Came here for a private event on the outside deck. The ambiance was fantastic, there was a fire pit, a live band, a beautiful view, and perfect weather, overall a very nice place to wind down after a long week. Since it was a private event I didn't see the menu instead got to sample some hors d'oeuvres, my favorite were the brisket tacos (has to have the pickle!) and the pork belly lettuce wrap. The best part is that everything is locally grown which equates to fresh good. read more

I stayed at this hotel over a couple of weekends recently in Austin and I had the pleasure of eating here a couple of times. Every time was absolutely amazing... The first time I ate there and got a glimpse of the genius was when I had a late brunch. Some friends had delayed our meeting and it very much worked out for me in this case. I sampled the biscuits and gravy... the portion size was laughably huge in fact. The biscuits themselves were very unique and delicious, almost a hybrid between a traditional biscuit and a scone, they have a slightly crunchy exterior with a firm but not too dense interior that is all quite satisfying. Obviously the eggs were cooked to perfection and everything else was done absolutely right. So, great brunch.... The following weekend I found myself there for an early dinner before meeting friends out and there were several awesome things on the menu. My excellent server recommended the Bulgogi Bison ribs, I took him up on it and no regrets. Hands down one of the best things I've eaten in my life. I also tried another time the Braised Lamb over the savory bread pudding and it was also amazing, truly exceptional kitchen and service at this restaurant. I regret that I never knew about it when I was living in Austin, because I would have gone there constantly. But as it is, I'll stay at this hotel every visit just so that I have the option to eat here. read more

As far as a Valentine's Day visit, Knotty pulled our all the stops. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly hostess and shown into the restaurant that had been filled with decorations and live music. The atmosphere was very relaxing, while still being entertaining. Our waiter was incredibly knowledgeable of the special occasion menu, as well as the wine selections. We definitely want to go back to experience Knotty on an average night. The salad was incredibly fresh and flavorful, and the steak was one of the best I'd ever had. Everything felt of great quality, and the experience was top notch. If you're looking for date night or just a relaxed evening with friends, I'd heavily recommend. read more

I discovered Knotty Deck after attending a private Yelp elite event here. If it weren't for that event, I wouldn't have found this hidden gem. It's hard to convince people to come here for Happy Hour. But there are many compelling reasons: 1. Ample FREE parking 2. Plenty of space - no wait 3. AWESOME ambience (the hotel lobby is stunning) 4. BEST patio experience in North Austin - natural forested feeling with cozy modern décor. 5. Great crafted cocktails - good selection of barrel aged whiskey 6. Knotty fries!!!!! The pictures do not lie. They are as good as they look. 7. Ahi tuna guac. Yes, that is a thing, and it's tasty. 8. Extremely friendly service 9. You don't have to yell to hear yourself talk like at most of the restaurants in the Domain at happy hour. 10. Consistently great. I'm giving this place 3 stars. The decor is nice and the location is good within the Renaissance hotel. However, we had a couple of issues, which probably aren't priorities for most people, but are important to me. I ordered a breakfast hash. When it arrives, it's full of sweet corn. No mention of that on the menu. Not everyone is a fan of sweet corn-Why is that not listed as an ingredient on the menu?? Our server was kind of abrupt too so I didn't feel comfortable sending it back. Just list out the main ingredients on the menu. Second, I like to eat cage free eggs. When ordering I told my server I'd take the eggs if they were cage free, and if not, I'd take the food without the eggs. The server goes away to check, comes back and tells me the eggs are cage free, and I have the eggs. Fast forward to the next morning and I'm in the renaissance club lounge, asking if the eggs are cage free (like they are at the knotty deck)-the woman working in the bar was very helpful, made some phone calls, and let me know that neither eggs at the lounge or the knotty deck are cage free. I'm frustrated that somewhere down the line, I was lied to at the knotty grill. It's not an allergy, but it's a personal choice and I don't understand the need/reasoning to lie to the customer. read more

Came in on a Saturday morning for brunch. Beautiful patio! Unfortunately that was all that was good. Waited about 15 minutes to be greeted even though there were only two other tables sat. Ordered a bottle of champagne for the table and after 40 minutes of waiting and multiple inquiries canceled our order. The food also took 40+ minutes to come out (despite the aforementioned two tables) and was average if not sub par. I ordered an egg white omelet and it was very oily. My friend ordered the grilled cheese and the cheese was solidified on the inside, giving the impression it had sat under a heat lamp for the full 40 minutes. Overall disappointing. We won't be back :( Only giving 2 stars for the ambiance and our friendly waiter. Very upsetting that we were never approached by the manager, despite being told she'd come talk to us. read more

