I come here pretty often because I like their kolaches and sometimes their donuts, but today's experience really turned me off. When I walked in, it was busy and there was already a situation with another customer. After that was handled, my grandmother and I ordered a kolache, milk, a cinnamon roll, and I asked twice for a half dozen glazed donut holes--but that request was completely ignored. The employee helping us (an older woman with glasses) rushed us through the order and came off as rude. After leaving, I checked my account and saw I was charged $10.49 even though my total was $8.47. I usually tip, but didn't this time because of the service, so I was confused about the extra charge. We went back to the shop calmly to ask about it. Instead of trying to help, the staff were dismissive and defensive. One employee insisted the charge wasn't on their end and told me to contact my bank, even though I was just looking for clarification. There was no effort to solve the confusion or apology for how we were treated. This isn't the first time I've experienced rude service from the same employee--she often rushes customers and is unfriendly. I understand mistakes happen, and the charge itself wasn't a big deal. Sadly, the Texas Gun was sold out by the time I arrived this morning, so I asked for "Peace" instead, although the Peace donut I was handed was, by my estimation, either a "Hook'em Horns" or a "Hail Satan" donut. I really liked it here! I tried the mini donuts filled with raspberry and wow, so fresh and so soft!! The barbacoa taco was insanely good as well!! I highly recommend this place, I feel like it's really underrated. I have to go back and try some of their other donuts, I really appreciate their vast selection of normal donuts because I feel most businesses now try to go above and beyond and getting into ridiculously overdone donuts with too much sugar and impossible to finish let alone enjoy. I stopped in here a few weeks ago to pick up some donuts for my sister's birthday, and was really excited by how many different options they had available! We live near to the area and had always heard how good the food here was, so my sister has wanted to check them out for over two years now and a birthday seemed like the perfect time to celebrate with some donuts! They had some fun, brightly colored donuts, as well as the standard flavors I'm more used to seeing. I've never seen jelly-filled donut holes either, but my sister ended up really liking them. Seating is pretty basic with a few bench/booth styled seats, and it was a bit limited with space, but there was plenty of parking and donut shops are always more of a grab-and-go place than a sit-down restaurant. The donuts were decent, but my sister still prefers Shipley's donuts, as the cake itself was a bit denser and less sweet than the donuts we grew up with. Totally a personal preference when it comes to texture and flavor, but the icing also wasn't as flavorful as she'd expected. Service was fast and friendly, and the donuts were good - just not the best we've ever had. I was a few minutes early for my lash appointment next door when I saw what seemed to be a revolving door going in and out of this donut place. I'm not a huge sweets fan but the sign also said tacos so I went for it. The line was out the door and for good reason. The donuts "looked" amazing and my taco was great!! I don't live particularly close to this place but would drive over for another taco. The hours are great too. They are open every day 5 am to 1 pm. The kids looked happy going in and out the door. The (surprisingly numerous) staff were efficient and friendly, and my food was good even though the selection was very limited at 12:45 noon. Donut Taco Palace....a name that definitely intrigues you as you drive by. Thats why we decided to make sure we stopped on our travels in the Austin area. This was in close proximity to our hotel and we kept seeing it daily. Our front desk lady at the hotel also recommended this spot when we brought it up. We saved our visit for the final day of our trip and I'm a bit sad because we likely would have returned. We arrived to a huge line that stretched outside the doors. The line moved very fast and efficiently. The workers here know what they are doing! We both tried 2 donuts. I'm very picky about donuts and they passed the test. My favorites were their breakfast Chorizo + the lunch Barbacoa. Their salsas are so good with just enough spice. By default, they use a flour tortilla but you can replace it with corn for just 25¢. We stopped by here in August during covid and had a good experience. Everyone was masked appropriately and there is a limit on the number of people inside. I see a lot of comments on here about service but that was not an issue for us. The whole idea of the place is fast and cheap so... yeah. Come early as donut variety will dwindle.
