Mango Fresh Milk with Matcha Foam (DD)
    Kathy D.

This is one of my fav spots in SF! it has delicious bento boxes and matcha. I got the Salmon in truffle soy obento, salmon is really fresh and so good it is cut perfectly. love the potato sides that's included, it has some sweetness to it since there's sugar on the sweet potato ^^ all the other sides is so yummy. They are generous with the portion c: For drinks, I ordered Mango fresh milk with matcha foam, it is so refreshing and the matcha and mango is a perfect combo. Would definitely try this spot again when I'm in the area

Matcha Latte with Salted Cheese Foam

Decided to get the matcha latte with salted cheese foam. Added mochi. Thought it was a unique topping. Not a lot places offer that. They use the famous marukyu koyamaen matcha powder. I got 75% sweetness and it was perfect. It came out to be over $10 which is pretty expensive. Next time I want to try the strawberry matcha. They also sell bento boxes. All neighborhood parking. Pretty tough to find.

5/5 for the duck breast bento and 3/5 for the matcha latte. I really liked the furikake on the rice and could eat the rice on its own because of how yummy it was. The duck was so tender and flavorful. I also liked the potato salad a lot. The glazed sweet potato added a nice sweet balance to the saltiness of the rest of the bento. I thought that the matcha latte was more milk than matcha. Also I got it with less ice so it wasn't as cold as I'd thought, but that was my mistake. I got lucky with when I went because a huge line formed right after I ordered. My bento was ready for pickup before the drinks. There's also only two small tables inside for eating and a bench for waiting.

The online ordering process was seamless, and only had to wait 10 more minutes before my food was ready. The quality of the matcha really stood out, they're generous with their Marukyu matcha, and it shows. The drink is easily a 5/5. Unfortunately, the bento box was underwhelming. It lacked visual appeal, and the salmon was sliced unusually thin, some of the thinnest I've had eaten locally. At $27, it didn't feel like a good value, and the sides were fairly unremarkable (a small piece of cold corn cob, potato salad, and a few cucumber slices). My friend ordered the salmon ochazuke, which also fell short, with very minimal toppings for $24. The photos honestly capture the experience better than word. The presentation and portions were just disappointing overall :(

Guys this place is actually worth the hype, the line, and the wait. I still want to try everything on the menu. FOR FOOD THO The actual technique here is to order online and pick up in about 40 minutes. The place is PACKED on weekends, so go right when they open. You can't do anything inside, just get your food and go(vibes are too stressful in there). It's even better off if you wait outside because they got a speaker to call you when it's ready anyways. Now if you're only here for drinks(valid) it's not that bad of a wait. No you cannot make any substitutions to the bento. For drinks they only have oat milk as a substitute. My Order: Salmon in Truffle Soy OBento -- My goodness this is the best bento I've ever had. From the marinated sushi rice to the mashed potatoes literally everything was SO GOOD. The salmon was so fresh and perfectly cut, the truffle with some soy made it extra umami. Mango with Matcha Foam -- I also add mochi in this, which gives another layered texture. They use the perfect ratio of matcha, no need for added sweetness imo. honorable mentions: The karaage and the katsu is really good, depends on your preference of part of chicken. The chicken katsu when we got it, didnt have cheese but in the picture it does so idk.

I first went to Komeya back in 2024 when it first started getting online hype. However, I had some friends visit from out of town and they saw Komeya online and wanted to try. We went around lunchtime on a Saturday and the line was about 20 minutes long, which was honestly shorter than I expected. I got the duck breast bento and strawberry milk matcha. The duck was fine, but I prefer the salmon bento since it just has more flavor overall. Their strawberry matcha is so good though. Definitely one of my favorites in the city. It's also a plus Marina Green and the bridge is so close for some stunning places to eat at.

    Strawberry & Mango Matcha
    Elaine C.

