That's right, yelpers... parenthood and old age are staring you down. Cummings Park Playground is the favorite playground for my 1.25yr old. The climbing/play structures are built on large sand areas, so it's like a giant sandbox (with clean sand no less). There are quite a few donated toys lying around (many of which are trucks), so there's lots to play with. 3 toddler swings, 2 big kid swings. A small basketball court with one hoop. The whole park is nicely laid out. I feel perfectly comfortable just sitting back on one of the benches and letting him walk around and explore. The best part is that its primarily used by 1-4yr olds, and there is almost always some kids there to play with (especially in the mornings). It can get busy, but it never gets too busy/insane (like Alexander W. Kemp playground in Harvard Sq). Generally speaking, the big kids and teenagers keep away. The worst part is that it has very little shade. In fact, there is no shade on the climbing structures, so they can get hot in the middle of the day. There are a few trees, but they aren't positioned particularly well. All the exciting stuff that your kids will want to play with are in the sunny spots. So I would recommend it as a early/mid-morning playground.

The first thing that struck me about this park were the separate play areas for under 5 and over 5 kiddos. I tend to go to the park on Summer St but there is only one structure and when the bigger kids play Tag, I always worry about my daughter getting knocked over or off the structure. The under 5 structure has only one opening through which there is potential for a fall; otherwise, the panels are closed. The structure offers opportunity to develop the gross motor skills through climbing and crawling through tubes. I genuinely appreciate the three baby swings as well as the sand (vs wood chips). Another big bonus is that Whole Foods is just a short walk down the street. There is a small basketball court adjacent to the playground but doesn't seem to be frequently utilized. This definitely seems to be a more family friendly park!

Love the park (at least from the street) The Big one loved the maze climby things... However, there is no walkway to get from the big park to the little park in the back without having to walk out of the park and all the way around... There are stairs (but with a baby stroller) I had to walk out and all the way around - Not far, just had to make sure my child didn't face plant off the jungle gym while I was running all the way around!

My nephews LOVE the playground here…read more Victory Park is an area in Medford that has a soccer field, a basketball court, a tennis court, and what they call a "tot lot". This is a review of the playground. My nephews like it a lot. We call it the "Spiderman playground" because it has these awesome rope-structures you can climb and navigate. When they were 3 or 4, it was a bit difficult, but not impossible to use the rope structure. Now that they are over 5 - it's perfect for them. It also has a lower section of the playground which has some swings and a typical playground jungle-gym thing. It's cool. They always like exploring this place. It has that weird bouncy-floor surface thing going on which is always a plus. It's a bit sunny though - even though there are trees around, there's really no good shade on the lot - so it does get a bit weary on us adults. Ice cream truck usually stops by - awesome. Street-parking only. I think. The field is kind of tucked away behind the "tot lot". It's not a terribly big playground, but it is fenced in from the street and it's worth a visit if you're in the area with your kids.

Lots of children play here, of all nationalities; wonderful opportunity for my toddler to interact with others and be multi-lingual. Adjacent to the playground is a fenced dog-park/grass area for children's soccer/other ball games, so useful to older children and dog-lovers, too. Absolutely love this playground!

They are allowed in the large grassy area behind (and gated off from) the playground. Of course, kids and adults are allowed there too. To give you an idea of the size of that area, I've seen soccer practices happen there.

Well this morning we stopped there for a little bit to let the baby & it indeed is a PERFECT Toddler Park... (see pics) There are 2 kiddie swings & 2 regular swings, a little spider web thing that you can climb on, a little Fire Engine Climb on Thing & then the slide-stairs-climby combination apparatus... They were all small for little kids, there are several benches around the area, and there are also several picnic tables... Its a gated park with only one entrance (the gate actually worked)... It is ideally the greatest little park if you have smaller children who think they are supermen that can climb up the Big Kids slide & jump down it (at least my son does)... The ground was wood chips, which I tend to like much more than sand.. We will definitely be regulars at this park...

This is our regular neighborhood park, and we love it. Kids don't seem to get bored, there are always kids there to play with and in general it isn't too gross... the city does a pretty good job with the upkeep of the grass/flowers/etc.

At first glance, this park seems ordinary. In fact, when we first moved to the area, I rarely took…read moremy daughter there. I figured it couldn't compete with the bigger, flashier, Albion park which is located right in the same neighborhood. Well, yes, Albion does have an amazing splash pad, and a huge piece of land, but because it's so spread out, it's just really not that intimate. Lexington Park on the other hand, is the perfect size. Not so big and spread out that you're constantly chasing your little ones and wearing your feet out, but big enough that the kids get lots of exercise. There are two climbing structures with slides, baby swings,big kid swings, a play house, and a basketball court (often occupied simultaneously by adults shooting hoops and preschoolers on scooters). In the summer, there is a small splash pad which has enough water that the kids LOVE it, but the water isn't very high, so they generally avoid getting soaked (unlike Albion park, where you may as well just go in a bathing suit every time). In addition to the park structures, there are always a bunch of ride-on toys and such that I assume have been donated to the park by parents. This park is awesome for both parents and kids. The sightlines are great for a parent watching more than one child, and the structures aren't overly big. Because the park is sort of divided up into three different sections, the kids have variety and can move from one area to the next to keep it exciting. But the best part of Lexington Park is the feeling of community. It sounds cheesy, but it's true. I almost always see at least a couple familiar faces there, and everyone is incredibly friendly. I've had some amazing conversations with other parents there, and my daughter always has a great time with the other kids. So, if you're new to the area, and you spot this park from the bike path, don't discount it like I initially did. Check it out. Especially around 4pm in the summer. Your kids will thank you. And you will probably become a regular.

SO FUN! I am 22 and very much enjoyed this playground. The ground is that bouncy material which is…read morefun, and all of the musical toys were fun too. One stick is missing from the xylophone and the drums weren't very fun but still good. The biggest slide was fun too. My favorite is that spinning green swirl, super fun physics to that, just don't hit your head or limbs on the surrounding support beams lol. I bet likeminded adults as well as children would have a very fun time here!