Im a local Austinite and the Rennaissance restaurant and bar have quickly become one of my favorite spots for brunch, lunch, happy hour and dinner. The restaurants view overlooking a roaring fire and out onto the hill country is extremely peaceful and luxurious. Great food. Great setting with a view, excellent food and professional level service. We were tempted by the steaks that were priced a bit lower than other restaurants with prime steaks. The waiter said the chefs had specific training on preparing the steaks to perfection. For that particular evening we opted for a burger and for a seasonal salad ($9) with shrimp added ($7). We also ordered a side of brussel sprouts served chorizo (spicy!) and nuoc cham sauce ($7). Everything was top quality ingredients, cooked well and delicious. The burger was ordered to be medium rare. It came out exactly that doneness. This burger ($15) came topped with brisket and grilled onions.The brisket was very juicy and also had a great smoky flavor. It transformed the burger into a flavor fest. The salad had a housemade caesar dressing that was unusual and delicious - no sardines but a hint of chipotle gave it an edge.The shrimp were large, firm and flavorful. I explained to the waiter I needed to avoid gluten and dairy and they served me the salad with the exact alternatives the waiter had proposed. Their draft beers are diverse and very tasty ($6-7). The bar has many of it own cocktails and there is a good wine list we will explore on aother visit. We went hoping to sit outdoors on a 75 degree evening. We went about 7:45 pm and there was one table available on the deck. The rest of the evening, as people arrived some did get a table that freed up, others either sat on a couch at the side, or a high table with tall chairs. There is a good amount of space between tables, at least 10 feet and you feel like you are able to have a private conversation. Seating is also available indoors. read more

While it was around noon, it took some time to be seated... place was basically empty except for a few people at the bar and one table of guests on the deck area. In addition, we practically had to case the place to find a hostess. After being seated... again significant time before anyone approached us, we decided not to push our luck and left without anyone none the wiser. Went to Knotty Deck & Bar today for brunch. Scenery is great and the food was good, but the service was kind of crappy. We waited for about 15-20 min for drinks that included water with lemons cappuccino, lemonade, apple juice, and a mimosa. Server brought out waters (no lemons) and mimosa. Yup everything was forgotten about. It was not packed at all and still took a while to bring out our food. We decide to even cancel certain items because we knew how long it would take. Server pretty much forgot a lot of our items. I want to try this place again, but I'm very hesitant to try after today. Kind of disappointed read more

Arrival was not so good. We seated ourselves after asking if it was okay. We were ignored for at least 10-15 minutes. We almost walked out, but I decided to go up to the bar and tell the two ladies that were training that we need menus. I was handed only 1 menu when there was two of us. Then when it was time to order I ask what was the best and she started to read the menu to me. When someone ask what is good or what are you known for tell them one thing NOT read the menu! Then when I got my food there was a sharp piece of thick plastic in my food. The taste of the food was excellent, but experience was awful. I will not return because of it. Wild boar ribs, a must try!! They're tasty - seasoned to perfection and the meat literally falls off the bone! I also had the Ahi Tuna dip and it was pretty good and the portion was huge! There was no way I could have finished both items. The prices are very reasonable as well. I'm in Austin for a week and was looking for a restaurant near my hotel, this fit the bill! Great for dinner and drinks out on the terrace. Had the steak and tomorrow mozz salad. Pretty good. Want to come back for the burger and loaded fries. The dessert was pretty awful (and just odd selections in the first place). The Mexican trio wasn't very sweet and the Bavarian cream dessert is like styrofoam. Hoping the dessert menu is seasonal (and if not, Amy's ice cream is within walking distance). Close, but still a work in progress. We went for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Food - My wife had "the griddle" and loved it (Belgian waffle with ginger and apple topping). I went for the short rib hash which was passable, but a bit dry and the over medium eggs I ordered were fully cooked. Service - Polite but a bit awkward and seemingly over-caffeinated. Worst of all, the guy who seemed to be the manager was either hovering over the dining area or berating the servers for slight mishaps, creating a very uncomfortable atmosphere. Ambiance - There is a beautiful deck in the trees. Overall - We'll probably be back for drinks on the deck, but won't eat here again unless we see that the mood lightens up. read more

