globs of fat on the Galbi Jjim (Korean Braised Short Ribs)
    Jennifer Y.

Noodles were flavorful but very salty. Galbi jjim was undercooked and had SO much fat on the meat. I definitely wouldn't come back here on my own and don't recommend. They don't have any side dishes except kimchi. Granted their kimchi is very good, though.

Coming back, they have expanded their menu, and interior has changed a bunch. The food is delicious, still great for a cold cloudy day. Their kimchi is also super delicious.

Kooksoo was OK... it didn't stand out to me. The Lobster Jjamppong was not good. It looks pretty but the taste was not it. The Bibim Kooksoo was also forgettable... I did like the Galbi Jjim. This was my favorite item from what we ordered. We might have just ordered the wrong items.

Service was friendly but I was really underwhelmed by the bulgogi. It was oily and lacked flavor. The Korean flat dumplings were very delicious though! The glass noodles were good and the rice was cooked perfectly. I just really wish the beef had been better quality and more flavor.

Spicy Chicken Noodle Soup and Kimchi

Kooksoo's spicy chicken noodle soup is a must. It comes with a mini side of kimchi, and honestly, "yum" is an understatement. Forget Campbell's... this is the real deal: rich, flavorful chicken broth, perfectly shredded chicken, bok choy, mushrooms, onions. Every spoonful is loaded with goodness!! Rain or shine, 100° or 50°, I'll be there for this soup. That's how addictive it is.

KOOKSOO is really good. We're very happy that they were recommended to us because GOOD Korean food is hard to come by these days. My wife ordered the King Ribs Jjamppong combo with Galbi and I ordered the Beef Kooksoo combo with Bulgogi. Both of these decisions were very, very good decisions. The flavor, quality AND quantity of these dishes were top notch. I'm aware that the prices seem pretty high, but you're definitely getting more than what you're paying for. Our server was very helpful and available. The food came and promptly without any compromise to its quality. I really can't think of anything that should prevent you from giving KOOKSOO a visit. It's really good.

Self service iPad. Quiet and not too crowded. I got free dumplings with yelp check in and they were great! Came out hot and generous with the filling. The pork, veggies, and crisp outer shell was a good bite. The stir fry noodles were also really good. I was skeptical about the Parmesan on top but it really brought the dish together. The chewy fresh noodles paired with the nice tender beef. I ate each bite with their house made kimchi which never misses.

ANNYEONGHASEYO Jungkooksoo IMNDIDA!! 방탄!! This food was pretty good but not my style. I wish I liked this food more but it just didn't hit as much. Throw in the fact that my meal was $30 I don't think I'll be coming back just because it's not my style. But if you like this food It would be great for you. The service was really good and the workers were really nice. Ambiance was good too clean restaurant with a nice vibe! :) BANGTAN BOY OUT!

This bulgogi was so good!!! I didn't have anything else on the menu but I will definitely be back for this. The kimchi was amazing, my boyfriend doesn't usually like it but he couldn't get enough of it here. It was very quiet and we were the only two in the restaurant at one point so it seems like this spot is lowkey (for now). Service is fast, you order on a tablet so it's a pretty smooth process.

Staff and servers are fast and welcoming. The food is so good! We always take left over home and the restaurant is small but clean! Everytime we go they're slowly expanding their menu. Super excited to try other dishes when we go back. Pro Tip: don't forget to check in on Yelp! It comes with free dumplings

King Ribs Jjamppong kooksoo is a good standard place for some warm soupy noodles. since their bowls are usually so hefty, i recommend splitting one with a friend. ive tried BEEF KOOKSOO, KING RIBS JJAMPPONG, and STIR FRIED BEEF WITH NOODLES, and GALBI JJIM. my favorite is the classic beef kooksoo. dont get me wrong the other dishes are super yummy, but when you see everyone else eating hot soup, you also get a craving for hot soup. oh also the galbi is a MUST - life is never complete without some. i also love that they are always refilling your kimchi & its one of the better kimchis ive had at restraunts. the ambiance is clean, with some wood elements. honestly the perfect place for people working a 9-5 to eat at.

It's one of those local restaurants that doesn't need flashy décor to stand out--the food is the main attraction. We ordered a variety of dishes so we could get a good feel for the menu, and surprisingly, the dishes I was most excited about weren't my favorites. The Beef Roll completely stole the show. The beef was incredibly tender, wrapped in a flaky pancake with fresh herbs and just the right amount of sauce. Every bite had a great balance of texture and flavor. If you're visiting for the first time, this is the one dish I wouldn't skip. Another standout was the Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. I know eggplant isn't everyone's first choice, but this dish might change your mind. The eggplant was cooked perfectly, soaking up the garlic sauce without becoming mushy. It's listed as spicy, but I found it to be mild, which actually let the garlic flavor come through even more. The Beef & Celery Dumplings were another solid choice. The filling was juicy, the celery added a nice freshness, and they were exactly what I was hoping for from a homemade dumpling. We also ordered the Dry-Fried Green Beans, and they were a great addition to the table. They had a nice bite, were well-seasoned, and paired well with the richer dishes without stealing the spotlight. Now for what might be an unpopular opinion--the Hand-Pulled Noodles. They're one of the restaurant's most talked-about dishes online, and honestly, they were the reason I came. Unfortunately, they just didn't live up to the hype for me. That doesn't mean you shouldn't order them--taste is subjective--but if I were coming back tomorrow, I'd spend my money on the Beef Roll and Eggplant instead. Overall, I'm glad I gave Hong Yuan a try. It's easy to see why locals enjoy this place, and I appreciate supporting a family-owned restaurant that's been serving the community. While the noodles didn't win me over, the Beef Roll, Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, and Beef & Celery Dumplings were more than enough to make me want to come back and explore more of the menu.

WOW! The braised okra with giant oyster mushroom positively SURPRISED and leap frogged to the top of my preferred vegetable GOTOs...The cumin lamb was SO tender and VERY flavorful. One of the best preparations yet. The Singapore noodle combo and Xao Long Bao did not disappoint... More importantly, the service we received was attentive, courteous, knowledgeable, and prompt. Sadly, the eggplant with garlic sauce is the ONLY reason a star is withheld for this review...it detracted from traditional Chinese style; notes of garlic eviscerated by the chef's sweetening to satisfy an American palette...Why fix something that's unbroken?...I get it. The restaurant has to cater to its customers who populate this mix use (business/lease residential) area at the NW corner of Alma and Hwy 121, but doesn't that limit its draw? Guess we'll just have to head either further south on Central (HWY 75) to the Legacy & Spring Creek areas or further west to the Preston and Warren Pkwy Frisco TX area to satisfy our authentic Chinese cuisine food cravings.

They first sat us in a booth but I requested later on to be moved to a large round table since we ordered A LOT. But back to when we first sat in the booth - As a Chinese woman, the second I spotted the older seats with ripped upholstery, it hit me like a culinary prophecy: this place was going to serve me some incredible, authentic Chinese food. I don't know what it is, but there's an inverse law of Chinese restaurants: the less fancy the exterior (and the more the booth looks like it's survived several natural disasters), the better the food. Apparently they skip Instagram-worthy renovations and put the budget where it belongs--on the plate! This is now hands down in my top 3 favorite Chinese restaurant in North Dallas - I can even say it's on the very top. I haven't forgotten about the staff. They deserve 10 stars. Super nice!
