Really good bagels and bagel sandwich options, from classic to adding some NY local flavor like pastrami. The employees at the register were incredibly friendly, and those in the prep area were working fast! I got a sausage, egg and cheese - but substituted the cheddar for scallion cream cheese (at a 1.75 up charge). The egg was fluffy, the sausage had good flavor but unfortunately the cream cheese was essentially a condiment - spread incredibly thin and not worth the extra. Good to know for future. Not a ton of seating, most people took their goods to go. Would certainly return! read more

Long overdue bagel fix. I finally gave Black Seed Bagel a try after walking past it countless times and always seeing a crowd. Figured it had to be decent. Cozy little spot clean, bright, and well-kept. I went with a build your own: plain cream cheese, avocado, and tomato on a bagel. Visually, it looked solid. But I had asked for it toasted and what I got was just...warm. Any New Yorker will tell you there's a very clear line between the two. Taste wise? It was ok. Nothing memorable. The cream cheese was light (maybe too light), and while I appreciated the thin slices of avocado and tomato, they slid out with every bite. A little annoying, but manageable with a mountain of napkins. Would I go back? Maybe. But I'm not rushing. read more

I was staying nearby and had a few options to try, but thanks to others being closed or only offering to-go I wound up at Black Seed and ended up coming back a few times to start my days. It was a popular spot, with lots of people ordering coffee and breakfast to go. They even have a little takeout window outside for quick grabs. The inside only had a handful of wall bar seating, but it was enough for quick visits. Their coffee blend was excellent, strong and black. They had many bagel choices, easy to see which ran out. I got the pastrami egg and cheese and it was a scrumptious blend of melted cheese, egg, and well seasoned beef. It was heartier than bacon, which made it more satisfying. Walked in for a quick brunch, decided on trying the black seed BLT and after, liked it so much bought 4 everything bagels to take home along with some cream cheese spread and lox and dill. The cashier was super helpful, and friendly! He made sure to double check my order and assisted me throughout. There is a small counter on the left side when you walk in with bar stools- def more of a place where you get your food and go but if you had some time to kill like me, I ate my blt, enjoyed the music, the coffee machine going off in the back and read a book. I've been wanting to go to a black seed bagel location for the longest time. I'm completely happy everything was as I expected it to be. Bagels were incredibly fresh saw the baker take em out as I was coming in. Ingredients as well were fresh, the person that took my order was very friendly even told me to have a beautiful day lol. Stopped by here for a quick breakfast on the way to a friends place after being on the train all morning. Cute little spot for a quick bite and coffee. The staff greeted us on the way in and service was quick and friendly. The prices is where I dinged some points. I know New York and especially a cafe can be pricey but it would be nice if the price matched the portion sizes. We got a lox bagel on pumpernickle and I felt like the smoked salmon was so thin and only 2 slices with majority of the sandwich being onions and cream cheese. We decided to pop by their Williamsburg location in the early morning on the 4th of July for a quick breakfast. They had just opened, so no one was there but the staff. Inside is your typical fast casual ordering layout. A main counter, open air kitchen and prep area and several standup counters where you can stand and eat. Unfortunately, there is no public restroom (even for paying customers). Service: 3/5. As mentioned above, no one except the staff was present at Black Seed during our visit, so it was to be expected that service would be quick and efficient. When ordering, the staff member that was manning the register had the quietest voice known to man. We had to ask on several occasions for him to repeat himself, with each time not being any louder then the previous. A bit frustrating to say the least. Fortunately, our order came out relatively quickly and correct. Food: 3/5. Tasty bagel, just wish it had more sustenance for the price paid. We went with the Classic 2.0, which contains pastrami spiced salmon lox, scallion cream cheese, pickled green tomato and red onion. The flavor combo of the lox and pickled tomato works nicely, especially with our choice of a pumpernickel everything bagel. The lox was delicious, however the extremely skimpy potion of 1 piece was a bit of a letdown. For the price of $15, I was hoping for a bit more. read more

