Our home restoration is still ongoing, so this three-star rating reflects our experience to date and will be updated once the project is complete. We understand that a large insurance restoration is complicated and that not every delay or decision is within the contractor's control. However, our experience has required far more homeowner involvement than it should. We have encountered significant communication, documentation, job-site oversight, and contents-related concerns that have taken considerable time and effort to address. The brightest part of our experience has been Kim Helmick. Kim has been compassionate, responsive, level-headed, and willing to listen when we felt overwhelmed or unsupported. She has genuinely made us feel that someone within the company is advocating for us and working toward a better outcome. Kim's service has been five-star, and without her involvement, this would unquestionably be a one-star review. I had a horrendous fire 7 May from a lithium battery and Kowalski has been wonderful to work with. Starting with Ruben who was on site within an hour, to Star and her crew getting all the contents out and now in cleaning and salvaging phase to Cliff and Logan doing the tear out and cleaning. They have been working in very hot and carcinogenic conditions but always take the time to respond to my questions and keep me in the loop on what is happening. In July 24,2024 we had a fire. We sign construction with them. AS of today December 20,2025 not completed. There are electric issues and they put in a used fire door with a peephole. And then we have tried to work with the project manager on resole issues. With no luck. They put in the wrong sliding door. Even when I send in the contract for the original sliding door. And also had a Dr. note to require to put in the door for medical reason. read more

First of all, I would like to say that the actual work performed on my home was great - I have no issues with the quality of work. What I do have a problem with is their management team. The short story: The SENIOR estimator claims to have never seen the project he was estimating and came up with a price he sent directly to the insurance company (never sent to me) for nearly three times the amount approved by insurance, adding line items for work that wasn't needed or done. The long story: We had a car run into our garage, causing some damage to the interior wall into our house. I filed a claim with my homeowner's insurance and contacted Kowalski to get an estimate to repair a 2' x 3' patch of drywall, 2' of bottom plate and some molding - the damage was not very extensive. They provided a contract to us, based on the approved insurance amount of $3,655 - we promptly signed and returned the contract on 12/5. On 12/11, their senior project estimator sent over a supplement to our claims adjuster, adding over $7,000 to the estimate, bringing the total over $11,000. He never sent this to us, we knew nothing about it. He included items like a portable toilet, permits and fees, and nearly $1,000 to remove and reattach cabinets that my husband removed and reattached. My adjuster had been on PTO so I didn't find out about this supplement until a few weeks later, after the work had already been started, and I questioned it with my claims adjuster. My husband and I are both in the construction industry and knew the repairs were nowhere near the $11,000 Kowalski estimated. Our adjuster sent the Kowalski estimator an email questioning it, which he replied to, defending the amount and stating if our adjuster refuses to pay the amount, he needed to talk to his supervisor. When I chimed into the email chain, requesting a copy of this supplement, letting them know materials were likely around $500, and the gentleman doing the work was here for about four hours on two different days to complete the work, the estimator then replied back that he had done a deep dive on this job and found that the work that needed to be done was a lot less extensive than he originally thought. Here's my problem. This gentleman is an estimator. A SENIOR estimator. How can he possibly come up with an estimate if he claims he never saw the damage?? That seems like very bad business practice. Even one photo of the damage would have told him there's no way it was anywhere close to $11,000. So what is he estimating from? How many other people have signed contracts with them without the estimator seeing the projects? It does seem to me that someone was trying to pull a fast one on our insurance company, got caught and then back peddled. I understand mistakes happen, and supplements to insurance claims are sometimes needed. But to inflate the quote almost three times more than the approved insurance amount and contract we signed, and to say the SENIOR estimator never had eyes on the project he was estimating, in addition to sending everything to my claims adjuster and taking me out of the loop - well that all seems very suspect. If it wasn't an attempt to get more money from our insurance company, then it was extremely bad and sloppy business. Either way, I will not be using Kowalski again. read more

