I used to enjoy this place when it first opened. The service was more than what was expected for a buffet. The whole rolls when ordered were delivered within a good amount of time. Now? Terrible. Went there with my family on Tuesday for dinner. My niece found a hair in her food. We mentioned kindly it to the lady at the register, she came over, said "o.k., sorry " and that was it. Even after showing her the hair still stuck to the plate! A wonderful atmosphere and the employees are absolutely wonderful. I tried sushi for the first time here and it did not disappoint. I like that there is more options on what to choose. I love the boats that carry the sushi they are amazing. I'm a bit a of a clean freak so I did a bit of a search and didn't find a mess and if I did the staff were quick to notice and clean. My husband and I come here and they never disappoint, we came here 2 days ago during lunch for our anniversary and the sushi was so fresh, the buffet was fresh and the customer service was amazing. Decent price 12.95 per person and that includes special menu items that you can order from the sushi bar, but just a heads up they charge for leftovers so make sure you grab what your going to eat. Don't be surprised if you leave to go to the buffet section and come back to a clean area with a refilled drink they waste no time in making sure their customers are taken care of. I don't mind eating at Kobe Buffet. It has good buffet food and you can order what type of sushi you like. The sushi is, well, average for a sushi buffet. Just one gripe: STOP THAT CHEF FROM SQUIRTING CHOCOLATE SAUCE ON EVERY FRICKEN ROLL THAT GOES BY HIM. This place not only is set up nice, but it has great service and wonderful people working. I tried the kami kazi roll which was absolutely wonderful. Then I tried something like the super crunch roll only it had salmon on top and spicy crab inside, and that was just divine. The consensus is that this place is great for what it is.. fast, convenient, and plenty of options if you tend to be a nibbler like I am, often caught tasting from everyone's plate when you're out to dinner! Order the sashimi combo or off of the roll menu if you choose - they are both included in the buffet. Also make sure to check out the fresh grill in the rear of the restaurant! The beef was a little tough but there are other options and the veggies and noodles are steaming and delicious and cooked right in front of you! Not a real bad place to eat, the service is pretty good, the non sushi buffet is pretty good with some very nice items. I was very surprised to find oysters on the half shell, and snow crab legs, amongst other great items. The sushi is of fair quality, some of the more traditional like tuna, and salmon were of low quality that any self respecting sushi chef wouldn't dare plate it. I found the sushi rice to be either stale, or under cooked. Some of the creations were kinda scary. I found one with melted cheese on it... When my family and I were seated the floor surrounding our table was sticky, as was our table. We used a baby wipe to clean off out table. Their method of cleaning was a little unorthodox. A person spilled a soda on the floor the employees cleaned it up using newspaper (now we know why the floor was sticky) rather then a mop. Now don't get me wrong it's worth the $17 a head for the quality of food but ya get what you pay for so don't expect top grade grub. read more

I have driven past this place for a couple of weeks, while visiting family in Modesto, anticipating opening day. We decided to come on the third day after they had opened. Got here at 5:30, was seated promptly, and ate enough sushi to make ourselves sick! I usually dislike buffet sushi, as it is usually made hours before and is stale and tasteless. This was freshly and constantly made. As we were leaving at 6:30, it was so packed, and people were standing at the sushi line, desperate for any piece! Price was good, food good, service was okay, mostly young people who may have not had any previous server experience. Plus, I always am confused on tipping on buffet service. Eh. It's an all you can eat sushi buffet in Modesto. Coming from the peninsula, expectations were not high. Sushi was okay except most was drizzled in mayo and teri sauce. Salmon sushi was good. The service is always great, the only downfall is the price. Went for dinner tonight with my family. Was excited about all you can eat crab legs. I knew they would be small legs but I did not think they would taste like the crabs rear end. The food was all around gross. The sushi was eh and the buffet tasted wrong in so many ways. The fish was fishy tasting (and I love fish) and the meat was tough and the flavors were odd. You'd spend less at an ACTUAL sushi restaurant and enjoy the food and service even better AND reach a full stomach. $16.95 dinner is over-priced for what you get. We were a party of 5 for dinner, and after taxes, buffet ticket, and soda... our bill was $96.00 excluding gratuity. You can get a lot of great Sushi locally for the same $96 spent elsewhere. Lunch at $12.95 may be worth it once the "Grand Opening" craze goes away. You come here mostly because it's "different" in Modesto, like c'mon... SUSHI BOATS. This is by far the best Sushi Buffet I've been to in the Valley. The prices where decent, the restaurant was very clean, and the food was great (both in taste, quality, and presentation. Since I'm a fan of sushi rolls, I knew that I wanted to come here and try some sushi buffet when I was in town for Christmas. It didn't disappoint! I loved the fact that for under $10, I could sample a ton of different rolls. I've eaten at several sushi buffets in the past, and the sushi usually isn't fresh; not the case here! Everything I had was fresh and yummy! I didn't eat much of the Chinese buffet (my sister had it a few weeks prior and didn't like it), but I did enjoy what I did have (an eggroll and cream cheese wontons).
