Miso Ramen
Kenji O.

It's been a minute since I've traveled internationally for business. In my usual tradition I hit up the local ramen joint, this time Ramen Jun in Frankfurt. Flavoring was robust, strong miso flavoring of the broth and also heavier on the sesame oil in the gyoza. Not a bad spot though. Noodles were thicker, like chow mein noodles and very slick, like they oiled them. Would say that the ramen proportion to broth was a bit light on the ramen. Prefer a U.S. Coke over a Fritz Cola. Overall, would give a 3.5 stars if I could but round up to 4 stars for a ramen outside of Japan (and the US).

100% as tasty and 3 times as big as the mothership in the Westend. I came here for lunch today and enjoyed a yummy bowl of miso ramen with an added egg and some extra spice. The broth was really good, the noodles well prepared, the spice ball gave it an extra kick I loved. The service was friendly and brought out the food pretty quickly. Their menu is a bit different (and more expensive) than the one at the Westend location. For example, I didn't see any Tonkotsu ramen, I had to order the soft-boiled egg as an add-on, etc, so I can only award 4 stars for now, but I'll be happy to come back and try out more.

If you're familiar with the Ramen Jun on Wilhelm-Hauff-Straße then you'll be happy to know that they have opened a new and bigger branch on Fahrgasse! From what I gather, it's the same deal - one of the few places in Germany where you'll get ramen close to the Ramen you had in Japan! However - keep in mind that their noodles here are a bit thicker, much different to the ones on offer at the original restaurant. I had the miso ramen with the extra meat. Excellent flavour, however the egg, in my opinion should've been gooey and the meat is not melt-in-your-mouth. Also, you have to add the egg as an extra, it's not included. Had a half serve of the karaage which was delicious, however had to ask for mayonnaise (it is a must!). Overall, quite pleasing and comforting to know there will be a ramen joint conveniently located for the colder months!

Tonkotsu ramen with pork chashu & ajitama

Ramen Jun Red is some of the best ramen I have eaten in Germany! For ramen lovers definitely check out Dusseldorf sometime. Anyway, back to Ramen Jun. There are two locations in Frankfurt and we opted for Red because it was closer to where we were staying. My friend and I each ordered the tonkotsu ramen with ajitama added. The broth was awesome! We also ordered some chicken karaage to start with & the chicken was crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside. Beers were reasonably priced for Frankfurt and the service was outside. Will definitely check out the original restaurant in the future. If you've never had real Japanese ramen before, this is a great place to start before you make the pilgrimage to Dusseldorf where Japanese food is abundant.

Spicy Miso Ramen

So lecker! Was passing by Frankfurt and decided to try Ramen Jun...The place was almost full, with a lot of reserved tables and it smelled amazing when I walked in! Sure shot, the food was great! I had the Spicy Ramen and it was the right amount of spiciness to enjoy the whole bowl. The broth was just flawless, the staff was helpful even with the house super packed...I could get going but I hope you're already convinced :)

We had the starter of the Kaarage, Iv never in my life had juicer fried chicken than that. It was amazing and extremely filling. For a main I had Miso Dx, the ingredients were fresh and tasty and everything tasted great. It was a little bit too much and since I had the starter my tummy couldn't fit it all. So keep that in mind when dining here. The portions are massive. The restaurant was air conditioned so that helped since it was hot as hell. My only complain is that they took more than 30 mins to clean up our table and give us our bill.

Having had ramen from Takumi and loved it, and being told Ramen Jun wasn't so good, I decided to give it a try. Surprisingly, it's quite ok. Had spicy Negi chashu , soup is thicker but not too thick. Noodles are good. Price is a bit over the value. No special lunch deal.

So basically if there is one country that I'm completely enamored by the food but don't know a whole lot about it, it is Japan. Sure, we have all had sushi and ramen, but I have never really had too much else aside from hibachi style whatnots. I find sushi in Frankfurt not too great, but I have found some decent ramen here. I just never really thought much else about Japanese food here until I went to Konamon. You won't find ramen or sushi on the menu at Konamon. They specialize in okonomiyaki and takoyaki. They also offer some small dishes for appetizers. All is reasonably priced. They also have Kirin on tap. I ordered the pork okonomiyaki which was more or less a bacon like product as well as one order of octopus takoyaki. Both were stellar. I had the spicy miso with the okonomiyaki and their special house sauce with the takoyaki. Another great thing about this place is that I can walk there within 15 minutes and I have a bad feeling this could be dangerous for me in the future. Discovering this gem may be one of my summer highlights. The customer service is fantastic here and prompt. The takoyaki does take about thirty minutes to cook, on the other hand, so be prepared to wait a bit and enjoy a Kirin in the process. I don't have anything to compare this place to as I have never had Japanese food in Japan or even just Japanese food like this. But I left satisfied and feeling like I discovered a place I will go back to quite often, so I am extremely happy.
