Packed place on a Saturday night! Tropical decor and atmosphere enjoyable. We were seated quick by pleasant hostess and friendly waiter came over right away. Food was delicious! This was my husbands first time. His favorite dish is typically general gao chicken. It was good last time but could have used more spice. We got it anyway to see if it was better but it was the same. Pu pu platter was excellent w our favorite being the spare ribs that fell off the bone so tender! Rangoons delicious w plenty of filling and chicken fingers yummy. Very light batter and tender chicken. The Saugus wings were great and unique. Would have liked a bit more crispy but sauce was so good. The fried ice cream was good as well and plenty for 2 to share. Another great experience, food service enjoyable time.

My 2nd stop to fulfill my wishes was to stop at Kowloon & order bone in ribs & sliced pork strips. These two items are now virtually non existent in the world of Chinese restaurants. Today was my lucky day. Bone in spareribs was everywhere when I was growing up then poof all you can find everywhere are boneless ribs. The same is true for pork strips. Lovin you Kowloon for fulfilling my childhood foodie dreams. My every trip to Boston in the future now has a stop at Kowloon scratched in my brain.

Our server was so funny! Attentive and I pray some day he gets to open up his own restaurant, "Ming Dynasty" but until that day, Kowloon's has a great server with an awesome personality and great customer service skills A+ the deco also A+. Almost as I remember from when I was a teenager. Loved it. So nice to see not much has changed. The hot tea was very tasty, and appreciated. The egg roll was perfect!! Very much old school Chinese food, loved them. The chicken fingers were equally yummy. Perfectly golden fried and the pork ends I live out Western part of the state, on the cusp of Dinosaur land. No one. Has pork ends. I wish I could have eaten more. Sadly I didn't care for my chicken subgum chow mein. It was loaded with chunky celery, and more celery. The chicken was chopped into small pieces and I'm pretty sure it was dark meat, I'm just not Personally a fan of.

I ordered shrimp fried rice as well as all the food in pics but I started eating before I took pics. The rice was nice and fresh the shrimp was fresh as well. The chicken wings and fingers was good with some sriracha sauce brang the flavor right out. Both the spring and egg rolls was amazing as well. The beef nuggets and teriyaki was on point. My uncle didn't eat his vegetable fried rice so I can't speak about that at this time. The waiter Chris was very good at his job he was our personal waiter this evening. He normally only works on Sunday but because of the 75th anniversary show we had here this evening. This restaurant has a real Asian ambiance here this is definitely worth stopping in here to eat Chinese food. P.S. The shrimp fried rice I had to take another order to go home with. They only have large orders of food here.

Wanting to try this place since it is constantly advertised about how they are going to eventually shut down because the land was sold some time ago. We didn't have time for a dine in so we picked up to go. We got Scallion Pie, Crab Rangoon (8), Peking Ravioli, Kung Pao Chicken, Lo mein shrimp and pork. In general, there was really nothing to write home about for this Chinese American food. The dishes require the expectation of duck sauce to improve the flavor of their dishes. Considering this is not exactly around the corner, I would not go out of my way to come here again, considering there are plenty of other Chinese American places to order from. All equal equally expensive as the other.

Loved it!! Ambiance is awesome and the place is HUGE, so the wait won't be too long (we had a party of 8 on a weekend and sat right away!). The food isn't anything to necessarily write home about, but it's pretty good and I enjoyed everything we got. Lo mein was a bit bean sprout heavy for my taste. You really go for the vibes and cheap drinks! Will return.

A Northshore staple, located right on Route 1 in Saugus. They offer quite a large menu and their food is pretty good. The inside is a vibe as well, multiple dining rooms and a cocktail lounge featuring a full dining experience. Drinks are tasty as well. Food comes out quick and I've never waited for a table here despite it being always busy. They also host many events, I've never been but they look fun.

I don't love Kowloon for its food. Quite frankly, the food is just okay and somewhat overpriced. But I love Kowloon for what it is. An over-the-top, tropical-themed, absolutely ginormous 1200-person restaurant that is a relic of yesteryear. I go for the experience and I love every moment of its quirkiness. I will be truly saddened when it is torn down, potentially later this year. While I know there's a future Kowloon opening in the new complex... it will just not be the same. I don't think a restaurant quite like this will ever quite exist again. Go experience it before it is gone forever.

