I stopped by for a Wednesday lunch with my niece and nephew. Knockout is located off of coast hwy and carlsbad blvd so parking is pretty scarce. I ended up parking in the shopping center across the street. There was a sign in Knockout that said free parking for 1 hour in the back lot though. The restaurant is pretty small with friendly orange and yellow themed colors and a huge burger on the wall with boxing gloves. I ordered the heavyweight for me (1/2lb), middleweight for my niece (1/4lb) and lightweight for my nephew (2 sliders). They also have a featherweight with 1 slider which is good for younger kids. The soda choices include Coke, Sweetened Raspberry Ice Tea, Sprite, Root Beer, Orange Fanta and probably one more (I would guess diet since I can't remember it). They also had a lemonade dispenser up by the counter. There are 4-5 of the red ketchup/yellow mustard colored bottles spread around the table's people were eating at. There weren't any additional ketchup bottles left but the waitress provided me one after I asked when she brought over the food. There were 3-4 orders before us so the food probably took about 15-20 minutes before we received our food. The first thing I looked for was the salt and pepper shakers or packets which I didn't see any there. It turned out I didn't need them though because the shoestring fries were seasoned very well on their own. My niece and nephew also agreed the fries tasted good. On to the burgers, the heavyweight was two 1/4lb burgers on top of each other. The burger reminded of eating one on the grill outside the house or at the beach. Their knockout sauce tasted similar to in-n-out's to me. While my niece, nephew and myself have quite a few other burger places we prefer over this, we all enjoyed our meals. Surprisingly good, inexpensive hole in the wall along the Coast Highway in Carlsbad. We were looking for a quick bite and chose them because the local taco shop was closed (it was New Year's Day). Ordered a half dozen 'rounders' (their version of sliders) and a heavyweight (the 1/2 burger) for me, and the fries. Like a popular chain I won't mention, that is almost everything they have on their 'regular' menu. They do run some special burgers and have Chicago Dogs as well. I also should mention that their prices were really good...the 1/2 pounder was $5 and well worth it. Everything else is less. They cook everything to order, so it did take ten minutes or so for the food to come up. But it was worth the wait. The beef was cooked perfectly, very flavorful and served on warm buns. They serve the burgers with their 'special sauce' (pretty close to tartar) but they don't overdo it. Fries were piping hot and really, really good. Good burgers - hence the 4 stars. Fries were alright - not the best I've had, but still decent fare. My kids loved the burgers! Now to service: I went there at 5pm in the middle of the week. Lots of places are getting busy at the dinner hour. I happened to be in a bit of a rush. I wasn't stressed when I walked in and placed my order - but there was only one person working there at dinner hour. One person to ring up orders, cook food, clean tables, etc. so I had to wait extra time for my food - because she couldn't make food and ring up customers simultaneously. I won't go there when I'm pressed for time again. I think it took about 30+ minutes to get our 3 orders of burgers and fries. Upon further reflection, I am unsure if she was wearing gloves when handling the money and then going over to cook the food. For a super casual meal, this is an a-ok spot. This burger joint is a little warn but given that it seems ok to cruise in here in your bathing suit and cover up. Bf and I split the slider combo and I thought the burgers themselves had good flavor. The roll it was on was very meeehhh. It just tasted like plain ol' white bread. There's something about a good burger. It stays with you. And when that burger is paired with the perfect seasoned fries, you stay with the burger. Knockout used to be the hangout spot in high school and even though they feed tourists and locals alike, they're an absolute favorite. Sliders have cheese, lettuce, and mayo and are delicious if you want something to snack on. The seasoned fries are pretty much just old bay seasoned, they're the best I've had. Reminds me of east coast style spicy fries. The theme is boxing and it can be abrasive, but it's worth it to stay inside and watch the cook as she works at the grill. read more