It was fine, although nothing extraordinary. It didn't seem like my bagel had been toasted at all though, which was a little disappointing. The shop itself is pretty cute and the ordering/pick-up process was efficient. The staff are always friendly. Overall, the bagels aren't bad, they're just nothing special. Service was pretty good, cashier was kind and the food came out quickly despite being a busy Sunday at noon. That being said, I would've waited a lot longer if my bagel could've been any better. Perhaps my experience was a fluke, but I didn't have to wait anymore than five minutes for my order (I timed it, hah!) Came on a Saturday late morning and saw a line of people waiting around for their orders, so I anticipated a long wait, but it was super fast. I got the Black Seed BLT on an everything bagel and the Classic 2.0 on an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese. I wish they had put more cream cheese on, but besides that I enjoyed both. I came to pick up a bagel on a Sunday morning and I'm glad I ordered ahead online - there was a huge line. The bagels here were disappointing if you want a NY bagel. I ordered a pumpernickel everything with lox dill cream cheese and the bagel was small and dense, not fluffy at all. The cream cheese was honestly even more disappointing - super runny and not creamy at all. By the time I finished my bagel there was more cream cheese on the wax paper than there was left in my bagel. I ordered, paid and tipped. My experience... asked for coffee with a dash of milk. she made me a latte (with foam). I said I think I've got a latte here. She said no, that's a coffee with milk. (It's not). I politely asked if she would remake it, specifying I'd just a like a hot black coffee with a dash of cold milk... she makes a big deal of it "THATS what you want?" As she makes it- as though it's something they don't normally do. Maybe she made a mistake and doesn't want to just say oh whoops? But then I see the issue- when I get the cup- the coffee is cold -they didn't want to make a new pot (end of day). I decide it's just not going to work out bc i am not going to make a second request. I go to register and say hey, can I just get a refund, the coffee is cold. The girl at the register rolls her eyes and opens her mouth like "ooookaaaaaay" as though I'm being difficult and out of line. (I've worked in customer service my entire life. I'm polite and calm. I also understand they want to get out of there and don't want to brew a new pot which is why we have this problem ). The latte gaslighter (older woman) refunds me. On our third day in New York we stopped off at Black Seed Bagels for breakfast. The previous morning we had gotten bagels from Bagelsmith which were very tasty and filling, thick with cream cheese. But the bagels from Black Seed Bagels were terrible -- the bagels were barely toasted, and the cream cheese was thin and runny. Basically, it was two slices of dough with liquid cream cheese leaking everywhere. I had a few bites, licked up the runny cream cheese, and tossed the raw bread. I was unsatisfied and hungry, and at $21.54 for two bagels (including tax and tip), pretty annoyed. I will be sure to skip Black Seed Bagels next time I am in New York and go elsewhere. I had never tried building my own bagel from BSB before and was excited for this order. When my order arrived, it was someone else's order. As I used Postmates, I was only given the option of a refund, but wondered if perhaps my order was never picked up and still at Black Seed. I called and they confirmed my order was in the store. I picked up my order and when I finally had my bagel, I was deeply disappointed at the final result of my bagel sandwich. The pumpernickel everything bagel was not toasted, missing the salmon and cream cheese, but had all the other toppings. Unfortunately, this was not the sandwich I was craving. As noted in my photo, the complete order did go through, so I am at a loss as to how the final product was missing those ingredients and the toasting. I am disappointed with this experience and will be taking my patronage elsewhere. I would suggest to others to not order delivery and closely review your sandwich. I have a thing for bagels, and New York's bagels are truly next level. I've heard that Black Seed delivers, and boy did it. My friend and I ordered it for brunch, and it really did hit the spot. I had no idea that the water is what makes NY bagels hit different! Black Seeds has such an optimal balance of chew vs. toastiness. I got the BOCA with eggs, avocado and tomato. It really hit the spot. Though they bagels here are undoubtedly on the pricier side, you can almost taste the quality and freshness of the bagel. However, bagels are pretty normal sized, compared to other gigantic ones I've seen. Given this though, the ratio of bagel vs. sandwich additions was great and the other items did get to shine.