WOWW the internet did not lie about this place. Hands down the BEST and creamiest matcha I've ever had. It was so good with the fresh fruit puree, but if I had to pick, I would choose the strawberry over mango matcha. The food also impressed me. Honestly, the bento felt pretty light, but each component was done so well. The rice was perfectly seasoned, and everything from the sugared sweet potato to the crispy bean sprouts were delicious. I wish I lived near here so I could stop by for matcha every other day :( Would recommend ordering ahead online. In person wait tends to be quite long.

    Chicken Katsu Bento (DD)
    Karlee J.

This place has something for everyone! I love the variety and all of the sides in the bento box! I got the chicken Katsu and it was so flavorful with a really yummy sauces! We also tried the salmon bento box which was good, but in my opinion, the chicken Katsu was better! I ordered a strawberry milk but asked them to hold the Matcha foam! There's a reason this spot is so loved and we will be coming back again! The bento boxes are perfect for to go orders to take to the park or home for a movie night!

    what a cute napkin!
    Katie L.

We only had the matcha, not the bentos, as our friend was coming out of work and would arrive almost to closing The matcha lattes were amazing!! They were simultaneously rich and sweet! I really enjoyed the red bean! The mochi was slightly different than I expected, but in a neutral way, as in I didn't know it could be so soft!

    Salmon in Truffle Soy (DD)
    Cindy N.

This place is soooo good. I've been here twice now. It gets busy so I recommend ordering online for pick up or just coming on the weekdays. Both times I've gotten the salmon rice plate and mango matcha. What can I say? It's just THAT good lol the salmon is so buttery and all the sides they put in the box - the rice, corn, veggies, etc pair so perfectly with it. The matcha is also very high quality! I will definitely be back again. Honestly one of my favs!

    Chicken Karaage (DD)
    Felicia Y.

Yup worth the hype. I will say we ordered in advance and still waited about 40 min (20 past the predicted time) I don't think any particular element was super complex. But the simplicity of it all worked so well together. Each bento came with bean sprouts, potato salad (a fave of mine), sweet potato (sweet with a touch of caramelization), corn (charred nicely with a touch of spicy), pickled cucumber (nice acidity) Saiko miso salmon: The salmon was super super tender and light. The miso added some flavor and salt but did not bog down the fish in saltiness. A touch of wasabi really elevated this. Chicken karaage obento: the chicken was also very tender and juicy. It was not greasy or heavy. I thought it paired well with the mayo and I also appreciated that the mayo was on the side so you could adjust the amount.

OMG I dream about this strawberry matcha drink sometimes. Tried it after having it on my wishlist for almost 8 months???? The most creamiest matcha drink evrrrrrrr. I've heard people get their drinks almost once every week and did not understand the hype but I totally get it now. I did Uber Eats delivery so cannot speak for ambiance, pretty quick service.

Finally came here after hearing so many great things! I came on a Tuesday around 11:30am, and there was a pretty long wait, but wasn't too bad! Limited seating inside and was lucky enough to snag a table in the back. Very solid matcha for sure! I wish there was a soy milk option, but delicious overall. The Salmon in Truffle Soy was also a great bento box! Very filling, with different sides included. Pretty pricey, but would love to come back to try the other matcha options!

