This is one of my Monday lunch spots that goes in and out of my rotation. It will fade off my radar and then I will remember to get by here and I'll go a couple of times a month for a while. They serve a rotating menu based on the day of the week. I have been on other days, but I like the side choices best on Mondays. My go to is usually Smothered Pork Chops. My sides vary a bit, but I regularly get Northern Beans, Mac & Cheese, and Cream Corn. There seems to be a sweetness to everything I've eaten. Sometimes it can be a bit much and will sometimes spur my hiatus. Everyone is so friendly here. I've never encountered a single employee that wasn't cheerful and efficient. In all honestly, it's better than most places I go, anywhere in Memphis. It's cafeteria style, so you walk down the line and choose what you want. You can tell how fresh it is before you choose and I dig that. Dining room is good. Watch your step, platforms in and out of the booths. Someone will come get your plate and trash. They are always there to make sure you enjoy your food. I'll be back for sure. read more

Dropped in on our way to the airport after visiting Graceland for the 2nd time in a week. Not a place for ambiance but the food was fantastic and the staff attentive and friendly. We ordered baked chicken, smothered pork chops and various sides, along with BIG OL' squares of chocolate cake and red velvet cake. The red velvet cake was exceptionally good, being light and airy and tasting of chocolate (as it should) and not food coloring. Next time we're in Memphis (and if we survive; Memphis has the WORST drivers I've ever seen, and I'm from L.A.) we will definitely go back! read more

