The hostess scared me when I arrived. The food was very good, but I wouldn't say over the top great. The Keylime pie was much more sour then I've ever experienced in my 50+ years. The initial five minutes were such a turn off, perhaps I enjoyed the food a little less. More details and my first five minutes: We had a reservation for 14 at 5:00. I arrived at 4:45 and asked how to get to the tiki bar. The hostess said she was going there and I could follow her. I said "great, by the way I am part of the 5:00 reservation". She couldn't find the reservation, then said "oh no. You can't go out to the tiki bar. Your party is already here. They're waiting for you.". She actually scolded me. I felt shocked, confused, and reprimanded. It's true that the rest of the party did arrive early. I immediately sat with the group, never making it out to the tiki bar. When I sat at the table, the waiter was already taking drink orders, and I had 15 seconds to decide on a drink. He said he would come back to me. He didn't come back until after all the other drinks were prepared and served. The rest of my group enjoyed it very much. Apparently Hook is under new management and it shows. The only reason we went there to eat was because it was SCS Restaurant Week and Hook was on the front page of the Sentinel advertising their Restaurant Week deals. As it turns out, when we arrived, they rescinded their participation in the Restaurant Week deals. A total bait and switch. We had a subpar experience there and won't be heading back. Our server said he was new. What that looked like was him knowing nothing about any of the dishes on the menu when we inquired, him never returning to fill our emptied water glasses, and him letting a smoked old fashioned sit for 15 minutes on the bar before he brought it to the table. It was so over smoked and rancid tasting. I am happy that they remade me a new old fashioned, but even that was like a 4/10 quality. Service was bad. In regards to brunch: If you're going to brunch, don't count on the eggs Benedict to be featured. I guess the cook didn't feel like having them? Oddly they also had lunch items like chicken Marsala. Stopped in by boat midday. We decided to sit outside at the bar. Most of the tables outside were unbused and dirty. I was underwhelmed by the menu and service. I was surprised there weren't more appetizer or lunch type options for those just stopping in for a drink and a snack. Everything was pretty pricey, and the tiki bar didn't have a separate menu. The one bartender was having trouble managing even though there were only 2 other couples at the bar. We decided not to eat and I just ordered a spicy margarita. The ambient lighting perfectly complemented the setting for both casual dinners and special occasions. The staff (all inclusive) truly made the experience memorable, they were attentive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu(s), they went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was enjoyable. Arrived for a birthday at the restaurant at 7:30. Worst experience. Everything we ordered ended up being out, they didn't have chicken or calamari to name a few. We chose Hook for an early weekday lunch. The black Quonset building is located on the wharf, a half mile out from the shoreline. Location signage is small and rather poor. Valet parking is pushed (but wasn't active this day). There were also a few open, free spots along the perimeter of the property. When I came in the floors were still being wet mopped; no greeter was on hand, and the old time rock music was blaring above the blast of the AC. We were the sole patrons. The hostess arrived and showed us to a windowed booth. Nice views of the surrounding marina. Wines by the glass were about $15-$20. Nice pours too. I ordered a Flamed Chicken Wrap which was ample. It included the listed $3 side salad substitute which I ordered in place of fries. The small salad was good, but later I found a more than double selection accompaniment charge of $8 added to my bill. I guess the wait person did not hear my request over the music. Only outdoor seating because of a private event inside. No shade because none of the tables had umbrellas. Food took some time to get to the table. Once it did, no napkins or silverware. Allow me to say, I have never been treated so poorly by a general manager of a restaurant. I informed the waitress that my fries were cold, after requesting his presents at my table of 8, numerous times to address multiple issues with the food he reluctantly came over. In conversation he stated my fries weren't cold the container was warm and he tasted the fries and the were warm. Two out of the four pasta dinners were also cold as well as the coffee. There was no empathy shown. We drove over an hour south east for a birthday gathering. We were treated last than. Everyone that was seated at that table were unsatisfied with their experience. Highly recommend the Old Sombrero which is basically a spicy Margarita emphasis on the spicy but in a good way plus I like spicy! Next