Coming here was the best idea we've had this week. When we first got there the waiting area was FULL, but not more than ten minutes and we were happily sitting at our take awaiting service. The waiter was fast and very attentive. The atmosphere was fun; we could hear the applauds and laughter coming from the Teppan area, noisy but not annoying. It was busy. Then the best thing happened. We got our food. Delicious, delightful, tasteful, flavorful, ... YUMMY. We recommend the Playboy roll and Dynamite roll. The latter looks very interesting when it arrives at your table but trust! My opinion on this restaurant is just average, the food is okay and over priced. This is not my first choice for Japanese food. Hamachi grill is over seasoned (too salty for my taste). I had an experience there once for a office holiday party, and the waiter misinformed me on my check, he did not give me the discount. First of all, we love sushi but El Paso often disappoints. We actually stopped at another sushi restaurant before this one and they wouldn't serve just sashimi and looked at us like we were crazy. So we went to Koze and sat at the sushi bar. We often do this cause it's nice to talk to the sushi chef and you often get some freebies. I got the sashimi platter, which let me tell you is about the best deal for sashimi I've had. 24 pieces for about $22. Great deal. The fish was really good, especially the Hawaiian tuna. The salmon was not the best but all the other fish was good. This place also has shiso leaves which my half Japanese wife tells me is rare and lots of sushi places don't have it. I would recommend this place. We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't as crowded as I expected. We did have reservations , we waited maybe 5 mins to be seated which was not bad at all. Pretty good sushi. Service and the atmosphere were really nice and the price was surprisingly good. Not the best sushi in El Paso and not the best sushi I've had by far, but then again, I'm from Japan so I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to sushi. We ordered shumai, avocado rolls, a few nigiri sushi (eel, tuna and squid), the kamikaze roll and deep fried ice cream. The avocado roll, while not Japanese, was really good. Great sauce! The eel and tuna was pretty good but the squid was mediocre. The kamikaze roll was not really my thing; it was recommended to me so I tried it but cream cheese in sushi doesn't work so well in my opinion. The ice cream at the end was huge and very satisfying. The food is good, but the service was horrible. First, we ordered two sushi appetizers and they both came at different times, one after the entree was brought to the table. Secondly, we ordered the steak and shrimp entree to share, but we had to purchase the extra fried rice as specified in the menu for $5.95, but when we got the bill, it was $7.99. When we inquired about the discrepancy, the waiter said the menu has changed, but the new price was not on the menu and the waiter did not bother to tell us. Thirdly, the entree was brought to the table without first bringing the soup and salad. We asked the waiter and the response was "Do you still want the soup and salad" in an obnoxious manner. Finally, the bill automatically included 18% tip. We asked the waiter about the tip and the response was "18% tip for four or more people." Usually the automatic tip is for larger parties (i.e., more than 10 or more people). This whole experience was confusing and it seemed they just want to overcharge you. read more

This used to be the restaurant where I got what I paid for, not anymore. I was here a week ago and I do not want to be disrespectful to my chef but my food was horribly undercooked. The rice was bland and even though I brought it up to the lady managers attention, she offered to fix it but the food just does not taste the same after they put it back on a grill in the back. $80 for two people would've been worth it if the flavor was there, I've never had an issue paying here because it used to be so delicious. Tonight we sat at the dinning area for the first time and it was the last time I dine here. $190 with a $27 tip included for service that didn't deserve that. I asked for my steak well done and it was hard to chew, way over-cooked. Didn't bother to bring it up the gentleman who I assumed was the manager since he didn't seem to be worried about the service or anything else for that matter. Before choosing our table we asked him if it was exactly the same to sit at the dining tables as on the grill, since he told us we would just be missing out on the show we thought it was no big deal to sit here. I think he's not aware that you get about half the portions of rice, vegetables and you get 90% onion, with 2-4 pieces of broccoli or carrots. I bring up the prices because you are not getting what you pay for anymore. I still highly recommend their sushi because it's always amazing. It's never failed me. But I definitely won't be back, you could get a way better service elsewhere. read more

