As typical, quite a lot of items were forgotten (meaning never delivered to our table) so we re-ordered those. Some items showed up much later... Salmon and tuna nigiri were plain this time... We've learned our lesson - don't visit Kahori with a large group. Too many items end up missing in action, everything's placed on the same plates for sharing, and sometimes the waiting after ordering is quite long. On the plus side, the unagi was wonderful as usual. I'm happy to say I knocked down 17 pieces of unagi nigiri.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU GO!…read more Beware. Eat at your own risk, but I would recommend going somewhere (anywhere) else. When you walk in, the room is clean and looks nicely decorated. The hostess brings an iPad over and explains how to order. 'Order as much as you want, but no leftovers.' Ok. So I can't take any food home, right? Wrong. They will charge you for any food you do not eat! On top of what they charge you for the food in the first place! I'm all for not wasting food, but this feels like a scam for several reasons. Reasons this feels like a scam: 1. The sushi is 90% rice. Nigiri, huge rice ball topped with mushy fish. Rolls, way too much rice wrapped around mushy fish with brown avocado, mayonnaise and dried out out imitation crab meat. Topped with discolored tuna. Tasted as bad as it looked. 2. Gyoza. This was a fundamental nightmare. Undercooked, swimming in oil, falling apart and completely lacking in texture. 3. Tempura. Neither the shrimp nor the vegetables were coated in an actual tempura batter. The shrimp were coated in panko breadcrumbs and the veggies were battered in something thick and heavy. Tempura should be light & crispy. Not swimming in oil, heavy and dark dark brown. ~Remember....no leftovers!~ 4. Shrimp. Poopy poopy shrimp. See my picture for proof. And mushy. No texture whatsoever. Disgusting. 5. Egg rolls and spring rolls. Burnt on the outside, more weird tasting filling and undercooked dough on the inside. 6. Beef noodle soup. Ramen noodles like from the package overcooked to the point of disintegration, making the broth cloudy and starchy. I couldn't pick the noodles up with chopsticks because they kept getting smushed. Beef was chewy and slimy. Another nightmare of cooking techniques. Whoever runs the kitchen is doing not just a bad job, but the worst job. There were so many fundamental screw ups with this meal that I'm shocked this place is still open. When we decided to pay, the hostess came back, looked at the table and said 'oh, we charge for the leftovers.' What?!? No. I told her why we didn't eat the nasty food and she told us we should have told them before we got ready to pay. She said: 'I TOLD you no leftovers!' I told her it was clearly not our fault the food was bad and we COULDN'T eat it. Pointed out all the problems and she told us to just go, it was okay. 'But next time, tell us sooner.' Lady, there will certainly NOT be a next time. I'm sorry there was a first time. Stay away! Your wallet and stomach will thank you.

So we need to wait even more. The seat and temperature: seat has no back and hard plus super hot inside during this energy crisis. Outside is 34F but indoors is 83F! Food: noodles are a big lump. Well the inside was quite busy, but I found a seat in the middle of what I would call a communal table, which was fine by me. I was immediately handed a German menu, which is fine as I can somewhat make out the ramen choices. The problem came when the waitress arrived and began to speak German, which I am nowhere fluent in. I tried to explain that I do not speak German, but she became upset and ultimately walked away. I found out later buried in the middle of the table were English menus, oh well! Kind of odd as I was doing my best to point to what I wanted to order. I flagged another staff member down who informed me that my order had been placed. To my surprise the right items magically appeared after 15 minutes, so that was a sigh of relief. It looked good and smelled good, which was a positive start, but sadly the pork belly ramen and veggies was just not on point. The broth was a little underwhelming and pork belly was not too tasty. Do not get me wrong, it was decent, but not what I am used too. I will say the meal portions were quite large and the overall menu pricing was fair considering it is located in a touristy part of town. Sadly, later I found out our waitress who really could care less about assisting us spoke fluent English, go figure. Not really pegging a star for it, but you are in a business that should strive for customer satisfaction, oh well.

Mmmmm..... So basically if there is one country that I'm completely enamored by the food but don't know a whole lot about it, it is Japan. Sure, we have all had sushi and ramen, but I have never really had too much else aside from hibachi style whatnots. I find sushi in Frankfurt not too great, but I have found some decent ramen here. I just never really thought much else about Japanese food here until I went to Konamon. You won't find ramen or sushi on the menu at Konamon. They specialize in okonomiyaki and takoyaki. They also offer some small dishes for appetizers. All is reasonably priced. They also have Kirin on tap. I ordered the pork okonomiyaki which was more or less a bacon like product as well as one order of octopus takoyaki. Both were stellar. I had the spicy miso with the okonomiyaki and their special house sauce with the takoyaki. Another great thing about this place is that I can walk there within 15 minutes and I have a bad feeling this could be dangerous for me in the future. Discovering this gem may be one of my summer highlights. The customer service is fantastic here and prompt. The takoyaki does take about thirty minutes to cook, on the other hand, so be prepared to wait a bit and enjoy a Kirin in the process. I don't have anything to compare this place to as I have never had Japanese food in Japan or even just Japanese food like this. But I left satisfied and feeling like I discovered a place I will go back to quite often, so I am extremely happy.

I would guess the baby is about a year old, and they had to stand in the cold to wait for the table. In the meantime, there were seats & tables available inside, and even there is space available for everyone to wait inside. After waiting for 20 minutes, I waited another 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging there is a customer waiting for a many. I had to request the waitress to rush my order (I was ready to leave). The noodle was served quickly, this is the only thing that made me happy. When I picked up the noodles with the chopsticks, I noticed there was a good-sized noodle lump sitting in the soup. I had to constantly push the lump to the side of the bowl. The soup base was so thick and sticky. This would normally happen when the noodle is cooked in the soup base and the starch makes the soup sticky. However, I believe the ramen should be cooked in hot water separately before the noodles are added to the soup base. I ordered the Cha Shu Ramen, and the two thin slices of Cha Shu were so sad....my noodles shouldn't have cost me 26 Euro. I want to say it is overcharged. I am ok to pay 26 Euro, but you need to give me the 26 Euro worth of food and service. I am surprised to see such a high rating for this restaurant.
