Got six items, BBQ beef, Pepperoni, spicy jalapeño something, I know chicken one, Philly cheesesteak and a sweet strawberry one. All of them were great! The flavor was amazing and the fillings really filled up the inside. The size was a perfect few bites and left enough room to have at least two, maybe three. The location has very limited parking, so be aware and inside was a simple grab and go with a few tables. Service was polite and friendly. I missed coming here on the regular for breakfast when I worked in this area. There used to be a Randall's Grocery store that had receipts for BOGO kolaches. But it's now a Spec's. Their savory kolaches are my favorite. I was reminded by their excellence in an Instagram app for National Kolache Day coming up on March 1st. But I got so excited I didn't want to wait. One of my favorite if not MY favorite quick stop for a breakfast bite in downtownish Austin. They have sooo many options, from regular normal cheese and sausage kolaches to delicious ones with egg and also sweet tarts/treats and such. I came here with my vegetarian friend who had suggested it, and our other friend was surprised to hear that she wanted to get kolaches because he thought they all had meat. She put me on the spinach kolache, which was delicious. It is just spinach with some cheese. I also got two breakfast kolaches: potato, egg & cheese and sausage, egg & cheese. They have a large selection of savoury and fruit kolaches. The patio looked nice, but the chairs had an extensive amount of bird poop on them, so we sat inside instead. The restroom was clean, much to my surprise. The parking lot only has a few spots, and it was full when we got there. I will say that this location does look a little beat up, the interior (and exterior) needs a bit of some remodeling or new look. There are a few tables inside to eat and a bathroom right off the main room, which is not my favorite thing to see or smell that close to the food. They do have a number of brewed coffees to choose from, which is a perk you don't see in many places that serve coffee. I ordered the pumpkin cream cheese muffin instead of a kolache. First, anyone who knows anything about Czech food knows kolaches are filled with sweet items (cream cheese or fruit flavors) and klobasnikis are filled with savory items (meat and veggies). Maybe it was because it was 11am and they swapped out the sweet stuff for the lunch crowd, maybe "Klobasniki Factory" just doesn't roll of the tongue quite the same way as Kolache Factory or maybe they're fine with perpetuating cultural ignorance. Either way they're not to the first and won't be the last. Second, the lady behind the counter this late morning was short and blunt with me to the point I was starting to get offended. I wouldn't say she was being rude but she wasn't trying very hard not to be either. Third, the food. We split 5 klobasnikis. Sausage and gravy, pepperoni pizza, cheesesteak, chicken enchilada and Texas hot. The only one we finished eating and wanted more of was the Texas hot. It must be called that because they heat it up in the microwave until you can only consume it if your mouth is insulated with asbestos. It's not because it's spicy, that's for sure. I mean I can taste that there is suppose to be jalapeno in it but it doesn't bite back at all. That aside it was still really good. The cheese in the hotdog and the sweet bun mix well. The rest of our selections tasted like all the TLC went into making the buns and not their ingredients. Why would you use a red sauce in a chicken enchilada and not a cream sauce? Why does the sauce in the pepperoni pizza taste like straight up ketchup? Just call it pepperoni and leave out the ketchup. The sausage in the sausage and gravy was so over cooked that it was just dried gritty burnt meat specks floating in what would otherwise be a pretty decent gravy. The cheesesteak tasted like it had meat in it but we didn't get any. It was ALL bellpepper. Seriously. No steak. ‍ Did we accidentally get the vegetarian version? The place was clean and organized. The drink fridges were well stocked with soda, milk and other drinks. I would be willing to return at an earlier hour to try the actual kolaches and maybe their coffee some time. PS - The coffee machine was in pieces this time around but it was 11am so I wasn't too bothered by that. They serve sweet and savory food stuffed inside perfect doughy goodness and as long as you have a minute they'll always be making more of whatever is currently missing from the menu. Also, the Lamar location is right next to a major metropolitan hospital...of course they are going to run out of certain options during the morning rush. I also tried a bite of the cream cheese one, but was very full. I am saving that kolache for later. The bacon kolache looked good as well. The other reason I took off a point and would give them a rating of 3.5 is because I persoanlly like cream cheese and fruit together in my kolache. The only problem that I had was when I asked the counter person , about the rewards program abd how it worked. She did not seem to know the information. Though they arrive cold, I can't complain with a short pop in the microwave, they are fluffy and warm.
