We came here to celebrate my birthday. Since it was a 5:30 on a Thursday, it wasn't busy. The restaurant is decorated fairly dark so it gives it more of a dinner establishment feel. They have booths as well as tables and chairs and they offer outdoor seating as well. Our server was helpful with us as we perused the menu. We ended up settling on the Happy Hour Menu which had $3-$6-$9 options of both food and drinks. The food options are smaller versions of the main entrees except for the sushi- that was full size! We ordered drinks, sushi, sliders, Parmesan Chicken, and Edamame. I was so hungry that I started eating everything when it arrived so I don't have a lot of pics. All of it was SO good! I was totally dissatisfied with my service today. My server name was Amanda. Let's just say she seemed like she didn't want to serve me and my party. We ordered drinks just to be told the Espresso machine was broken. My friend ordered the margarita flight to say that frozen machine was broken. When the table next to us was brought out a frozen flight, HMMM THATS SUSPICIOUS!!! Next I told her I needed split tickets because I was paying cash and I had a 25.00 coupon for my bill. Nope she took my coupon and took it off the total bill then split it. I did not tell her to do this. Then she never bought me a paper ticket to pay cash, instead I had to use my credit card. Which I didn't want to. Also we ask for dessert and boxes. Well let's just say she never came back. I come here at least once a month. I have never but have but good service. Came here for happy hour. They have a pretty decent selection of small bites, including few sushi rolls. It's definitely not the best sushi I've ever had, but for the price it is pretty good. I was meeting a friend after work on a Tuesday for happy hour. Surprisingly, it took a while to be greeted... my friend arrived and we decided to sit at a table in the bar area since the bar seats were all taken... No one greeted us despite several employees and I think a manager walking past us several times. There was only one bartender, and as a bartender in my previous life, she was in the weeds. I heard her ask the manager for assistance, and he responded that he couldn't help her because he had to go back in the kitchen. A few seats opened at the bar so we moved. We ordered sangrias, which we were told were made in house. They tasted like they were heavy on grapefruit juice, and definitely not what we were expecting or wanted. I had her add raspberry syrup, made a huge difference! We ordered appetizers off the happy hour menu, which were delicious... Macadamia Chicken, Crab Crunch Roll and Tuna Roll. Definitely recommend all three and cannot choose a favorite. The rolls were fresh and a nice size, beautiful on the plate and not "fishy." The macadamia chicken tasted good, I'd prefer a little juicier, but honestly, the shoyu cream that was drizzled on the plate for dipping, was sooo good! So a mixed bag experience due to what seemed like a staffing shortage... but, I am glad we were patient and stayed. The bartender checked on us several times, our food was delivered quickly and was delicious and satisfying. Value was pretty exceptional. So all in all, I'd definitely return. read more

We've only been to Kona Grill during happy hour -- and honestly, that's the way to do it. The food has always been solid. We've tried the spicy tuna roll, crab crunch roll, spicy shrimp tempura, avocado egg rolls, macadamia nut chicken, sliders with fries, regular edamame, and angry edamame -- all from the happy hour menu. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and well-presented. The portions are smaller than the regular menu items, but it makes it easier to order more and enjoy different options. We also ordered the fire dragon roll (tableside fire-finished) off the regular menu -- fun presentation, but the alcohol flavor from the fire overpowered the roll a bit. The happy hour prices make it a great value, and the atmosphere is lively without being too loud. Service has always been quick and friendly for us. Izzy was our server on our most recent visit, and she was very kind and attentive. I've seen mixed reviews about regular dinner service and pricing, so we'll probably stick to happy hour -- it feels like the best time to enjoy Kona Grill. read more

Came in on a Saturday morning around 11:30am. There were no other tables with people dining in yet. Placed order for take out. Sashimi and sushi order. Prices online and at the restaurant seemed different. At the restaurant seemed cheaper. Got the order ready within minutes. Quick and efficient! All the sushi and sashimi from here were great! Especially Eel Sushi and Eel Sashimi were phenomenal. Slightly crispy on the surface, juiciness and warm eel with the sauce was the best eel I have had since the eel dish I had in Japan earlier this year. Salmon, tuna and yellowtail were also good but the eel stood out! The only down side is the price. Prices are very expensive, basically paying $4.40 per sashimi piece. If it was more affordable, I could see myself coming for sushi/sashimi more often. Four-star rating because of the price. read more

