I hate to do this because I understand these folks are just trying to make a living and I assume the owners are also Korean like myself... But I'm genuinely appalled by the quality of the food here. I realize that this might be acceptable standard for somewhere like Missouri, and I may be speaking too much from a Los Angeles perspective, but this was simply just shocking from a basic "Korean food" definition. This was not an unlucky isolated experience. Why? Because the insanity starts with the menu itself: A $14.50 bibimbap that doesn't come with a fried egg + meat by default... is wild. I just saw another review who was disappointed when her order arrived with no fried egg and didn't realize that it was a $1.50 add-on (Emily C., you are indeed correct that this dish usually comes with an egg. This is NOT normal and should NOT be normal. This is NOT indicative of a normal Korean restaurant. You were incredibly nice to give a 4/5 star rating). And then there's another $1.50 for the meat topping? Again, this is just insane. This is not normal. This is Missouri-normal, apparently (thank god I'm only here for 1 night). Bibimbap includes the meat by default, period. I've literally had better bibimbap on a plane. I ordered the Hotstone Bibimbap version. It was not "hotstone" bibimbap (you can look up the distinction). It was barely even bibimbap. I mean it technically was, but not at ~$17. It also did not come with the sauce I had to add-on. Wait, I forgot to mention that in the previous paragraph because I thought the egg + meat costing extra was already too much and forgot there was even more. THE ESSENTIAL SAUCE(s) IS "required" AND COSTS $0.50 EACH??? Look, if you managed to read this far, you already know the pattern here. Bibimbap INCLUDES THE SAUCES. It's just gochujang and sesame oil for god's sake, not some fancy gourmet white truffle marinara sauce. Nobody expects ketchup to cost extra when ordering fries. Same thing here. I'm sorry if this all sounds too critical to those of you who aren't familiar with Korean food, but it really needs to be said if this restaurant represents it. This has nothing to do with post-pandemic food inflation. Gochujang is just Korea's ketchup. Increase the bibimbap price to $20 if you have to (insanity), but please don't make Korea's ketchup and general purpose sesame oil that's incorporated in so much Asian cuisine an extra "$0.50/each add-on" thing. I'm too lazy to type up another essay about that but just know that she suffered through barely half of it before hopelessly resorting to a protein bar. My friend persuaded me to come here to try it out so I did and was very pleased. It was my first time and definitely will not be my last. I give it 4 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service so giving them an overall of a 5. I've came across this restaurant quite a few times on my yelp account and the mixed reviews and it being an Americanized Korean restaurant prevented me from trying it because there really are some amazing hidden hole in the wall gems in Springfield. However, I wouldn't stop yourself from coming here from reading reviews about how horrible their experience was due to one thing they had on the menu or one bad experience. I ordered the hot stone bibimbap and the spicy pork plate to get a variety of taste and both were very good. The side soup that the bibimbap came with was not very good, it was basically just water with some salt. This restaurant is more of an Americanized- Korean restaurant, very modern and clean, with a order at the counter and seat yourself type of vibe. I thought the interior design was very pleasing and and trendy that comes with a more Americanized Asian restaurant. If you want a very authentic Korean experience than this is not the place for you but if you never had Korean food and are curious, I'd definitely check this place out. The staff was very friendly too so that helped with the 5 stars. These sort of restaurants are typically not my first choice- I usually like the hole in the wall, hidden, and cash only type of establishments but I was definitely surprised by how good the food was here. So we tried to flag down staff, and they purposely ignored and ran the opposite direction. we finally flagged a waitress down, and she said she'd check on it. I watched her walk to the counter, not check or ask anyone, come right back and say "it's almost ready" okay lol. We waited a while longer. Then asked the manager. He shook us off, said there is a wait, and it'll be coming out soon. 1 HOUR LATER. my boyfriend is done with his food and we are still waiting. I told him to just ask for a refund. He had to wait in line for the Cashier because the manager and waitress ignored us. Cashier had no idea how to refund us, and asked the manager what to do twice. She finally just shoved $14 in my boyfriends hand. We paid with card... after tax, that doesn't even cover what we paid. The whole meal should've been refunded imo. Our family of 7 descended upon them in the middle of lunch rush and we quickly found a table and placed our orders. You order at the counter and it's almost like making your own bowl. I tried the Bibimbap hot stone with tofu and black rice(almost like wild rice). The food comes in a big bowl with veggies, rice and your protein. The sauces come on the side along with some kimchi and Alfa Alfa soup. The soup is nice and warm and the kimchi pretty tasty. I loved the lemon soy sauce which was the perfect amount of tangy. The kochi sauce is a sweeter Barbecue sauce which was pretty good too. You get a variety of options for rice, veggies and proteins. The food here is great. Tasty, fresh and good quality. I would really recommend Koriya for dine in. Carry-out is a different matter. If you are depending on a fast pick up option for lunch, they cannot be depended on. Space constraints mean they can't have more staff to dedicate to carry out service and the current staff are overwhelmed with counter orders. I have had delays in the past with online orders, but today they actually dropped my order completely and had me wait 25 min before someone finally asked who I was and then found the problem. Staff was polite and apologetic, but I did not have time to wait for the food to get cooked. Amazingly delicious and healthy! Found this spot on vacation with my hubs and we loved it so much we back again. We love the bibimbap bowls (cold and hot stone) as well as the green wrap and seaweed salad. Presentation is so beautiful and the staff are super friendly.