The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy inside, with a nice light seasoning that didn't overpower the dish. The curry sauce was rich, slightly sweet, and had just enough depth to keep you going back for another bite. Portion size was great for the price, and everything came out hot and fresh. The service was amazing and they were very attentive. They also offered to take photos and gave us a little gift of hojicha tea since we were celebrating. We got the omakase, which was massive and had 18 courses. They gave us a menu so we knew what to expect for each course, and we ordered some sake. The omakase was delicious and more traditional than other places, each course was so beautiful and delicately made. This is definitely a lot of food, I would recommend the petite omakase in the future as I was stuffed, but it was a great experience if you come hungry! Courses: - Chawan-mushi - super tasty and every bite was delicious and umami forward! - Otsumami - 7 seasonal appetizers presented in a beautiful box, there was a stuffed crab claw in there that was delicious - 4 kinds of sushi - each piece came out one at a time, the first piece was my absolute favorite and blew me away, it was a seared chutoro that immediately melts in your mouth and tastes smokey - Hamachi soup - very tasty and warming soup with hamachi inside, was perfect in between the sushi course - 4 kinds of sushi - A5 Waguyu shabu - this course was extra $10 pp but was so delicious, the wagyu was melt in your mouth and had some grated daikon on top in a ponzu dashi, the toppings help balance the meat so it's overwhelming since it does melt in your mouth, one of my favorite bites! - 4 kind of sushi - they brought out some really great sushis, including more chutoro and an unagi handroll, but I was so stuffed at this point that I felt I couldn't enjoy it as much - miso soup - this soup was so tasty and kind of revived me after all that food, it felt comforting and a great way to end - dessert- I got the hojicha ice cream in a waffle like cookie and it was delicious!

Our drinks were ready in about five minutes, and every single one was excellent. You can tell Shoji puts real intention into the drink program--the flavors were balanced, the presentation was beautiful, and everything felt elevated without being overdone. It is the kind of place where even a simple coffee or matcha feels special. I also loved that there are different areas to enjoy depending on your mood. The back patio is bright, open, and beautifully lit, making it a great spot to sit and relax. Inside, the darker, more intimate seating area has a cozy, quiet, almost hidden-gem feeling that would be perfect for a date or a slower morning coffee. The contrast between the quick-service front and the more atmospheric seating areas makes the whole place feel very well thought out. Shoji is easily one of the best coffee experiences I've had in San Francisco. I'm honestly surprised there isn't already more than one location, because this concept could be a huge hit throughout the city. Great service, beautiful design, fast execution, and truly exceptional drinks. We will absolutely be back.

For $18, you get an incredible spread: * your choice of gyoza, shumai, or tofu * a California roll or avocado roll * a protein of your choice Plus it all comes with edamame, miso soup, and seaweed salad. Honestly? That's my kind of deal. Everything we tried was delicious. In addition to the lunch box, we ordered a dragon roll and a dynamite roll, both of which were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully done. My husband went with the Una Ten Donburi. It was tasty, but at $30, it did feel a bit steep compared to the rest of the menu. The restaurant looked like your typical Japanese style space with the sushi rollers at the entrance and simple tables and decor. I do have two minor negatives worth mentioning. First, the edamame was cold and unsalted. I'm an edamame lover, and nothing beats it hot, freshly steamed, and generously showered in salt. So that was a little disappointing. Second, our server (I believe his name was Kayz) seemed visibly annoyed when we asked to split the check. As a server myself, I know this isn't rocket science, and guests should never be made to feel uncomfortable for something so standard, especially after there had already been a small mix-up with our roll order (we received two dynamite rolls instead of one dynamite and one dragon). We didn't make a fuss at the time because mistakes happen, but the attitude at the end definitely stood out. That said, the food itself was solid, the lunch special is a fantastic value, and overall we still had a good experience. I would absolutely return and would recommend this spot, just hoping for a smoother service experience next time.

However, at the last minute, I went with the $19 Ika Yaki, a whole BBQ squid sliced and saturated in teriyaki sauce with a dab of shichimi mayo (Photo 8). The portion was generous and the texture was firm with enough elasticity. Unfortunately the teriyaki sauce did nothing to enhance the dish, and I wished they served it on the side. I also ordered the $8 Agedashi Tofu, usually a foolproof appetizer for me. It certainly looked right (Photo 9), but I was unpleasantly surprised how tongue-burning hot it was. The cubes of tofu must've just come right out of the deep fryer. The dashi broth helped calm the heat down but a little too late. I'm sure glad I sprung for the $3 bowl of Rice (Photo 10).
