Named for the restored stone built powder magazine from 1818, this lovely oasis sits astride the Charles river and and is home to a couple rowing clubs. There is a fair amount of parking and the trees were magnificent. Saw many people out and about enjoying the scene but it wasn't crowded. Plenty of personal space to wander around without disturbing your neighbor. Definitely recommend..

On the negative side, they're now pretty strict about their no food/drink policy, parking sucks for non-cambridge residents, the bathroom cleanliness ranges from alright to scary (depends on how crowded it is, like all DCR facilities) and if someone throws up (or does something else) they shut it down for the rest of the day. Tips: 1. if you're coming on a summer weekend when the odds of a kid dirtying the pool up are pretty high go right when it opens 2. Bring a handled bag to carry your stuff so you can hang it on the bathroom/changing room door because you don't want to think about it even touching the floor 3. Bring only what you can eat outside or keep a cooler in your car for leftovers. 4. Parking can be tricky and the TJ's lot tows so if you're a Cambridge resident with a sticker park on Magazine St. If you're not, have someone drop you off/pick you up or park in/take T to Central Sq. and take an Uber X there (about $5 one way) 5. Bring a chair. Laying on a towel on the concrete isn't so comfy and people swarm the few benches they have.

I could have waited at my desk, or chatted with Joe from finance, but then, the rest of the day.... I'd feel hollow. I'd have a picture of a life with a small green slice missing. Your oversized chairs are stylish, yet comfortable. Like a well made peep-toe platform pump. The grass was always green, and lush, and inviting, and ... *sigh* I'm sorry I had to leave you, but I needed to move on in my career. I will always miss those perfect spring afternoons spent lounging in the sun, letting the UV rays bake my cares away. Listening to the frolicking children in your safe and enclosed playground chirp along with the birds was the perfect soundtrack to a lost hour. Be well my dear. Savin Hill Park is a nice little escape from the craziness that is Dorchester. A short walk from…read morethe Savin Hill stop on the redline, it's a nice little mini-hike with pretty views of Dorchester and the Quincy shore. It also boasts a basketball and tennis court. Make sure you wear sneakers if you're planning on doing the hike up the rocks, as there's a lot of glass and broken bottles littering the ground, probably left over from kids drinking late at night.

Found this & through it in the Bookmarks, was out yesterday & it was Hot so we decided to take a look... Pulled up right in front of the gate & parked which was great... Was instantly pleased just from looking from the street... Love that the whole park is gated and all the parents there used them every time they went in & out... (I have a 2 YO that loves to run away) There are TONS of tables (some in shade) there are 2 huge playhouse thingys, one is for smaller kids & my son LOVED IT. We walked over to try out the water sprinkler (which is hand activated) but he doesnt love water soo much... There is a cool see saw but he had no desire to try it out, so back to the slide we went... Hate that this park is soo out of the way from home, but if we are ever in the area guarantee we are stopping in.

How awesomely cool is this! I love this parkway greenway beltway thing that they have going on here with in parallel with the Orange Line. I don't remember any of this from the time I spent in Boston a number of years back. This is a very cool bikeway / walkway that extends quite a looooooong distance from downtown into the Jamaica Plain suburbs. If I lived here and had a bicycle, I'd be on this every day the weather was good. Super cool! Please note that there is a separate path for the bikes and the walkers, mkay?

The Southwest Corridor is my beloved pedestrian highway!…read more I LOVE it. But minus one star for occasional shady characters that make you want to avoid walking alone at night as well as the extremely high noise level, afforded by the passing Orange Line and Commuter Rail. Since I moved to JP last April, I discovered the amazing convenience of both the Orange Line and the SWC. They both give you a direct shot into the heart of Back Bay with little to no interference from vehicular traffic. The SWC is a chain of paths, parks and green space running from Forest Hills station to Back Bay Station, ending at Dartmouth Street. It's fun to appreciate that the park was actually built along the remnants of the old B&P Railroad line. A portion of the track space was salvaged for the existing O Line and Commuter Rail, but the rest was turned (thankfully) into a chain of bike and pedestrian paths, green space and recreational areas. Thank you Boston! If you ever take the time to walk, bike or run the entire span of the SWC (just under 5 miles) you will surely revel in the ample playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, wading pools, roller hockey rinks, garden spaces, open grass and park benches that you never knew existed. I can't express enough my love of this little gem in the city. I can easily skip a T ride and run home from work along the miles of paved pathway or I can leisurely walk my dogs through the grassy areas, allowing them to stop and play with the oodles of other pups in the 'hood. All I'm waiting for now is to get a bike, and then I won't need the T at all! And to only think...the Southwest Corridor space was actually slated in the 60's to become an 8-12 lane HIGHWAY connecting I-95 and Rte. 128. Could you imagine the obscenity?! Even if you've never used the Corridor, I hope you can at least now appreciate that it isn't a highway. Get out and explore and enjoy it, please!