They were at my home within an hour of the phone call that my home had flooded. They were with me every step of the way, Riley Underwood, Elizabeth Lee, Brad Williams...key people who calmed my fears, managed all aspects of the drying out process inside and out. No one should ever have to experience the devastation of a flood/disaster. I just did and now I understand how it turns your life upside down. We engaged Kowalski Construction, recommended by Buckeye Valley Fire District, to board up our home after a fire. My husband, a Fire Captain with the City of Phoenix, and I believed we could trust this company not only to board up our home but also to handle the entire reconstruction process. Initially, our impression was positive, as Brandon Kowalski, along with another fireman working for Kowalski's board up division, personally visited our home and offered comforting assurance. However, as the project unfolded, we were confronted with significant challenges and frustrations that led to a deeply disappointing experience. From the outset, Kowalski Construction encountered difficulties, particularly with their cleaning crew, which experienced multiple turnovers, further delaying the project's commencement. To our dismay, while we were verbally assured that the job would be completed by Thanksgiving 2020, the contract's completion date was inexplicably left blank, leaving room for ambiguity and misunderstandings. Our construction experience quickly turned into a nightmare. The appointed Project Manager proved woefully inefficient in effectively tracking the project's progress. As a result, workers made numerous blunders and mistakes, compelling us, the homeowners, to assume the role of project managers ourselves. Essential aspects of the project, such as luxury cabinets and various installations, remained incomplete, leaving our home in a worse state than before the fire. Despite the fire's challenges, the 'silver lining' emerged as we had the chance to reconstruct our laundry room according to our preferences. However, it is disheartening to observe that the reconstruction remains unfinished, and we find ourselves burdened with the responsibility of covering the expenses. Communication breakdowns within the company further exacerbated our frustrations. To add to the confusion, a 'FINAL BILL' was issued and promptly paid, as we believed it to be accurate and fair at the time. Regrettably, Kowalski Construction later claimed that we owed additional money due to a purported computer glitch in January 2021. Negotiations with a new employee, holding the title of VP, led us to reluctantly agree to an extra $8,000 payment. Much to our surprise, a year later, we received a summons to appear in court over alleged unpaid dues. Despite our earnest attempts to address the issues, we found ourselves on the losing end in court with not one person from Kowalski who stepped foot in our home. The pivotal moment occurred on May 5, 2021, when the Project Manager, who had failed to track the project diligently, sought updates from my husband, who was not fully aware of the project's status either. At this time, we had already received what was labeled as a 'FINAL BILL' and paid it, believing it to be a fair representation of the work completed. Nevertheless, we were never issued full credit for all the items discussed with the Project Manager on that same day he signed the completion paperwork. Our experience with Kowalski Construction was deeply unsatisfactory. The company's failure to fulfill its promises led to substantial delays, unfinished work, and contentious financial disputes. Incompetent project management, inadequate communication, and multiple employee turnovers marred what should have been a seamless reconstruction process. We caution others to exercise great caution when considering Kowalski Construction for their home projects and recommend insisting on explicit completion dates and clear contract terms. While we understand that my husband signed the completion paperwork on May 5, it was done in good faith, assuming the project was already accurately billed as we received a 'final bill', paid in full, and the Project Manager was going to issue the credits discussed. We were greatly disappointed by the company's back office and Project Manager, as they failed to rectify the situation and uphold their commitment to quality service. We have noticed multiple negative reviews on this company, echoing the same issues we faced, particularly concerning the Project Manager. Unfortunately, Kowalski Construction appears unresponsive to such concerns and defensively reacts to criticism. We chose Kowalski to build a office for my wife in our home. She had a very particular vision on how she wanted it with glass and French doors and this and that etc. I was worried for their safety if it didn't turn out right.... but they total delivered! Looks amazing!! The staff are all craftsman in their fields and a pleasure to work with. She said she's never leaving her office now and no boys are allowed in. Now she has a place to escape a house full of teenage boys that smells like farts and dogs. Happy wife happy life, it's a win win! read more

A faulty golf cart charger connection caused major fire damage to our home last Jan 31 (2024). We were unable to live in the home and had to vacate that evening, with nothing! By the following day, a neighbor approached us and suggested we contact Kowalski Const which I did the following Monday. Within 3 hours of my call, Mr. Riley Underwood was at the site with several of his team members. After a quick walkthru to view the site,, Riley gave his pitch empathetically and professionally. Based on our neighbor's recommendation (they had just had their house rebuilt after a similar fire), we signed up. I should now explain that Kowalski is organized, basically, into two units: "Contents" and "Construction". Contents is in parallel to the insurance industry which handles contents (anything that would fall out if you turned your house upside down). The rest is "construction", the group that completely rebuilds your home in accordance with insurance company "scope of work". They handle the entire process, all trades, etc with me the homeowner not having to arrange, manage, or organize anything Our experience with the Contents folks was excellent. They sent a team of at least 10 immediately to begin cleanup of the site. They then cleared out all our belongings: those that would have to be disposed, and those that could be taken to storage as salvageable items. We were given a photo record of every item in both categories so we always knew if something had been discarded for damage, or saved for cleaning and storage. This was handled expertly and was well documented. Now it's time to rebuild. Following the insurance company's issuance of their "scope of work", the