Basically, this place is a dump. It used to be fairly good....or maybe our expectations have raised! We refer to this place as "Crapps". The waitresses seem to be bothered by you being there. I do believe some of them worked here upon the joint opening....if that tells you anything! Save your money and go elsewhere. Although, if you are wanting a good STIFF drink, just hang in the bar. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Lynn is a incompetent manager! Bought a gift card for couple as present. When they tried to use it, the gift card would not go thru and waitress told couple this happens sometimes and a manager knows how to fix computer to accept it. No manager was present. The couple had to pay for own meal. I called and spoke with Lynn who only could keep on saying she was not there so she can't be responsible. If this had been a problem in past it should have been fixed. The reason gift card was not accepted despite computer glitch per Lynn was that the server would be out the 50 dollars. What about me and the couple being out 50 dollars?! Next time I buy a gift card in the North End, it will be at the new Waffle house opening up down the street! read more

Not my best experience with a restaurant, waited almost an hour for our food. When we finally received our meal, the gravy and eggs were cold. Although it took almost an hour to get our food the server did check on us regularly. read more

First off I come here often. The food is always good, the monster omlet or sausage bennies is my favs but today my service was not only slow but my server stephanie didnt seem to know what serving is. It was almost ten minutes to be greeted when she did she seemed confused. When checking on us she was not even paying attention but looking up at the ceiling. Walked in at 8am on a Saturday for breakfast. Sign on wall said seat your self, sat down and waited. 20 mins later having not even seen an employee, I started to look around. Then a couple to my left got frustrated, having been waiting longer then me, they got up and walked out. I waited 10 more mins before crossing the street and getting a doughnut at Top Pot. I could not tell you about the food, nobody bothered to show up and greet me, I could not tell you about the service, there was none. I can tell you the atmosphere was frustrated and annoyed, several people waiting. Found it pathetic and will not return. Will also go out of my way to let friends and family know. read more

Love their chicken Cordon Bleu. It is amazing. Probably the best I have ever had. Went for breakfast but was to impressed however I am not a breakfast person. Waitress was nice and my Fiancé loved his eggs benni. Was clean needs a little tlc ie new chairs and maybe pain. Other then that pretty Kool place. read more

Not to fancy, has a very homey feeling to it. Customer service was awesome i had the fireside omelet, with hash browns and wheat toast. My omelet was great and my hash browns was ok they were pretty greasy and my toast was slightly burnt. read more

This is our default neighborhood restaurant. We have patronized them for years. Good American home cooking is their specialty and I think we've enjoyed most of their menu. Great for breakfast and they really pay attention to how you like your food cooked. The portions are VERY generous! I always choose the half size on the salads and still may not be able to finish it. Friendly staff knows the regulars and welcomes the newcomers. A comfortable place. Hemingway might even have called it a 'clean, well-lighted place.' Sit by the windows and watch the Proctor neighborhood go by! Just a great neighborhood restaurant. read more

I don't write a whole lot of reviews but this one deserves my thoughts, which aren't postive. My wife and I decided to some small business shopping in the Proctor district and were hungry so we thought we would stop at Knapp's. I've eaten there about a dozen times in the past 5 years or so and have only had 1 or 2 good experiences. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because the food is pretty good. Nothing that makes it stand out from any other diner but it's tasty. My problem is with the wait staff. My experience happened as soon as we entered. The person greeting us seemed annoyed she had to seat us. I experienced her laughing and being friendly to others but for some reason we were just two bodies in a booth. After about 10 minutes we got our order taken with no exuberance what so ever. Our food came and after we were about 3/4 done we were asked if we needed anything else. Not needing anything she brought the check without even a thank you. Second complaint is the prices. Yeah I know the prices are on the menu but when you order a hot chocolate you kinda have a price range already in mind, and when you see hot chocolate that comes from a machine and were charged $3.69 you get pissed off a little. We left not leaving a tip and vowing to never spend another dime in that restaurant. Before you get all over my case about tipping mind you my wife and I are very generous tippers if the service warrants it. We never leave less than $5 if the service is good. I know Knapp's is a well known establishment but they will never see another penny form us. read more

Knapp's Lounge 5 Stars! The pour is great and after 2 trips there the bartender knew my name. I'm surprised the UPS crowd hasn't discovered this little gem. The food is reminiscent of Denny's only more home style. Meatloaf, chicken fried steak, halibut and chips. Good stuff but not outstanding. Big portions. read more