Let me begin with the positives about this his cafeteria-like line serving establishment. 1. The food is good and flavorful. 2. The servers were attentive, though not overly friendly. 3. The line was long, but moved at a pace you'd expect for a cafeteria line. 4. The tables and floor were clean. However. I will never get used to walking into a restaurant and seeing storage items sitting in a corner for all to see. Boxes and storage bins and other items meant for storage should not be stored in the same space(s) that people eat. The doors and walls could also use a good cleaning. White doors have to wipes down daily or the dirt builds up on them and in a restaurant should be wiped down on a regular basis as well. I was visiting from out of state and needed to stop somewhere for lunch. My Lyft driver recommended Kountry Cookin' and I could not be more grateful to her! The restaurant is pretty much as I expected for a shopping center location. It was clean and there was plenty of seating. I went in right at lunch time so the line was long. The staff was was rapidly replacing food as it got low. The line to order took a little longer than I expected but I wasn't in a rush so it wasn't a problem for me. I ordered baked chicken, greens, candied yams, and cornbread. Food is served in to go styrofoam containers then packed in a plastic bag regardless of if you plan to dine in or carry out. Food was so so nothing to brag about but those greens whoever was cooking that's not it too salty never had stiff greens either omg the lasagna might look good and cheesy that wasn't it either the lasagna taste like it came from frozen with pounds of cheese and the ground beef look like that sloppy Joe mess with noodles that's a hell no couldn't finish it mac n cheese nope mashed potatoes nope no season but!!!! Great well seasoned food. We ordered 3 meals just to make sure we got a good sample. Even picky eaters loved the fried okra and fava beans. I can't emphasize enough to try something you are not familiar with, you will very likely come away loving it. Service was fast, friendly, helpful and attentive. I have visited this place on several occasions, and I have enjoyed my meals every time. I know they get over 150 customers a day. There is always line to order , but not out the door. The staff is wonderful. I can tell that there are customers that have been going a long time because they know their names and chat while preparing orders. I love supporting these types of businesses. I live 30 minutes away, but I would be willing to drive that far for a meal. I am happy even with just a vegetable plate. When in Memphis, you must try some Soul food. We stopped in for lunch before we visited Graceland. The restaurant itself is very basic inside, you line up cafeteria style to order your food. It's a great way to also see their offerings and ask for advice on what's good. The food was so delicious that I'm still salivating when I think of their food. I ordered the smothered pork chops with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. I sampled my husband's turkey leg with a side of spaghetti and candied yams. Everything was absolutely delicious and very filling. Each meal was accompanied with a choice of bread, we both got the corn bread, also amazing. Along with the great food, they had great service. When you pull into a parking lot at 11:00 am and ya can't find a spot, well you gotta know it's good food, good soul food here. We stayed at the hotel by the airport. Yelped for a good bite before hitting the road home. We walked in to a line wall to wall and we could smell why. Mmm mmm. It was a Thursday and they had the daily menu on the monitor. I had fried wings, candied yams, Mac n cheese. My hub had dark meat baked chicken and Mac n cheese. Oh, don't forget that fabulous roll. The staff was busy, friendly and, oh someone can REALLY cook. This wasn't the open the can and heat it up, oh no! This was good tasting, perfectly cooked food for your soul. Give it a try if your in the area. You won't be sorry. They don't open until 11:00, and when we got there at 10:45, the parking lot was full, and there was a line outside waiting. I heard about this place from a friend who lives in Memphis. When you see a line in front of the restaurant 20 minutes before they open you know it's got to be good. We waited in line and once we got inside I changed my mind 4x because it all looks AMAZING... Finally decided on 2 smothered pork's chops with my sides being spaghetti and green beans. My GF got baked chicken (dark meat) dressing, mashed potatoes w/gravy and Mac n cheese. I got corn bread, she got a roll and we washed it down with sweet tea. Dessert: banana pudding & peach cobbler The pork chops are HUGE, tender and well seasoned, the gravy is delicious Spaghetti, sooo good different then I'm used but it was cooked with love. Green beans w/white potatoes (note: no need to add salt or pepper to ANYTHING) Baked chicken: OMG! Fell off the bone! The dressing, the best I've ever had, mashed potatoes...mmmm and the Mac, extra cheesy but not too much you can tell they use good cheese not the cheap stuff. I visited for the first time today after searching online for soul food in Memphis. The cake was dry and had little flavor. Plus, no one greeted or assisted me while I read the menu. I was not expecting a cafeteria-style serving line. Plus, the employees conversed amongst themselves instead of with the customers. The cashier didn't even make eye contact with me. Poor customer service, but the dinner roll and pork chop w gravy hit the spot. I did not enjoy the cabbage and yams...I may visit again to order a smothered pork chop. We shared an order of smothered pork chops with two sides - collard greens and mac & cheese. Ever have pork chops fall off the bone? Ever not need a knife to cut thru a pork chop? Ever have a pork chop that you dream about after you've had it. It's what we had and what we talked about on the entire road trip. I don't even remember much about the sides. The pork chops were on the salty side but the chili pepper water helps soften that blow. Not to mention, I like spicy. I devoured that chop down to the bone. My friend and I had just visited Graceland - home of the King of Rock and Roll and wanted to chow down on some authentic southern cookin. I found this on the yelp app and since it was less than 5 minutes away we were curious to try something local. We came around 12pm and church must have finished because everyone was in their Sunday best and a large line began to form. Luckily this cafeteria style restaurant had quick service and we were able to select our items in a speedy fashion. I decided to do a double portion of their smoothered pork chops with two sides (collard greens, and mac n cheese). Those smoothered chops were insane! You didn't even need a knife to cut that bad boy. It was so tender and the sauce gave it that salty, but smooth flavor. My mouth is drooling. Holy moly this food has some deep soul and some deep flavor. It's your basic cafeteria style place where you are served on a plate and a lunch tray. However, their options are vast and everything we tried was fantastic. Between us we got ribs, a turkey leg with dressing and gravy, greens, green beans, cornbread, and banana pudding. Every bite tasted like you were getting the best home cooking you've ever had from grandma. The staff were also lovely with a smile and a warm greeting for all who entered. The power of Elvis led me here while staying at the Days Inn Graceland. Tasty and affordable Memphis style food in a cafeteria setting. I give it three stars because the use TOOOOOOOO much salt on the chicken breast and their beans. Food is pretty good. The servers really skimp on the portions. They are dependable as far as being open as schedule but they do need to update website to reflect their price increases because their oxtails say $14.95 on line but yesterday it was $23.50!!!!! Understandably EVERTHING has gone up due to Covid but they should let customers know on their website. read more

The food was pretty good. It's cafeteria style service, so you can see what you want and get plated up pretty quickly. The pork chops seem to be the thing here, and from all the pictures, it has a nice gravy on it. Mine was just in a liquid like it had been cooked in a broth. It was still good, but why change a good thing? Where's the consistency? Sides were good. Mine was boxed up for some reason. I don't recall anyone asking if I wanted it to go. Really good soul food spot. The meats are always thoroughly cooked and the side dishes are well seasoned. Don't come here if you are on a diet. In my opinion the customer service is good considering it is a black owned restaurant. I never had any problems here and the food is always on point.