Come for the vibe, not the food or service. I was so excited to finally try Kowloon--it's been on my bucket list for a while--so I was really disappointed that the experience fell flat. We ordered quickly when we first sat down, but after that our server vanished and we never saw him again lol. When our food was dropped off, the runner said silverware/plates were on the way... 10 minutes later, still nothing. By the time we flagged someone down for a fork, the food was already cold, which was such a bummer. And respectfully, the food just wasn't good. I asked a different server for teriyaki sauce to make the plain rice a little more exciting, and he told me I'd need to "order it"... from the server I hadn't seen since water was poured. Never got the sauce. By the time our server reappeared, we just asked for the check. Bottom line: the outdoor setup is fun, and bingo night is definitely a vibe--the host was funny and entertaining! But if you're planning to come, eat before you come and stick to drinks and bingo here.

Kowloon is a great time. I try to go here fairly often because they will be tearing it down, and rebuilding but in a smaller space. It's in nostalgic and fun and consistent venue to go. Go with family, go with friends, meet people here, see karaoke, or Play trivia night or music bingo, there is always something going on. It will be messed.. just don't go here strictly for the food. It is nostalgic Chinese/American/Polynesian standard food no surprises..

You don't go to Kowloon just for the food -- and honestly, if you do, that's on you. You come here for the vibe, the nostalgia, and the wonderfully weird mix of decor and energy inside. It's chaotic in the best way. They host shows and events and weddings, so fun!

Some restaurants called themselves experience. And most of them are all exactly the same they're fancy and they have no personality. Kowloon has a personality. The building is 76 years old, they don't make them like this anymore and the whole place is just a vibe and a good time. The food is fine, but you don't go for the food you go for the experience and it's a great experience.

Sweet and Sour Chicken. So good!

But i have to say, after our visit this Friday evening (4/17) we were EXTREMELY disappointed in the service and food. Firstly, our server sat us (party of 5 + baby) and took our order without writing it down. 3 of the people in our party received their meals in a decent amount of time, my wife and I sat their for another 20 minutes waiting for our burgers. I also ordered a side of broccoli as well. We asked the server to check on the status of our other meals. A runner came out maybe 5 minutes later and finally brought out out our burgers. I asked the runner about my broccoli and he said he'd look into it. The server then came out and said, "Oh, I wasn't sure if you still wanted that?" I said to her well, yeah, I did order it. The broccoli came out shortly after. Our burgers were very bland with almost no spice/flavor and undercooked. The fries were salty and soggy. The rest of our party was already done with their meals. By the time we received our burgers, my wife and I had to rush our meals and take some things home. Again, it's a shame because whenever we wanted a low key dinner with good food and service we'd go to K-Pub. After this experience, I dont think we'll be coming back anytime soon.

From the start, the experience shines. The service was excellent: attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming without feeling overbearing. The ambiance carries a really fun New Orleans-inspired flair--lively, energetic, and unique. It sets the tone for something special. I also loved how the blind tasting pushed me out of my comfort zone--I got to try several things for the first time, which is always exciting. The standout dish for me was the kabocha squash bột chiên. The duck tongue was exceptional with the acidic crunchy carrots with a delicious and spicy fish sauce. It truly hit all five senses--tangy, sweet, spicy, savory, and full of umami. It was one of those dishes that just keeps unfolding as you eat it. A close second was the sweet coconut sticky rice with pork floss--honestly incredible. It was so good I found myself scraping and practically drinking every last bit off the plate. Another highlight was trying chilled Portuguese percebes for the first time. Super interesting texture and flavor. While the heavy black pepper lime sauce wasn't my favorite it was something that I'd definitely love to have again. Experiences like that make it easy to see why this place has received so much recognition. That said, there were a few things that held the experience back for me. The music felt a bit off--louder than expected and not quite matching the vibe--but that's something I could look past. The bigger issue was the overall seasoning across the menu. Many of the dishes leaned very salty and rich. By around courses 10-11, I started to hit real flavor fatigue. The biggest miss of the night was the shredded cabbage salad that was presented as a palate cleanser around that same point in the meal. I was genuinely excited for something bright, acidic, and refreshing to reset after all the richness--but instead, it ended up being the saltiest dish of the night, which made it feel like a missed opportunity. The fish sauce or whatever salty component was super over bearing. Dessert followed a similar pattern. While not bad by any means, the two desserts leaned quite sweet, and the final course--a salted caramel mousse--again brought a strong salty note. At that point, I was really hoping for something lighter or more refreshing to close things out. Overall, I think Nightshade is a really cool restaurant with a great vibe and a lot of creativity. I'd definitely recommend it--but personally, I'd suggest going with the 9-course tasting menu instead of the 14. A shorter format would likely keep the experience more balanced and prevent that flavor fatigue. It is also a significant investment--our experience came out to around $800 for the 3 of us--which naturally raises expectations and really the only reason I felt compelled to write such a detailed review. With just a bit more balance, especially incorporating more bright, acidic, or lighter elements throughout the experience, could match the level of creativity and become truly exceptional.