Animal haters. I get the whole sanitary thing and I respect that. The thing is, I have a bird with a harness/diaper & leash and has her wings clipped. She is very quiet (completely silent) and hangs out on my shoulder all the time. (Also has a bath everyday). I live up in Hollywood/LA and I've had my bird for a bit over two months. (She's completely trained and friendly). I've been all over places like Beverly Hills and inside grocery stores and Cheesecake Factory, Bloomingdales, ZGallerie, etc. basically a lot of really decent places and I've never had anyone say anything. Ever. Just ask to take a photo with her. I take her everywhere I go and this was literally the LAST place I'd ever think would tell me that she couldn't be inside. To top it off, it was raining and FREEZING! They couldn't make an exception? We literally ordered food and we're taking it to go once it was done. This place is just a hole in the wall, sort of like an Albertacos or something and I just didn't expect this place to be the first place to tell me not to have her in there. If I had been told before perhaps somewhere more, Idk, appropriate? I may have been less angry, but to have this hole in the wall restaurant kick her out in the cold rain just really ticked me off. This is probably a dumb thing to rant about, but I love animals and if it were me running the restaurant I would have let whomever stay out of the pouring rain even with a llama. As for food, it's alright. Fresh meat. Burger overall not that bad. Not amazing, but definitely somewhere with a pretty good tasting burger. Like an in-&-out or something. As for speed, I'd say okay. The burgers are great, the atmosphere fun, and they have the World's greatest french fries. We've been eating at Knockout for years. The owner is great. He remembers us every time we come in. Burned buns, overcooked meat, disorganized and on the dirty side with music so loud you couldn't carry on a conversation. We watched our burgers burn while only one person took orders and cooked at the same time. Too much for one person so who could blame her? The whole place had a dirty, neglected feel. It included dried old mustard caked on tops of the containers. The orange paint scheme really shows the dirt. Bad color if you aren't going to clean or keep the place fresh. I try to be as much of a vegetarian as possible but every once in awhile I get an unstoppable urge for a cheap hamburger and seasoned french fries which brings me to Knockout Burger. This used to be my number one choice based upon quality and price. You really can't do much better especially if you order the quarter pound burger with all the fixings. On the flip side (no pun intended) Knockout Burger does have a few issues. The first one is the issue of slow delivery. It can take more than 30 minutes to get your burger if there happens to be a line of any sort - and there usually is a line. And the last time I ordered one it arrived semi-warm which was a bit of a disappointment. If you're looking for a good, cheap hamburger with seasoned french fries then this is the place for you. If you are looking for speedy delivery and good service then this is probably not the place for you. Either way - the choice is yours. read more

This is by far the favorite burger that I've ever had. I always opt for the middleweight with fries, and I am always satisfied with my choice. I love the burger, its a smaller patty which I like, with all the toppings, including amazing pickles. The "knockout" sauce is pretty much the same as In N Out's sauce, a Thousand Island type, only thicker. It's very good with the fries. We ate here tonight as we drove around searching for something to eat and remembered we always wanted to try it. We got the "middleweight" meal which is a cheeseburger, fries, and soda for $7. The burgers are grilled and the taste immediately reminded me of In-N-Out burgers. The fries were shoestring fries - crispy and good. Staff was friendly and there are a few tables inside to sit. I would say this is in between a 3.5-4 star place. We love this place if we are in the village for a quick meal. We usually get the middleweight, which is a 1/4 pound burger. The burger is very tasty, though I think if I could eat 1/2 pound, I would be happier. The reason being is the buns are very thick, and I am assuming a larger burger would be thicker, on the same size bun. We usually get 2 burgers and an order of fries, and it costs us $10. Not a bad price, and a big reason we keep coming back!! The fries are meh, but I have strange taste in french fries. Everyone else I know who has eaten here likes the fries a lot. I have to say, the staff is always very friendly! The place is very laid back, with 8-10ish small tables inside. Give or take a few. This is my 2nd time ever in Carlsbad (1st time was in Aug 2011, check out my reviews on 2 eateries in the area) and my family was meeting other family members at