Went for dinner to Kona Grill with several friends and it was not the best experience. The ambiance is lacking, very plain dining room without any sense of comfort or design. The service was meh. Our server would dissappear for long stretches and we had to ask other people to get things or call her back. The drinks were unimaginative and just ok. Three of my friends ordered lemon drop martinis that all had to be sent back. They came in rocks glasses and all were too bitter and concentrated and tasted like a lot of lime juice and no alcohol. The food presentation was decent and everyone said that it was tasty enough. The check out process was terrible. They bring a device to self pay. They won't split the bill if the party is over a few people 3 or 5 I can't remember. The only way to split the check, is for the device to be passed around, and each person has to calculate their own total, including the taxes, and then pay your share. With 10 people, this was an unnecessarily tedious process. Even if you could click on the items you had and the system would calculate the total and taxes for you would have made this better. This was just the appropriate end to the rest of the dining experience. read more

It had been several years since we've been here. My son wanted to go for his birthday because of their miso sea bass entree. Unfortunately, they have taken it off their menu. When we got there I ordered the margarita flight, which I was told was unavailable. Then I ordered the avocado spring rolls, which I was told was out of stock. Not a good way to start. I ordered the sake flight and so did my son, but we were only brought one flight. We ordered the calamari and chicken satay appetizers. The calamari was a very small portion with more peppers than calamari. I got the Asian salad with shrimp which was good but a much smaller portion that I would expect for a "large" salad which costs $29 (and smaller than in the past)!! My son got the sea bass sliders which were tiny. Overall the portions were small for the price. I don't know if it's the economy or what but the restaurant was less than half filled on a Friday night which shocked me. But maybe it was the prices. I absolutely love, I mean, love the butter cake here at Kona Grill. I have had several other butter cakes and find this to be the best I've ever had. The raspberry sauce with it is delicious. Although I told them, please do not heat up my butter cake, because by the time I get home, it's going to be hard as a rock. I cannot say enough bad things about this place. From the flies buzzing around my food to the homeless man accosting me on the way out my advice is to stay away. We got here for happy hour which is a draw if you live in the area because it starts at 2 and has a big happy hour menu but the food is mediocre at best and frankly the drinks leave something to be desired. Two flies flew into our beer and the waitress didn't offer to replace it. Then when we were walking out there was someone sitting on the bench by the hostess as we said thank you and goodbye. The man followed us out and tried to start a fight in the entry way of the building. No one tried to stop it, no one came to make sure everything was okay. Ate at an odd time (2:15P), and restaurant was not even close to full. Atmosphere/Ambiance pleasant. Our server, Karl, was very friendly and welcoming. Checked back, always with a smile, several times to see if we needed anything. Food was very tasty, however, as some have stated, quite overpriced. We asked for our appetizers first, entrees after. Contrary to our request, entrees were brought out first, and that was disappointing, but food was very good. Their lemongrass clam chowder ($17) was delicious, even though the clams were hard to find. Lots of bacon and bursting with flavor. Loved that it was a creamy broth and not overly thickened. Asian salad ($20) was crisp and fresh. Ordered their Macadamia nut crusted chicken (additional $6) to be added, but salad came without the chicken. Waited about 12-14 minutes for chicken to arrive. Also asked for dressing on the side, but it came mixed into the salad. Chose not to complain. Husband got the Kona Seabass sliders ($25). Fish was white, mild, and flaky and came with their house-made chips (get them! they're SO good, and NOT greasy!). He also got the SIDE Asian Salad ($15) which you can see pictured. Manager came to us at the end of our meal and apologized for the mix-ups. Total bill for 1 soup, 1entree salad, 1 side salad, and 2 sliders was $81.62 before tip. We did not eat because upon entry the floor was pretty dirty. So we took a seat at the bar and went to use restroom. The ladies restroom was unacceptably dirty and because of that I would not order food there. My husband went into men's where the urinal was wrapped in plastic and unusable. He said "not filthy" but not clean. We ordered 2 beers , let the bartender know about the restrooms and that we