Our almost 3-yo could do most things, but I think even a kid in the low-elementary grades would have a good amount of fun here. We found 2-hour parking along the side of the Cambridge Common; most of the rest was resident only. When we visited in the summer, there was a porta-pottie nearby.

Found this & through it in the Bookmarks, was out yesterday & it was Hot so we decided to take a look... Pulled up right in front of the gate & parked which was great... Was instantly pleased just from looking from the street... Love that the whole park is gated and all the parents there used them every time they went in & out... (I have a 2 YO that loves to run away) There are TONS of tables (some in shade) there are 2 huge playhouse thingys, one is for smaller kids & my son LOVED IT. We walked over to try out the water sprinkler (which is hand activated) but he doesnt love water soo much... There is a cool see saw but he had no desire to try it out, so back to the slide we went... Hate that this park is soo out of the way from home, but if we are ever in the area guarantee we are stopping in.

This is especially dangerous for someone who hopes to walk safely with a dog reactive dog on a leash in this general area. Additionally, like any neighborhood dog park, there seems to be a community of people who frequent this one regularly, at least before work hours. One, with a larger breed dog, was completely indifferent when his dog escalated playtime with my dog and tried to bite him, definitely scaring him. Given that I have encountered dogs that are not necessarily well behaved coupled with the fact that this area is often full of awful leash dogs running where they should not be (recently, I had been going there again because there is a fence limiting pedestrian traffic on the fields, possibly due to some landscaping work). I could not report this incident animal control because my dog was not bitten/had his skin broken, but the rude face the other owner made to me and his dismissive nature of my concern was alarming. There are absolutely some dog parks people go to to just ignore their dogs when they have too much energy, and unfortunately this, like the one on Putnam Street, is becoming that.

In any case, we're regulars now since the green grassy area provides a nice spot for dogs to meet up and play (this park is explicitly NOT off-leash, but if you go on weekends or after work, you'll find regulars exercising their dogs ignoring the rule.) They have two poop-bag dispensers, which is much appreciated since Woofie poops like nobody's business at this park-- I think there's a certain smell of je ne sais quoi from all the canine traffic. And, yup, there's a spot for kids to play. And a blue spinney thing adults can enjoy, too.

Because of its layout, the field's distance from the road, and plentiful supply of poop bags, it's also a de facto dog park. A half dozen tables with chairs for lunch or Connect Four, water fountains peppered throughout and a clean, untarnished feel makes this recent renovation worth swinging the kids by. Street parking is avail, and being off the beaten path, the spots are likely open.

Benches, both covered and un, stay fenced out from where the action takes place, and this setup attracts a wide variety of park-goers: skaters, squirts (the full playground is wee but brand new and totally rad), Sixers and sunning snackers savoring salami sandwiches. Eat the alliteration with a spoon, y'all. I do hope the abundant surrounding residential spaces will keep a close watch on the grounds, as Spring Hill deserves a public space like this and has the community to make sure it stays in great shape.

You'll see people doing yoga, people playing Frisbee, people playing with their dogs, people reading, people catching some sun, and I've even seen a guy doing tightrope between trees. There's plenty of room for all of it. I can walk there, so I don't have to worry about parking. But there's plenty of meters on the street, and it's just a few minutes to walk to Harvard Square, so T access is good.
