You may find it surprising that Kirby Park's Yelp listing has sat dormant - even with the incorrect address - on this site for so long, but really it makes perfect sense. Kirby Park is one of the few places in Wilkes-Barre worth cherishing, yet it is quickly overlooked and even taken for granted by locals. Even though Kirby Park (given to Wilkes-Barre by the Kirby family) is part of Wilkes-Barre, it sits over the bridge in Kingston. It's as if the park stiff-armed the city a la Heisman and said, "not so fast ... you can own us but we are too nice to actually be IN your city." When you think about it, the list of nice or very nice properties in Wilkes-Barre is a short one indeed, and don't confuse the city with the Township, which is a whole other story entirely. Back to the park: it's basic. One little pond that is allergic to geese, a strange running/walking trail that snakes along the (not so scenic) river, and a decent helping of tennis courts, playgrounds, softball fields, track, and a pavilion. This is where Kirby Park needs some love. That little Martz Pavilion plays host to some key annual festivals including the annual 4th of July celebration. So no, Kirby Park is not among the top parks in the state, but those few times a year the locals gather as a community generally happen right here. And there's value to that.

Kaitlin and I frequent Kirby Park for relaxation and brainstorming. Depending on what time of day we visit we are granted a different experience from the same loop. Always grateful. Finding a solution for the homeless in the woods and greater maintenance of the wooded path would increase our rating.

I discovered this park at random while wondering around Wilkes-Barre and crossing the bridge. Boy am I glad I did. It's a wonderful place to walk with a nice pond, a hill and a playground, a tennis court, and a softball and football field. You get great views of the mountains in the distance, always a good thing for a tourist. It was a very lively place and for a good reason.

We ended up walking our dog over to the tree house overlook and the views of the gorge and the water below were genuinely breathtaking. Along the way, we made time to check out Brooks Coal Mine which is an interesting piece of history. It's a small, shallow mind that was built more than 100 years ago and I love that there is a memorial there to all the coal miners who have lost their lives working in the mine. We walked through shaded paths and green spaces taking in the scenery and just really enjoying the vibes here. There were lots of trees and greenspace with quiet benches and so many things to look at. We actually got really excited when we spotted a bug that we had never seen before. I added a photo below and maybe I sound like a crazy person but I'm not from this area. I learned afterwards that it was a spotted lantern fly. Apparently that's not a great thing for the ecosystem and they're kind of a n invasive pest, but you learn something new everyday right? I honestly wish we had planned for more time at the park itself, but we did stay for about an hour and really enjoyed our walk and the fact that our dog was having such a lovely time here. I still feel like there was more for us to see. Parking was easy and entry was free. If you are in the area and just want to stretch your legs or take in the beautiful nature, this is definitely a place to check out.

The trails are quite nice and it's always nice to walk to some waterfalls, particularly when it's hot out. There's a good amount of trails and there's plenty of parking all around the park. It's definitely one of the nicest things to do in Scranton and I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area!

What a beautiful location, Blanche D Price, Memorial Park located in Pocono Pines Pennsylvania…read more My daughter booked and rented the Main Lodge in the park so she could have an indoor & outdoor setting, for a Wedding Reception. We were allowed to decorate, both indoors & outdoors, the tables & chairs were provided by the facility so you can set them up accordingly to how many guest and the type of celebration. We had approximately 200 guest, our celebration was for a BBQ wedding reception. Many of the guest complimented how spacious and roomy the venue they chose, they were delighted to see there was a playground just a few yards for the children to play and within eye's view from the main lodge. There is a small outdoor stage for entertainment but there is no shade or covering for the entertainers/musicians, granted you can provide a pop up tent if necessary. Inside the Lodge there is a small stage loft with lots of room for tables chairs and dancing.. The outside of the main lodge, is a wrap around deck for plenty of room to sets extra tables and chairs or hang out at the banister and listen to the music. Plenty of room to mingle with friends and meet the new family. The main lodge has its own male/female bathrooms,a kitchen, fridge, stove, oven there is a center island table for cutting or prepping, there is hot & cold water but no dishwasher so you will need to bring your kitchen amenities such as dish soap, trash bags etc. The location is well kept and clean as well as the playground equipment. was very happy & delighted to have such a wonderful venue to share with my family, my new family and friends for this memorable event.

Unfortunately, the weather interfered with our ability to see as much as we had hoped, but we still had a great time! There is a nice visitor center with a variety of historic and nature info available, including some great info on the CCC work that took place in the park (there's a really nice interactive model of a CCC camp too) and how and where the park name is suspected to have been derived from. There is a real snake to look at, as well. A very nice playground is located nearby, and this section of the park also offers easy access to the Loysalsock Creek and the beach with a snack bar, plus multiple picnic tables and shelterhouses. It's beautiful even just to look at the valley walls and the creek itself. There are several gorgeous vistas available, some by foot and some by foot or car. We especially liked the Loyalsock Canyon Vista, which can be reached on foot or by car. It is located next to the Rock Garden, which is a very neat grouping of giant rocks and boulders that is a lot of fun to check out. The park also offers camping and plenty of trails. Worlds End is located within the Loyalsock State Forest, so there is also a lot more that one could explore in the area.

Big ups to maintenance and the camp hosts. 4) The camp hosts and visitors center personnel are fantastically kind and helpful. They obviously love this park. 5) Fun stuff like the Forksville General Store, Snack stands, swimming hike, Haystacks, Rock Garden, and all kinds of other interesting places to explore! I've been here with friends, with my family, and by myself, and I've thoroughly enjoyed each trip, so I'll definitely be back for more!
