I can officially say I've had a New York Bagel now. It was really good toasted garlic bagel with cream cheese lox and capers. The Los was extra smokey with very little sea cood smell. The ratio of schmear to lox and bagel was perfect. The service was good and the environment was nice. Still it was just a bagel. Food is on point, if made correctly. Stick to their delicious bagels and cream cheese - almost every egg sandwich I've gotten from them were served with egg shells. Wait times are atrocious and calling in order to pick up even more tedious. One would think calling in an order would help save time but not one staff member near the cash register is willing to help as it seems staff is only there to serve those waiting in line. The only way to get the food you ordered in advance is to flag down SEVERAL staff members as they will pass you off to another staff person or they'll simply outright refuse to help you. I once called in order only to have the staff member tell me it'll be 20 minutes, but if I came in there would be no line. No - I'm calling to place an order to pick up. I asked him to take the order to which he replied he would, only to discover in store that he hadn't placed my order. I then had to wait IN THE LINE to get my order taken and placed. What is the point? If this establishment, most obviously loved by the community, can step up their efforts in customer service and completely change how they manage their queue (insane lines/wait times) only then can this be the place to go. Otherwise, I'd rather make my breakfast at home, without the stress and insane wait time. read more

I would honestly give 10 stars if it were possible. This place is beyond wonderful. One of my best friends lives in Bushwick and when planning our visit from Pittsburgh, I told her I wanted a good NY bagel and she found this place. My husband kept saying, "I mean, it's just a bagel, right?" We were there for three days and ate here each day. The bagels are giant and flavorful, the cream cheese is decadent, the coffee is other-world good. It's always busy, but the workers are efficient as all hell and things move at a good pace. After a confusing trip to the pet store, I stumbled across Knickerbocker Bagel on Yelp and noted its overwhelmingly positive reviews. Why hadn't I heard of this place before? It took me a while to find out, as I had to wait on line for 30 minutes before placing my order, but once I finally sat down with my everything bagel, I learned why. This was not a bagel, it was bread! It did not have the typical yeasty texture that I have grown accustomed to in high quality New York bagels. The scallion cream cheese was also a disappointment, as its texture was grainy, and the amount provided would have been more than enough for 3 bagels! The iced coffee was okay. read more

I don't know why I keep going back. I mean, I do live right across the street and their food can be really good. But they've messed up on 4 out of 5 of my last orders and whenever I try to speak up they get defensive and make me feel like the asshole. The last 3 times (in a row) they didn't put mayo or ketchup on my bacon egg and cheese. I mean, I get messing up / forgetting once or twice, here or there, but how tf do you forget 3 times in a row?! To keep this story going, they also messed up on my girlfriend and roommates orders in the same trip today. Very simple orders - like regular lox spread on a regular bagel, we got lox with chives on jalapeno... But by FAR the most frustrating thing about this place is their ordering system. It's a big convoluted mess and they are very stubborn in their ways. They even tried to put up signs with a bunch of rules to follow, instead of going with a system that people can recognize and actually works. You're forced to order before you even have a chance to see what's on the menu and if you aren't ready immediately they will skip you for the next person in line, then when you finally order your counter clerk disappears for 5-10 minutes while everyone stands around the cash register confused. Meanwhile the 3-4 people who ordered after me push thru the crowd and pay for their food because apparently it takes a really long time to make a bacon egg and cheese whilst forgetting the condiments. This is normally a nice spot for us to eat. For my girlfriends birthday, we decided to hop over and get breakfast since this is in walking distance and this was a nicer, relatively inexpensive spot in the neighborhood. First things first, I had my order for an "egg everything bagel" repeated back to me, then watched the employee grab the entirely wrong bagel. My girlfriend ordered a wrap, granted for the first time, but the wrap itself was disgusting. The "home fries" just tasted like stewed potatoes. That's not how you make home fries, that's how you make a messy, mushy wrap. Also, might be a good idea to get employees that know how to make coffee drinks if you're going to offer coffee drinks. Not sure if you're aware, but a latte isn't 10oz of milk and a shot of espresso. That's a recipe for coffee flavored milk. I'm not sure what happened this visit, because Knickerbocker Bagel is normally a decent place to eat, but it just made for a shit start to my girlfriends birthday. I obviously don't expect employees to know it's someone's birthday, but I expect them to be competent at their jobs and act like they care.