Ok, food was good. But for $26 I got 5 pieces of chicken and 6 pieces of steak. I literally couldn't believe the small portion. I knew the price but was willing to pay it to try since there was such good reviews. I just didn't realize how stingy they were. I've never received so little from any other hibachi place - there was even less rice. And it still cost $26 just for the plate. It tasted good, service was nice, it was warm inside but whatever. Koze is one of my favorite restaurants but today that changed. Towards the end of our lunch, my husband and I were asked to leave because the next party was coming in. I felt that that was very rude. The cook took about 30 minutes to begin with. I think it was very unreasonable of them since there were other grills available. My wife & I have been looking for a good sushi place in El Paso since we've moved here from Houston. We stopped by because of the good Yelp reviews. Walking in, we were greated with a very warm & friendly smile.The place was quite busy and there was quite a lively vibe & energy for a tuesday night. The decor is modern and well-kept. There were several large parties so there was a little wait for our sushi which was understandable. Our server Megan was very cool & took great care of us. The sushi tasted fresh & awesome. We took a chance with the Pretty Boy roll and it was a hit - great combination of texture and flavor. This place has been the best restaurant that we've been to so far and will definitely return to try their uni - they didn't have any that night but were getting more the next day. read more

Excellent food. Amazing service. Many options and I love how they serve only the best of the best ingredients with their food including organic grass fed beef. I came here today for my birthday and the experience was amazing. Our waitress was an absolute doll and made us feel very welcomed. Our meals started with a bowl of delicious and light vegetable soup and house salad served with super tasty housemade ginger dressing. Our chef was Eko and he was very nice worked with a smile and very talented! The kamikaze sushi was super tasty. I tried the entrées with chicken, tofu and calamari and they are all equally delicious. Love the cool relaxing interior design of this restaurant. Great for date night. I really really enjoy this place. The food is the bomb.com. It is a little pricey but it's such a fun experience to have with your friends or family. I only recommend eating at the chefs station for that awesome experience. Valentine's Dinner review! My boyfriend and I did not plan ahead for Valentine's Day and decided to come here for our dinner after searching Yelp! We both had business until about 9pm so we needed to find somewhere that was open late. I called at about 8pm and they let me know they didn't close until 10pm.. score! We arrived at about 9pm and walked into a full waiting area, with at least a dozen other couples. The Place was packed! The hostess let us know we could wait for the hibachi grill or be seated immediately at a table- we opted for the table since we figured the wait for the hibachi wasn't worth eating super late. So we were seated at a little table right in front of the sushi bar, all within three minutes of walking in. Our server (can't remember her name, super short cute hair) was quick to come by and greet us, take our order and recommend a few drinks, sushi rolls, and explain the dinner special. We ended up ordering the Sticky Gyoza, the Playboy (sushi roll), and the dinner special for 2: calamari, miso soup, ginger salad, and a NY steak and grilled salmon, served with roasted chile and baby spinach respectively. We ordered the Sticky Gyoza on accident, miscommunication since we wanted the original, but it was a delicious mistake! The Gyoza were fried with melted cheese and topped with a delicious Sticky sauce, it ended up being my partner's favorite. The miso soup and ginger salad were standard, and the calamari had that great freshly fried crunch. The NY steak was delicious, though undercooked, which they fixed promptly. The grilled salmon was delicious, and both had a teriyaki sauce/glaze that definitely complimented the flavor. I believe their menu stated that the steaks were all natural, grass fed beef, and the seafood seemed to be very fresh quality. Only thing I was unhappy about was the extra +$2 up charge (each) for switching each side dish for the entrées since they were originally served with sweet potato fries. I understand that substitutions may incur an additional charge, but $+2 extra for maybe less than an ounce/a tablespoon of roasted chile and spinach is not worth it. I recommend that if they offer another special again, to at least offer a secondary side choice option to choose from, like a vegetable dish for those who do not care for fries or sweet potatoes. Or to at least proportion sides to justify a $2 up charge. Dessert was a white chocolate crème brûlée with a berry compote. Delicious! We loved it saved for the burned sugar. I understand that crème brûlée calls for that caramel sugar layer but it tasted very burnt, and very bitter, like they had the torch on it for too long. It didn't serve the white chocolate or berry compote very well. All in all, we will probably return seeing as how the food, atmosphere, and service was outstanding. We left an hour later and they were still seating people at the hibachi for dinner (around 10pm). The decor, lighting, and overall feel of the restaurant felt upscale, and the menu reflected that. read more