wouldn't eat because of concern of cleanliness. She was great! Good conversation, she shared our concerns with someone? , we enjoyed our beer and left. The manager told me the charge for the portion I didn't receive would be credited back to my account. I paid gratuity and I was sent through all this trouble. After a few days, the money was never returned. I called the restaurant again and spoke to a manager at that location. I was told that it would take 10 business days for the money to return. After 10 business days, the money still was not returned, so I did a dispute with my bank. Terrible experience and service. I will NEVER return to this place. I usually DoorDash the KG burger when I'm craving a burger. It tastes really fresh, not soggy. The fries are pretty good. I like that they place the toppings on the side. Their ranch is also really good. However, I'm not really a fan of their new sauce. I haven't dined in, in a couple of years, but I remember the ambiance being great because the staff has always been so nice. The service is ridiculously slow. 2 plus hours now and still waiting. Manager came by to apologize that the kitchen was backed up. Sorry sounds like they seated too many tables for the kitchen to handle. The place is so loud that you can't hear someone three chairs away. This is not the Kona Grille I remember. It used to be a vibrant happening location. The service I had this evening was good, but everything else was off. We ordered chicken pad thai that was mushy, and overly saucy. Their sushi used to be great, now not so much. Plus they removed their hallmark Miso Sea bass! Looking for good service, solid portions, and fair prices? You won't find that here. We arrived for a 6 PM reservation for four on a Saturday and were seated promptly. The restaurant was about two-thirds full, so I didn't expect any delays. Still, it took nearly 30 minutes for our drink order to arrive. Our waitress refilled our waters twice and apologized, explaining that the bar was overwhelmed. It even looked like a manager had stepped in to help the lone bartender, while some servers resorted to making their own drinks. Maybe someone called in sick--it happens--but the slowdown was hard to ignore. Once drinks finally came out, the appetizers followed soon after. The potstickers and egg rolls were tasty, though portions were modest for the price. Entrees took longer than expected, testing the patience of even the most understanding customer. Once they arrived, everyone seemed to enjoy their meal. I had opted for the $41 Wagyu meatloaf. It came wrapped in bacon and topped with a sweet chili-style glaze, the serving was about the size of a fist. Both the potatoes and meatloaf were lukewarm at best. I decided to just go with it until I hit the cold center. That was it for me--clearly pre cooked but nowhere near warm. Honestly, you can't even reheat high end meatloaf properly? Manager took it away and apologized, offering to replace the meal, but we had waited long enough and I was out of patience. With so many solid options in the area offering better service and consistency, I don't see myself coming back. It was my grandmothers birthday and they don't seat you until at least half of the party gets there. There is indoor and patio seating available. I ordered a watermelon margarita and the pad Thai noodles and added shrimp. The margarita was good, but it was gone in like 5 seconds I wish they had bigger glassware. As far as the noodles. Hands down the worst service I have received in my life. We got seated at 8pm for our 7:30pm reservation (on Mother's Day so the wait was not a huge deal since they were PACKED). But we didn't get our food until ~9:40pm. My teenagers and 8 year old were absolutely starving by the time the food came out. The waitress smelled like smoke and it kept getting worse as the night went on. She clearly went on breaks to smoke. She was an older woman and she kept swearing in front of the kids saying she doesn't know wtf is going on today with the kitchen. She didn't even give all of us water even though we kept asking. 5 stars - just for serving food after 11 pm ! Most places shut kitchen by 10 pm. Shared happy hour appetizers. Sliders, lettuce chicken wraps, & bbq chicken flatbread. All tasted great. Updating to 5 for truly fantastic service and food during Happy hour. I think between separate trips we have tried all the apps (no drinks, though). Our favorites and most value were the shrimp + steak (not on menu), $14. That alone will fill you up! Other favorites were the shrimp tacos, chicken lettuce wraps (sauce was wonderful on this), macadamian chicken (that is a very unique sauce!), crispy avocado egg roll (crunchy, soft, and warm). I did not like the sliders as it was two small patties and felt not worth it, ribeye meatballs (again, small and not very juicy, $4.5 per meatball), chicken satay (just not amazing), bbq chicken pizza (a bit heavy on the bbq sauce). Service was great, prompt, and accurate. Made sure steak was cooked nicely. Ambiance is a good dinner atmosphere.