This is one of the best restaurants located inside a hotel that I have been too. I was staying in the hotel and got in late from my flight. I decided to go downstairs and try out the restaurant. I was able to quickly seat myself, and even though it was late at night the waitress was very attentive and immediately met me at the table as I sat down. The menu sounded fantastic but I made a decision to get the brisket mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was so good. The brisket was perfectly tender and the seasoning within the mac and cheese was phenomenal. I almost went back the next night to have the same meal. Definitely a great restaurant. I had last stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Austin Hotel two years ago and had eaten at the Banderas-A Texas Bistro Restaurant in the hotel. Wasn't too impressed. I was at customer site next door and got out late, 9:35 to be exact. I was dreading eating at the hotel and didn't want to drive. Most restaurants in the area close around 10:00pm. I went so far to walk to Zoe's Kitchen, which was closed. It was windy and cold out. I didn't want to lose a good parking space in the Renaissance Hotel parking lot and didn't feel like driving to eat. I walked into the area, in the hotel, where the Banderas-A Texas Bistro used to be. It is now a empty banquet room. The Knotty Deck & Bar is in the Bar area. Furniture was replaced. There is also an outdoor area to eat at that has a fire pit. I spoke to a server, Kelly, who was very polite and attentive. She used to work for Banderas-A Texas Bistro. Kelly said I could sit wherever I chose. I sat down, ordered an Iced Tea, Chicken Tortilla Soup, and the Roasted Organic Chicken. Iced Tea was good. The Chicken Tortilla Soup was very good. It had Tortilla strips, Chicken strips, Avocado, Asadero Cheese, Spinach, and a creamy Pico De Gallo soup broth. When the soup bowl is broth out, all of the ingredients are in the bowl, minus the soup broth. The server has a metal carafe, containing the Pico De Gallo soup broth that is poured into the bowl in front of you. It was a cold night and the soup hit the spot. The Roasted Organic Chicken came out later. It has creamy Polenta, greens, and Chicken Jus. The chicken was very good. The restaurant touts getting most ingredients from local sources. I noticed that the restaurant wasn't on Yelp. I added it and included some pictures of the dishes that I had along with a picture of the Dinner and Late Night Menu. The server, Kelly was very attentive, very enthusiastic, and accommodating. Very nice person. Give it a try. read more

I came here for a Yelp elite event with my boyfriend and am anxious to return! The outdoor patio allowed for a nice summertime breeze and there was plenty of comfortable seating. The pork tacos are to die for, between the house made pickles and mini tortillas, I could easily several of them! I ate breakfast at this restaurant (in the Renaissance Hotel) where I'm attending a conference. When I told the waitress I couldn't have dairy and asked if a certain dish had dairy in it, she asked, "Is that gluten?" I told her no, that gluten was in wheat. Then she just shrugged and didn't offer to find out. Later (when she brought the food I chose because I thought it would be safe), I was busy exchanging information with other attendees and just started eating. Several bites in, I realized I was tasting butter. After getting confirmation that there was butter, I was not happy because I'll probably awaken tomorrow with swollen eyes and a rashy face and, possibly, exhaustion. (The more dairy I eat, the worse the reaction.) At lunch time, I didn't want to go back there. I finally decided to go next door to Zoe's, told the guy at the register my problem, and he immediately recommended the appropriate bowl for me. I forgot to order my drink because I was telling him what happened at the hotel. When I realized it and started to dig out my credit card again, he said, "Why don't you take the drink free, since you had a hard time." That's customer service that builds goodwill and makes me want to come back. As for this place, they need to train the wait staff on what's in the food and how to make recommendations for common food sensitivities. If they can't learn that, they shouldn't be serving food. One of the ladies at our table had an allergy she could actually die immediately from, as many people do. Train!!! read more

I was staying at the hotel for a conference. After a swim at the pool I walked up the stairs to the deck and was able to sit in my suit and have an amazing meal. Lilith, our server, made great recommendations and was patient with my party as we took some time to choose from the varied and delicious menu. It was so hard to choose! I ordered the shrimp and grits and a side of brussel sprouts. AMAZING! Grits- so creamy and perfectly seasoned. Tender not over cooked shrimp. I wanted to lick the bowl of the brussel sprouts- they were crispy with bacon and a maple sauce. My Moscow Mule was the perfect level of spicy ginger. There were so many yummy and unique dishes.