back and forth game starts. Kowalski wants more money to do more repairs while the insurance guys do everything they can to mitigate their losses and reduce the damage claim. After much delay, the negotiations were over and an amount settled on. Our problem with "Construction" was that it took 14months from fire to move-in, all for a job which should have been done in 3-4 months less time. There was one spell when we went 58 days without one person showing up to work on our house! And this was after the supplement negotiation had been settled. Then, following Thanksgiving, we went 13 work days (not calendar days) when again NO ONE showed up. This, of course, torpedoed our hopes of being in for the holidays. I will say that now that we are in, we are quite happy with the Construction and the finished product. They did a great job. Not one punch list item! Upon completion, the Contents group comes back, first to clean the house after construction, then to move us in. This was flawless! All our goods arrived early one morning, were off loaded by room and location. Carpets were laid first, then the furniture, then the boxes. Wonderful staff. Kudos to Vice President of Contents Division Elizabeth Lee who shepherded my wife and me thru all 14 months of angst and concern, answered all our questions about move-in , and personally watched over several of our more prized possessions in her own office!! And finally, one story: After being here a couple of weeks, we could not find a silk tapestry from the Orient that we knew Kowalski had. We simply could not find it. We spoke to Liz about this and in the end, she actually sent her textile lady and a gentleman out to our house to go through every drawer and closet looking for the item. Lo and behold, after 2 1/2 hours, it was located in a suitcase where we had never looked! We thank Liz and the contents team for their friendship and concern for our experience. I call Kowalski and they sent out their board up company within the hour. They had my building secure and me headed back home in short order. 24/7 service is only as good as how they respond at 2am. Our daughter owns a town home in Tempe. While we were visiting this past week the drain line from the second floor broke and there was water everywhere. We were unsure what to do so we called Kowalski Restoration and they had someone to her place within 2 hours on Saturday. Manny Alvez was our initial point of contact and within 1 hour of being here he was able to get an electrician and a plumber out here to check her place out. The plumber worked diligently to fix the drain line that needed repair and by 4:00 that afternoon the place was livable again. Manny's co worker - Charles Stratton showed up this morning (Monday) to take over the project. He explained all of the next steps and gave use a schedule for completing the remainder of the work. Many and Charles are excellent communicators and give me great confidence that they have our daughter's best interests at heart. Worst company i have ever dealt with... pack out group - couldn't clean clothes in a timely fashion when we had to get out of our house I was told sort out 2 weeks of clothing and we will process them and get them back to you asap. - Took call after call to get first delivery - wait for it 10 boxes of towels but no clothes. Then it took several more calls for clothes to be delivered. Damaged articles when moved back to the house - lost articles when moved back to the house. - Now they want me to sign saying I will pay the difference they have not billed the insurance for delivering the product back to me 3K - they didn't unpack or put away it was all in the garage or spare room. - Thankfully we didn't use them for the construction - PM was not willing to write his own estimate was to lazy was only going to use what the insurance company provided. When we wanted to change the scope of work they were going to do they wanted 20% of the amount of what they were not going to work on. Clearly not everything was cleaned as I am sure they wouldn't match my socks up but that is the way they came back to me. We had a car fire on the driveway at our property. The local fire department told us that we have to board up the garage (that same day) because the fire department knocked down the garage door. The fire department told us that all area fire departments use Kowalski because they never bill the home owner because they deal directly with the insurance company, and they will not bill us even if the insurance company doesn't pay them. As you'll hear later, that was a total lie. So we called Kowalski and they came out, and they also told us that they bill the insurance company and they will not bill us even if the insurance company didn't pay them. Then they present a tablet for you to sign several documents. What they don't tell you is that you are signing your life away when you sign their tablet. And they don't care who signs the tablet. I didn't sign it. Be very careful because one document is called SPECIAL POWER OF ATTORNEY. Never sign that one, because by signing it you're allowing them to do whatever they want, and you can't stop them. They even told us that we couldn't get any other bids. We were naive. We believed the fire department and we believed Kowalski that they would only bill the insurance company so we let them do the board up. BIG MISTAKE, because the Kowalski employees were lying to us thru their teeth. After they did the board up, Kowalski tried to get paid by the insurance company, but the insurance company refused to pay them, so they came after us for almost $3,000 which they charge to put up some plywood where the garage door was. That was a totally outrageous price for a few pieces of plywood and about an hour work. We would never have agreed to that ridiculous price, but they never told us what their price would be to do the board up. That's how Kowalski operates. Keep the homeowners in the dark. We made a big mistake believing what we were told. Why did the fire department mislead us? I leave that to you to figure out. Kowalski preys on vulnerable people, including the elderly, who've just had a fire. We'll never use them ever again. read more