were the appetizer order which we got the white fish dip, crispy calamari, and the raw oysters. I see why everybody here on yelp has pictures of the whitefish dip it's amazing served with these crispy bagel style chips. The crispy calamari was your standard good calamari with a creamy sauce very good. Only comment/critic I have for the oysters which were very good as well just wished there was a option of the red vinegar that is normally served with oysters replace the cocktail sauce they give you with them and add that. For entrees I got the crab stuffed lobster which was 10/10 definitely recommend. A few of us ordered that and everybody loved it. My sister ordered the diablo shrimp pasta which looked amazing she also said 10/10. I did get to sneak a taste of it and could confirm the claim. My dad ordered the burger which he said he did enjoy as well. The service was good as well very attentive polite and nice.Overall I would definitely come back to this restaurant the only thing I would have to knock would be the wait time for our table. We arrived early for our reservation the table that the restaurant had for us was a booth. Went for the first time after seeing the chef featured on local news several times. The aged NY strip was excellent and prepared as expected along with good asparagus and potatoes. The baked cod was tender and flavorful, but the risotto that came with that was bland, bland, bland! We were disappointed that there was NO draft beer because the tap was down, they were out of calamari we wanted and the menu was fairly limited after seeing so many featured recipes on television. We shared the crab cakes, chicken Milanese and fish and chips. First of all, the food all came within 10 minutes of ordering and it was hot and fresh. WOW!! Starting with the crab cakes.... OMG. OMG. I will be dreaming about them until next time. Do yourself a favor, forget the price for a moment and just order them. I have had many crab cakes and these were PACKED with real crab. The sauce and spiraled radishes paired with them were super tasty! The fish and chips were heavenly. The haddock tasted like extremely fresh quality and the batter was crispy and light. I, personally, do not care for heavily battered fish and this was PERFECT. The chicken Milanese was crispy, juicy and packed with flavor! My friend said it was so tender, and cut like butter. It was paired with a delicious salad drizzled with balsamic... I could eat that salad for lunch every day. Didn't get dessert this time, but the key lime pie and crème brûlée are on my list. Met friends here on a Friday night at the beginning of the Mardi Gras. They had specials for this event to include shrimp and crawfish with dirty rice- very tasty dish! And of course- I jumped ahead to the meal. I forgot to mention the lighting inside and decor is somehow warm and clean. First time here with our friends. We reserved a window table for four and was told th was not a problem. When we arrived we had to wait for the hostess to, what appeared, find other guests tables. When the hostess took us to our reserved table it was not at a window. When the hostess was told of the reserved window table she said it was not reserved, that there was nothing she could do and knew nothing about our reservation. So we were seated right under a speaker playing loud music. I asked our server to please have the music turned down, he said he would request it. After 15 minutes he came back to the table to go over the specials i said the music was still playing loudly he said he would go ask again. When he came back a third time I was told the man was busy I said I didn't care how busy the man was the music need to be turned down, he took our dinner orders. Apparently what I said must have helped as the music was lowered. The food was good but our orders were incorrect, my wife's was wrong and while the 3 of us did get correct orders my wife didn't get hers until the rest of us were almost finished with our meals. Our server told my wife her meal was half off, which was nice and apologized again for the wait. But it doesn't end there as one of our friends meal was also wrong he said nothing and ate the meal. Ok so you think the bad stuff was over, NO! When we got our separate bills they were wrong, my friend had mine and my wife's appetizer on his bill. Once you get to the restaurant entrance, you are greeted by complimentary valet, which is always appreciated. On Friday evenings, there was a nice cover band playing, surprisingly the restaurant was pretty empty for a Friday night. Our group had reservations, but reservations were not needed that night. Our server was very nice and efficient and brought our drinks and appetizers quickly. Most of our group was satisfied with their drinks and apps, biggest complaint was that then drinks were inconsistent. Dinner was amazing....everyone was pleased with their dishes. Our group had lamb chops, salmon, surf and turf, lobster mac n cheese, and branzino. Unfortunately we spent a lot of the night swatting gnats.
