Very refreshing straight up ginger beer!
    Alden C.

Side Pony Lounge is a cocktail bar that I have been wanting to go to for a while and was in fact in my old neighborhood where I lived in for a while so it was nice to come back. I remember when I did live around here this very spot was an ice cream shop and later a Kombucha brewery. I am glad that the space is getting reused. When we sat down we were told by the waitress that they had their own house made ginger beer which really caught my attention. I do like ginger! I saw that they had the ginger beer in their Moscow Mule and so I ordered one of those. I liked it very much and even ordered a straight up ginger beer afterwards. If you enjoy ginger, specifically ginger beer then Side Pony has a really good one! In addition to that Steve and I ordered some nachos. This was kind of a spin on nachos you might get at a convenience store but Side Pony's version was way better than what it's inspired from. The nacho experience took me back to my youth in the 80's whenI first noticed these nachos which is very fitting as the atmosphere of the lounge definitely and delightfully 80's inspired. Definitely looking forward to a return trip and even if it's just for the ginger beer!

One of my best friends and I try and make it out once a month for "mom's night out" and this last time we went to Side Pony per my boyfriend's recommendation. He's a fan of their sister bar, The Mule Tavern, so I thought we'd give it a try! Bottom line is that it's a SUPER cool dive bar with the best vibe and the coolest owner. We intended on only being out for a couple hours and we were here for five... LOL whoops! Bonus points for having a TouchTunes jukebox and also pickle juice for pickle backs. More bonus points for the owner who takes your name instead of your card to keep your tab running. He's a cool guy. I'll definitely be coming back here. A welcomed addition to the Sixth Ave bar scene!

Stopped in for a quick drink and had the Pim's Cup which was incredible - strong cucumber notes and incredibly refreshing. The ambiance was also sunning - something out of the 80's. Service was quick and accommodating. Highly recommended!

Always a good vibe here. Small, cozy, with a good bourbon selection. Best part? they keep it simple and execute it well.

I'm 99% sure it didn't have croutons buried in the middle, but she freaked out that her fork hit something crunchy and hard. Was most likely bacon but whatever. (The bacon was cooked too crispy perfection visually). She lost it. He didn't argue and had her another one made with the bacon on the side. Kuddos to him. While I fully sympathize with her concerns with gluten, she didn't fish out an actual crouton to show. The 3 cheese burger is absolutely a must! Personally I recommend salt and vinegar chips with it... Great mocktail options and they were happy to make anything off menu for me! Parking is tough but 100000% recommend checking this place out.

I met Jessie and Camille amongst sweet people. So very friendly. Their food options were special. I loved their simple hamburger and adored the dill pickle dip, I went home that night and found a similar recipe and made it for a party at my niece's. If you ever get up there, please find the time to stop by. I swear you won't regret it. This bar was established in 1935!!

In our defense it seemed like every time we drove by it it looked like they weren't open and the other half of the time they were open but we had to be somewhere else and couldn't commit to a stop. Well it finally happened and we are so glad it did. We made it into the iconic giant coffee pot building and had a blast enjoying it's quirky atmosphere and dive bar vibe. There once used to be monkeys behind glass way back when. We saw where they were once located in the back which adds to the history of the place. Some people may not know that since it isn't attention grabbing at this point and the monkeys are long gone but it definitely adds to the oddity of it. The Java Jive serves food which is a nice perk. I had a pretty decent B.L.T. sandwich and they have an exclusive beer dedicated just to the Java Jive by Sig Brewing named Bob's Light Lager. It's a tasty one too and kind of indicates the long history the Java Jive has for the area. We took all kinds of pictures of the unusual atmosphere and had a blast doing it. For film buffs the Java Jive appeared in several films, Say Anything (1989), I love You To Death (1990), Three Fugitives (1989) and 10 Things I Hate About You (1999). The Java Jive is also on the Tacoma Historic Register and the National Register of Historic Places. We are going a return visit there tonight (12/05/25) for a friend's book release party. So super stoked for a fun return to the Java Jive !

The food is my favorite part. I can have a beer anywhere, but the food is actually pretty on point minus the nachos, sad to say. The sandwiches are amazing, the quesadillas are amazing, have yet to make it there before breakfast ends but I'm betting it's probably pretty good. Staff are friendly, efficient, and do well on checking to make sure you're not waiting too long for service without being too bothersome. It gets a little loud, busy and crowded on nights especially on the weekends, but that's typical bar atmosphere. The back patio space is also really cool - it's also dark as it's covered, so I imagine it gets pretty warm back there in the hotter summer days. They don't have a giant food menu but they have a few sandwiches to choose from. We both got their grilled cheese which you can never go wrong with. Another notable part of our visit was the bartender - he was so nice! Extremely personable and handled holding down the entire bar by himself, including the cooking. Parking lot is super small, but they do have ample street parking right out front and we found a spot no problem. This bar is definitely on the cozier side, with maybe a total of 30 seats if I had to guess. There's about 10-12 seats at the bar and then the rest is booth seating on the opposite wall. The selection was rather decent for drinks, with them surprising us with not one, not two, but FOUR hard cider choices for my husband. Most places only have 1-2, and they usually are ones he doesn't like, but he got lucky here. Another bonus: strong pours. :) I saw a menu for food, but it was only a few choices - I forget what they all were, but I know one was a cheeseburger. So, probably don't plan to come here stuffed, but they do have snacks should you need it. This spot is definitely on the lowkey side but it was a comfortable stop. When we ordered drinks at the bar we had mentioned we might take off and the bartender saw a table become vacant and quickly rushed over and held and cleaned it for us. She was so awesome - come to find out she was one of the owners! While it was busy, orders came out quickly. Any time we asked for a drink it was there just a couple of minutes later and our food came out in about 10 minutes which isn't bad. We got the Esquites and the Barbacoa Nachos to split and we loved both. Both were packed full of flavor and the barbacoa is so tender! And they don't skimp on the toppings, either. The vibe itself is super fun with mirrors, sparkly walls, and an overall comfortable dive aesthetic. And the cherry on top is that this place is crazy affordable on prices. For our two food items, and 3 beers and a shot each, we only racked up a $65 after tip. My husband had to triple check that they didn't miss anything! So glad we finally got to come here and we'll definitely be back.