My family has been eating here for decades so when I fly into town I join them, and I always found the staff very nice and accommodating BUT the food is just okay! On my most recent visit, I noticed that the food prices had gone up, but the quality was the same and as I sat trying to decide what to order I almost wished that I had gone somewhere else because my silverware and the table did not look clean BUT here is what really got me. My sister ordered her breakfast with eggs fried . . . I ordered the same breakfast meal but asked for my eggs to be scrambled. I also asked if they used fresh eggs as opposed to liquid eggs and she said yes. When the bill arrived, I noticed that they added a $1. charge to "crack an egg" which was clearly printed on the bill. I have two questions: 1. Why am I charged to "crack an egg" for scrambled and my sister who ordered her eggs fried was not 2. If they are charging an additional $1. Surcharge to use real eggs (especially since their prices already went up) why did the waitress not mention it when I ordered. I have waited a while to process this before putting it on yelp but every time I mention it to anyone their response is always WHAT??? They are Nickel and dime~ing the customer and it just doesn't make sense. With all the new buildings that are going up around them they probably don't care what we think but they really should. At last make sure the silverware and tables are clean before seating the next customer. read more

Found this place (4-3-2011) while searching the area for a decent place to sit & eat. Well pretty much drove around for 30-60 mins, stopping in a few places and leaving. Really a place that only sells bagel sandwiches? agh. So we happen apon Knapps. Wasent sure what to expect, but as other reviewers have stated. Its a homestyle place w/Bar. We travel to the Met for shopping at least 1 time per month so it will be a place we visit at least 1 time per mo. The service was good, the food acceptable and well priced. The waitress was informative on the food/cooks whats good and when. I had a Turkey sandwich w/ navy bean soup (very very good soup) a bit dry on the sandwich, but no mayo so thats healther anyway. The shrimp salad looked great and was huge. The fish n chips did not look great, but was told it was good. Little $ folks, lunch/dinner was very well priced. I say... for the proctor district its good place for this type of food. Its also associated with other resturants.. like the Harvester..The poodle Dog etc. Its now owned by same company. read more

Typical cafe with breakfast, burgers, and sandwhichs. Everything tasted great and the service was perfect.

I live here in Tacoma and have eaten here before.Sorry to say,never again. The sign said upon entering to wait to be seated.. We did, over 5 min. and then the hostess said just sit wherever. The waitress wasn't the friendliest--of course if they hired more, maybe they wouldn't be so hurried. My 1 friend and I ordered ranch on the side for our fries, When the food came, of course, no ranch. I ask for mine and she brought it , still without my friend's. She then ask again for her's. The waitress's eyes got big and she said sarcasticlly "I suppose you want some too", to our other friend. I had the roast beef au jus. It had no flavor and the fries were frozen steak fries. Before the fries were always the fresh cut and so good. All in all it was not a nice experience and seriously doubt I'll return. read more

Not very friendly, food looked awesome. The food tasted sub par, the hashbrowns were fried in some kind of oil...tasted like grease. The scrambled meat lovers had a lot of sausage and ham, but the eggs tasted old and gritty...and chalky. Toast was burnt to near charcoal, pancakes tasted like the pre-made sisco type. Strange restaurant where the wait staff has no clue what to recommend, the prices were high for such poor quality food. 10 oz Apple juice for a child costs $3.50 and a tiny sisco hot choclate is $3.50 too...sad and gross. Save your money and go to Ihop for bad food. read more

Went here for breakfast with a friend. The eggs benedict was undercooked (runny whites) the hollandaise sauce was waaay oversalted, and the hashed browns were a greasy mix of undercooked and burned. My friend's mocha was too sweet and tasted like it'd been flavored with stale choco milk mix powder. All in all, slightly worse than Denny's. The plain coffee was good. read more

I had breakfast here and it was pretty disappointing. The Prime Rib Gravy over Biscuits special sounded delicious, but in reality tasted like flour with a few chunks of meat thrown in. The coffee was just plain terrible. How do restaurants get away with bad coffee anymore? The service was friendly, but inattentive. I asked for a glass of water twice and never got it. For a grand total of $17.50, I could have done a lot better at one of the many other great breakfast places in the area. Don't waste your money here. read more

Horrible service. As we walk in it reeked of something that burned for hours. The stench would not go away the entire time we were there. So much was wrong including the food not cooked to order. The Waitress Sandy was so rude and offensive. She poured the syrup all over the eggs and did not apologize. She interrupted our conversations for her own convenience and without good reason. Not everyone ordered food because they ate already so she snatched away the menus and silverware. She told us that we had to leave because it was an inconvenience for another party. As we left she was taking an order from a party of four and commented "enjoy the rest of your day. Don't be stupid!" And laughed with the customers. Very bad service. Do not recommend! read more

nasty..nasty food nasty service nasty restroom...the food is about on par with a poorly ran sharis or dennys franchise..service was ok up until the two people with me reached there coffee refill limit as they purchased no food, no problem but when i too was cut off from refills even though i bought a meal i questioned why and waitress response was to roll her eyes and walk away without saying a word we paid our tab and left. i will never return. if service had been perfect i wouldnt have returned food was gross and entire place didnt look very clean. read more