Charles To the rescue! While we were in the ER, my hubby called Kowalski to clean up water from a sink that had run over into 6 rooms. No overflow drain. We returned home two hours later (I slipped in the water and needed my head stitched) and the water was gone; fans in place. They worked with us as far as what had to go and what could be saved. I had long heard about Kowalski's reputation in town from their responsiveness to their customer service, but it wasn't until I needed their help firsthand that I saw it in action. Our water heater burst and Kowalski Construction was at my house within 45 minutes of me making a call to them. Cliff stayed at our home until 9 o'clock that night, ensuring that the fans and blowers were in place and doing their job to dry out the damage. They showed up every day for the next four days and within a couple of days their hard work led to relatively small amounts of damage from what could have been a catastrophic event. Within a couple of days, our home was back to normal. Every person we dealt with at Kowalski was professional and displayed a high degree of customer service. We had a house fire/lightning strike 19 months ago and still not close to completion. It has been one error after another, poor communication, and submitting sub par estimates. What they will say and do are completely different. They don't seem to care or speak knowledgeable about city codes and details of the job. I don't recommend or have confidence in this company. They seem overworked and not engaged in the project. You know it's bad when after you sign the contract you are the one doing most of the follow up and feel like you work for the company. They actually sent the wrong house estimate to our insurance company. They aren't detailed oriented. They will blame the insurance company for not providing funds for damage and things not covered. They either have 1 star reviews or 5 star reviews. That's not a good sign. Don't do it!!! We highly recommend a public adjuster as they are unable to effectively deal with insurance. We had a lightning strike and subsequent attic fire in July of 2021. Our neighbor recommended this company and the fire department handed us a card for their Board up division. They bungled our claim with State Farm by submitting the wrong claim, duplicating items and and failing to get prior approval of the costs before demolition. The work they did perform was poor. It's been almost 18 months and they just finished our roof and forgot about our fireplace chimney vent. Now, after taking another 55k to begin our plumbing, electric and HVAC, they said there's not enough money to fix the home and have stopped working. What a nightmare. My family recently went through a tragedy and we had to have them come out and board up my mom's windows and doors. They came out promptly boarded everything up and did not damage the inside of the house at all. It's been a year and our home is still not completed. They made promises and said they would return it to what it had been before the crash. It is a two-bedroom repair. While the account executive was awesome, the project manager was inexperienced and he would take weeks to get back to us. He also fought us on what was/wasn't covered through our insurance and at the end of the day the one thing we wanted and he said no to, had been covered by the insurance the whole time. He also told us any money that wasn't used, would be a financial gain for the company. That's insurance fraud. I would NEVER recommend them. It was a long, stressful year trying to get them to finish the job. Their workers would say they would show up on one day and then they wouldn't. It was the worst experience and beyond frustrating. To this day the house is still not done. The fence wasn't installed correctly; the house isn't painted and we had to pay out of pocket for a/c repairs since the house was poorly boarded up in the summer and our a/c unit was overworking. The a/c contractor said it was because of the fact the windows were not properly boarded up during the peak summer heat. We also got termites. This had never been an issue but the termite contractor said the house had been exposed to the outdoor elements for a long period. They wanted to charge $10,000 for the house to get painted. It's a 1,200 sq ft home. That seemed absurd. So, we chose to just leave things unfinished and will pay someone out of our pockets to finish the job in a manner that doesn't take weeks to get scheduled and then have them confuse us with all these extra costs. I will add, I called our insurance carrier and they let me know more than once that we had great coverage and everything should be put back together as it was because it was covered 100%. Also, we were told we would get credit for work that wasn't done and they played the "confuse the consumer" game, and what we thought would be a nice chunk, turned out to be a joke. I would've fought back legally, but they consumed a year of my life that I will never get back. We chose them because of the positive reviews but were sadly disappointed by the disregard shown to my family. read more

Kick this company out of any projects you have. They, to me, are just a bunch of bottom feeders scrounging for work at any ones expense. Nice response. All your company did was trash my locks replace them without giving me access to my own property. Then charge me $800 plus and try to bribe me to use your company. What kind of back room deals to you have with the fire dept? Send your bill to sun city fire dept they called you not me. How do you justify charging $800 plus for changing locks. No board up was done. I told your company to remove your lock so i could have access to my own property and they did not. I had your locks removed at cost that you should pay for.
