternoon I treated myself to an iced mocha and they honestly have the best iced mocha I've ever had from a coffee shop. To top it all off, they make their own homemade whipped cream, which was amazing. I only had a couple minor issues during my visits. One time, the barista seemed a little distracted and left the espresso shot sitting on top of the milk a bit too long, so it tasted slightly burnt. It was still enjoyable though. Another small thing was that one of the employees who rang me up a few times wasn't especially friendly. Neither issue was enough to dock any stars because overall this place was wonderful. Discovered this place within walking distance from our hotel. It's definitely a local favorite , where the staff know the regulars name. Inside it's warm with a wood burning stove and giant windows to look out on the water . We even saw sea otters one morning . The coffee is great and they have a little shopping area as well. With a comfortable fireplaces seating inside seating area we still head to the river side deck for coffee with the herons, egrets, cormorants and others. We got up early to get our morning coffee. It makes a difference when you're staying downtown. A half a block walk and we were at River Roasters. It's one of the shops we love the most here in Florence. There is no shortage of cute keep sakes, plenty of things you "need " and don't need but buy anyway. Those who serve you are always kind and very hospitable. We order a Slider - Mocha w. Vanilla Vanilla and Vanilla latte. Both drinks were hot and well made perfect blending. You can leave without grabbing something to eat. We bought a walnut apple fritter and a classic maple bar. We walked home and popped them in the microwave. Heated they were fantastic down to their very last bites. Love the home town feel when you hang out at River Roasters. Do yourself a favor and get down here and enjoy all the special things they have. A bonus: when I opened my Yelp app at the shop a coupon popped up for $1 off any specialty coffee. I stopped by the roasters this afternoon. I was by myself and there was no one else in line. The server came to the front and said she would be right with me and walked away. I turned around and was looking at some other merchandise on the another customer came in and the server immediately took her order and got her while I still waited. The server my order and I paid for my drink and went to the area to wait. As I was standing there waiting, a gentleman walked in and apparently did not order anything, but stood there and talked with the server for several minutes as I waited. Finally, when he left, she turned and looked at me and then proceeded to get my drink for me. I thought she was very rude, and I have never been treated this way in this establishment before I won't be going back even though I'm a local and have recommended this place to my looking back.