A family member wanted to post this review, but since I was more involved I thought I should be the one, if anyone, to write about the experience. I'm hardly on the east side, but when I saw Koze off the freeway I called my family to see if they wanted me to take some sushi back home to the northeast 45 minutes away. We were familiar with the west side location and thought we could hold it to the same standard, but were proved to be wrong. Once I returned home my family noticed a hair in one of the boxes with two sushi rolls. They immediately were turned off-as anyone would be... I don't think anyone orders sushi with a side of hair- and told me to go get something else. When I left, I called Koze and asked to speak with the manager to explain the situation. Long story short and after phone calls back and forth I never spoke with the manager and they just agreed to pay me back for one roll. I'm sure the food can be just as good as their west location, but the lack of customer service and basically treating me like I was a liar to protect themselves really pushed me to leave a review. Not everyone in El Paso wants or needs a handout and I was disappointed to be treated that way. I will also post the picture that Koze asked me not to post even when they treated me as a dishonest person. By the way... I am from El Paso and I want El Paso businesses to succeed. I want this city to grow, but people and customer service has to change and without a better mindset we will never be able to compete with other bigger cities. read more

Sushi is very tasty and well made! Teppan chef was super nice and funny. We enjoyed the ambiance and the food. The server was extremely under educated on the menu, and when asked questions she just answered "I don't know I'm new" its ok to be new, just go ask someone who knows and answer the question. we ordered tea and it looked like water and she said she would brew another batch. Later in the meal she brought us more glasses of tea and it was completely bitter and not in any way drinkable. We told her we couldn't drink it but we just wanted water. At the end of our meal we received the salads that came with our meal. Soups and salads are supposed to come first and we were still charged for the tea which we couldn't drink. 4 stars for the delicious food and friendly Teppan grill chef. 1 star for the terrible waitress who didn't even try to answer our questions correctly and still charged us for the tea that was not made correctly. read more

I am excited to announce that we are finally beginning to see and enjoy new restaurants in the Eastside. My husband and I met family and friends at Koze Teppan Grill East. After reading reviews online that it was best to make reservations and we did. Once we arrived, the place was full of customers, I was certainly excited to have made a reservation. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated and the hostess was extremely accommodating and friendly. After they seated us at the Teppan grill, we were greeted by a nice and helpful waitress. We ordered a black dragon roll and it was absolutely delicious. The roll was filled with crab mix, cucumber, and avocado and topped with eel and drizzled with yummy eel sauce and a spicy siracha mayo. Finger slicking good! Shortly after the waitress took our order for the grill, followed by a flavorful cup of miso soup and a crispy and fresh salad dressed with ginger dressing. Shortly after our grill chef arrive. This is the point that I include some constructive criticisms, maybe our chef had a long day and night but for a teppan grill restaurant, he was not engaging with the people at our table. Now, I have been to other teppan grills, so I know what's it is like. But if there was newbies at our table, this would not have been a great table to be at. Ultimately, the chef did his job and cooked a terrific meal for all at the table. My overall experience was positive and great, I am all smiles to have experienced this new hot spot in the far Eastside! read more
