So basically if there is one country that I'm completely enamored by the food but don't know a whole lot about it, it is Japan. Sure, we have all had sushi and ramen, but I have never really had too much else aside from hibachi style whatnots. I find sushi in Frankfurt not too great, but I have found some decent ramen here. I just never really thought much else about Japanese food here until I went to Konamon. You won't find ramen or sushi on the menu at Konamon. They specialize in okonomiyaki and takoyaki. They also offer some small dishes for appetizers. All is reasonably priced. They also have Kirin on tap. I ordered the pork okonomiyaki which was more or less a bacon like product as well as one order of octopus takoyaki. Both were stellar. I had the spicy miso with the okonomiyaki and their special house sauce with the takoyaki. Another great thing about this place is that I can walk there within 15 minutes and I have a bad feeling this could be dangerous for me in the future. Discovering this gem may be one of my summer highlights. The customer service is fantastic here and prompt. The takoyaki does take about thirty minutes to cook, on the other hand, so be prepared to wait a bit and enjoy a Kirin in the process. I don't have anything to compare this place to as I have never had Japanese food in Japan or even just Japanese food like this. But I left satisfied and feeling like I discovered a place I will go back to quite often, so I am extremely happy.

It was great wasabi, don't get me wrong, but they didn't advertise it being included in each and every bite/roll, didn't ask us whether or not we would like to include or exclude the wasabi, etc. We had delightful cuts of the best fish, but the wasabi really took away from it. It was more like wasabi rolls, not sushi rolls. Service was quite fast, and they greet you with a hot cup of green tea! The interior was packed at lunch time, and the small space was just like a sushi spot in the heart of Tokyo.

I parked at the kurhaus and walked in MoschMosch instead of Vapianos. I was welcomed immediately and they comfortably spoke English. They were kind enough to give me an English menu too. I ordered green tea, harumaki- spring roll, and seelenruhe- beef ramen. The harumaki tasted like a Vietnamese spring roll, which wasn't too bad. The seelenruhe was disappointing. The broth was flat and tasted like regular beef stock. There was no depth in flavor and it was slightly too watery. Ramen broth should be an experience in itself and I was disappointed that they called it ramen. I would respect the restaurant more if they called it beef noodle soup because it was certainly not ramen. The thing that pushed me over was the fact that they put carrots in my "ramen." That is simply not ok. I was fine with the beef being slightly undercooked, but I know some people might not enjoy that. I gave this place 3 stars because the customer service was nice, but I was not super impressed by the "ramen." I might go back and try the yakiudon dish though.

May I please speak to a Korean? No. I'm hanging up now. This interaction reminds me of one many years ago in the Quartier Latin. A friend and I went to a "Mexican" restaurant. Once we got our food, I realized that it was not authentic. I asked if the chef was from Mexico. Yes! Oh, from what state? They were caught and we were presented with the bill and asked to leave. So not Korean. Or just an untrained non-Asian employee.

Sushiko is a nice little conveyor-belt sushi place in the heart of Sachsenhausen on Schweizer…read moreStrasse. Their sushi comes in 8 price-tiers, colour-coded to the plates they circulate on. For my money, Sushiko is better than their competitors on this level in Frankfurt like Sushi Circle, Sushi Live, etc. You can either pick-up from the conveyor belt or order fresh bento boxes, sushi rolls or tempura selections. Anything that you pick up that is intended to be eaten hot, a waiter will quickly spot you and warm the dish for you on the spot. The staff are very friendly and attentive and quick to help you out, which I really like. You can either sit counter-style, facing the belt or at some of their 4-person tables, all on high stools. They have good green tea and some nice, dry Japanese beers as well. Like any conveyor belt sushi joint, they throw some rather random curve balls into circulation like chocolate truffles, puddings and random western things that don't really belong. However, the selection of sushi and tempura is good and if you don't see what you want, just flag a waiter and it's made to order very quickly. The fish and overall quality is good for this type of restaurant - of course they don't try to compete with the higher end, more traditional places like Fujiwara. But for their niche, Sushi outshines others on the same playing field.
