I haven't been to fishbones in a long time but I was in the area and decided to stop in with my cousin. It was about 10pm on a Saturday night and the sign outside stated they had late night happy hour. However, once seated at the bar our server said happy hour isn't offered on the weekend. I started with the Lion's sushi roll. It was very fresh and ready quickly, I ordered the snapper beausoliel. Blackened snapper with sautéed shrimp in a butter sauce. It was served with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was all bland. With salt & pepper the green beans and potatoes were ok. The fish and shrimp tasted overcooked and rubbery. There was a live singer performing which made the experience better. I'd never order the snapper again but I would visit Fishbones. read more

Went to Fishbones twice for New Years Eve. We went for dinner and started our night there. After eating we met up with some friends elsewhere, then came back for a drink nightcap and listen to the band. I'm a sucker for Fishbones. I love this place. We started our dinner with a sushi roll and a sushi pizza. My wife loved the sushi pizza. To me, it's just a big California Roll blob, but to each their own! We both ordered an entree of braised short ribs. They were devine! I even tried to cut it with my spoon, and the short rib fell apart before I could even give full pressure downward with the spoon. Had the Firecracker Roll late on a Thursday night. For food and ambiance I give this place 5 stars. My roll was excellent and did NOT fall apart as I picked it up. Very tasty! The bread basket was good too. The Sushi guys did a great job. Our waitress was for $hit. If there wasn't an automatic 18% gratuity, I would have given her 10%. Drink and bread service was great. When my roll arrived I asked if she was sure it was a firecracker. It read that it was fried and no cream cheese. By the looks of it, I thought it was not my order. She said to me "I'm sure that's a firecracker." I asked if the white stuff was cream cheese. She said yes. I hate cream cheese on a roll and when I ordered I was sure to notice if there was cream cheese on it. She said "I'll check with the kitchen, they only have been making sushi for over 20 years." WTF, she's the one that said it was cream cheese in the roll. It was white fish not cream cheese. During the meal she did not return to our table. It seems the table next to us was irritating her. I couldn't be more disappointed, because we spent our time to go here and after showing the manager they did remove this from bill but honestly we were so disgusted by it that we stopped eating immediately and left our other app 3/4 the way un-eaten but paid ,because we wanted to leave ASAP . Believe it or not, I had never been to Fishbones until recently. I would say the experience was just average. Our server was very nice and was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer my questions about gluten free items. Service from the kitchen was quite slow despite it not being very busy. The was was ok. First we started with a spicy tuna roll. Kudos for having Tamara but the roll itself wasn't good, something about it didn't taste like tuna and it was very low on spice. For my entree I had the Faroe island salmon. The salmon was perfectly cooked and had a nice crust and medium inside. But the food was so salty it was almost unbearable., and I mean all of it, the salmon, the green beans and the potatoes. Someone in the kitchen was very heavy handed and sadly that was off putting. If your looking for a job i'd watch were you leave your belongings. my girlfriend got treated horribly there the time she worked there and we just got a text months later saying they have her purse and when we picked it up, the hostess stole her stuff and packed it full of mints and tooth picks. This restaurant charges a mandatory 18% with only four people in attendance . Taxes are applied after the 18% service charge (which is really the tip). That is an unfair practice. And then there's a box for an additional tip. Kind of an insult to injury. The waitress was excellent and I probably would've tipped her 20% but I didn't appreciate the tax after tip. read more

Oh my what a disappointment. I came back to visit Michigan with fond memories of Fishbones downtown Greek town location. I could not wait to order the legendary Alligator Voodo and Pasta Orleans. The alligator didn't disappoint as it was fresh and crispy as I remembered. However, when the pasta came out the sea and fishy smell hit us before it got to the table. Anybody knows that if your seafood still smells like it is swimming that means it's past it's due date! That it should be on the table! It was very pretty to look at, but the whole plate reeked! The fries were great: crispy on the outside, pliant on the inside. The coleslaw was the white sauce type, slightly sweet but not overly so. Fishbones seems to have found its groove again post-COVID. We've had some mixed experiences the past couple of years but tonight was excellent! They were packed and staffed to handle it. We had sushi and it was great! Our server was Elliott and he was very attentive and our food came out quickly but paced so we could finish our salads first. They add an automatic service charge of 15% which he was kind enough to circle on the bill so we were aware of it. We then provided an additional tip. He was great! We will return soon! read more

I come here somewhat frequently. I like the Faroe Island salmon and the orange roughy, but the best meal I have ordered was the seared scallops. They were amazing served with lobster sauce which had a very decent amount of lobster. The service is always great. It is not too loud so you can hear what your friends are saying during your meal. I haven't been to one of these in years. Since I was just down the street at the Eleanor and Edsel Ford House, I decided to try again. Being a member at the Ford House, I got 10% off my bill. Both the lunch and regular menus are huge with choices for everyone's taste. Even my extremely picky ex husband could find a few choices. I am trying to watch my weight so I just ordered a tempura shrimp roll and a salad with ginger dressing. Both were very good. I also got a bread basket that went home because I was more than full. I ordered a piece of carrot cake to go which was also good and big enough for 2 dessert treat after a meal. Service was great. Refills for my diet Coke came when needed and a take out one at the end of my meal. With my discount my bill was under $25 even with my good tip. HINT: being a good tipper always get the best service for regular customers. Both EBS and I always did/do that and always works. Since the Ford House is without a place to eat until next fall, I will be back each time I come over this way and look forward to trying the Southfield location soon. read more

The food was honestly not good. We got 2 different appetizers and 2 different entrees between the 3 of us and the best things we had were the bread and the fries. As far as the service, I got 1 refill, the rest of my party had to ask for more water. The waitress seemed like she was having a bad day or something, she barely checked on us throughout the hour we were there. At the end of the meal, when none of us wanted boxes and had plenty of food left nobody even asked if we enjoyed the meal. Then we found out 15% gratuity was built into the bill. So I love the fact that they have a separate entrance for carry out, the bread with the garlic butter was great and that was the only positive part of my food. I ordered artichoke and spinach dip with lobster and it looked like a science experiment. Because they put it in a container and never browned it like if you sat down in the restaurant. It looked weird and they should have been embarrassed to serve it. I put it on a baking dish and browned it myself. It tasted good with seasoning I put in it. The seafood gumbo made me gag when I tasted it. It was like an undesirable gravy flavor. I mixed the rice from the bottom and it was 10% better. I called my son to eat it. Took one of my close friends here for her birthday last night. This was our first time ever dining at this restaurant. We made a reservation for 6pm. We were seated right away and our waitress was prompt in greeting us and getting our drink order. My friend ordered salmon and I had a NY strip steak. The order came out within a reasonable amount of time. The food was good, I just felt like their side option's were lacking a bit. The facility was clean for the most part. The only thing that is prompting the 4 stars. Is the table next to us left when we arrived. The table was not cleaned the entire 2 hours we were there. It still wasn't cleaned when we left. Maybe they were short on staff. But food sitting on a table next to you for two hours is not appetizing. Especially since that table had a bunch of leftover sushi they didn't eat or take. Our most recent visit was on a beautiful warm day, and I've been looking forward to some outdoor patio dining, and sushi sounded great. Fishbone's has a great enclosed outdoor patio adorned with hanging flower baskets and flowers trailing down the walls. The bar is large and reminds me of an outdoor bar when you're on vacation, I always get vacation vibes at Fishbone's patio. Drinks and appetizers of breaded zucchini wedges were ordered and enjoyed. I got the fried Yam Yam rolls and husby got a seafood pasta. Great quality as always, but we did notice that the rolls were missing which I thought were included with an entree.