the Carlsbad Inn Resort. So 3 of us walked over to Knockout Burgers to take back food to the pool at the resort. We decided on Knockout Burgers. So we walk in and order a $75 (approx.) order for 8 people. The menu is pretty damn small and the prices are so-so. We chit chatted with the guy & girl behind the counter while they cooked our food and apparently they are married and the girls brother owns the place. They were really cool. We get back and find out they forgot a burger, i guess they should have double checked better. Oh yeah...they also messed up 2 other burgers by not putting lettuce on one and cheese on the other. We didnt wanna walk all the way back to complain. I got the heavyweight (double cheeseburger) combo and it was decent, nothing too memorable. They make it sound like its gonna be HUGE but it was pretty basic and small. It says K.O. sauce comes on it but i never tasted any kind of sauce. I will say the fries were really good....nice and crispy. So the food was decent but nothing memorable, the prices are so-so, it wasn't a big burger but the sister and brother-in-law who were there that day were nice. Ambiance: I got my food to go, but as for the place itself, it's a small, less-than-cozy type of place. To eat there would mean smelling like hamburgers by the time you leave. The KO sauce that goes on all of their burgers is basically a special sauce like McDonald's. It's a Thousand Island based dressing that goes well with the burger. The buns were fresh and good and the meat, normally cooked to medium, was very tasty and juicy. The seasoned fries were a little overcooked, but that could be due to the fact that she was working alone. However, the seasoned salt she put on them really set them off. Very good! I caught a glimpse of a chicken burger while I was there and it really looked good as well. Overall: I give this place four stars. A few improvements here and there and this place would be top notch. I'm pretty surprised this place doesn't have a higher rating than it does. Went here today for lunch with a coworker due to our intense burger cravings, and was not left disappointed. Many reviewers have been comparing to In N Out and 5 Guys but in my opinion it trumps In N Out and would say it's reminiscent of 5 guys HOWEVER, Knockout trumps them with their fries. I prefer thinner fries versus steak fries. I was craving Jalapeños and was delighted to see an option with the 'Patti Special', and my coworker go the 'Bacon Ranch Burger'. Both burgers were seasoned to perfection, juicy but not soggy, and packed with all sorts of fixings. I got the middleweight (1/4 lb) and didn't even struggle to finish! The fries were well seasoned (might be a little too seasoned for some, so ask for lightly salted) and were crisp throughout. The only downfall would be just the one cheese option (cheddar) I would have loved a Pepperjack on my burger. The service was friendly with a family vibe, and the place was clean. There were only a few tables, so I've heard it can get busy. The only downfall would be that I wish there was outside seating, but not much they can do there. All in all I would definitely say I will be back there again.. its only been a few hours and I'm already craving the kick of my delicious burger! My wife Suzan and I stopped in here for a burger last Saturday afternoon. My wife has been here several times with her friends, but it was my first visit. First impression was that it is a very small place. Just a few tables probably seats 20-25. The burgers are great! I was not expecting to be this impressed with the food. Everything is cooked fresh to order so it takes a little longer, it's not fast food. Suzan got a hamburger with fries and a drink. I got a double cheese burger Matrix style which included pineapple, jalapenos, and teriyaki sauce. This thing was delicious. The burger patties were thick juicy and cooked just perfectly. My son and I cruised down to Carlsbad to have a fun Saturday afternoon and have some lunch that's when we stumbled on Knockout Burger. There was a huge wait, about 20-25 minutes. But, we looked around at the other people waiting and they didn't seem concerned so we thought, this place must be good if people are patiently waiting this long!!! The cheese burgers that we ordered were good, but we didn't care for the fries. They were skinny and they weren't seasoned as advertised on the menu. When we asked for more Lawry's seasoning, the tattooed worker standing next to seasoning said "They are seasoned!". We just looked at the fries, and said to ourselves "No amount of seasoning is going to save these fries, lets this one go". They ended up in the trash. Overall rating though, the burgers were good.
