Frances Slocum Lake

Took the nephew here for woods and lake fun. Very neat place that wasn't so overloaded with people you couldn't enjoy some nature. Saw a few fishermen, people on rented boats and a few hikers. The trails do tend to twist together, get a map on your way in. Lots of birds and other small wildlife here too.

The lake so pretty

Wow coming from New York this is an amazing park . We brought both of our dogs here and they loved it , I can't wait to come back in cooler weather . I was surprised that we were able to bring our dogs In this season in New York only in the fall and winter dogs are allowed and you have to pay for parking ! The scenes were amazing and I spoke to a friendly lady who said that you can actually use your own rowboats and it's free !!! I don't fish but you can with a permit ! Also , it's beautiful did I say this already , such a nice place to bring your family . There are bbq pits all over this park, there is a children's park , and a swimming pool which didn't seem so full which was only 4 bucks to get into! If you looking for a good time come to this place :)

We originally came to Nay Aug Park because we wanted to visit the Everhart Museum, and we did, but…read morewe had no idea that this park had so much to explore! We ended up walking our dog over to the tree house overlook and the views of the gorge and the water below were genuinely breathtaking. Along the way, we made time to check out Brooks Coal Mine which is an interesting piece of history. It's a small, shallow mind that was built more than 100 years ago and I love that there is a memorial there to all the coal miners who have lost their lives working in the mine. We walked through shaded paths and green spaces taking in the scenery and just really enjoying the vibes here. There were lots of trees and greenspace with quiet benches and so many things to look at. We actually got really excited when we spotted a bug that we had never seen before. I added a photo below and maybe I sound like a crazy person but I'm not from this area. I learned afterwards that it was a spotted lantern fly. Apparently that's not a great thing for the ecosystem and they're kind of a n invasive pest, but you learn something new everyday right? I honestly wish we had planned for more time at the park itself, but we did stay for about an hour and really enjoyed our walk and the fact that our dog was having such a lovely time here. I still feel like there was more for us to see. Parking was easy and entry was free. If you are in the area and just want to stretch your legs or take in the beautiful nature, this is definitely a place to check out.

Worlds End is another fantastic state park in Pennsylvania! There are a lot of sights to see and…read morethings to do. Unfortunately, the weather interfered with our ability to see as much as we had hoped, but we still had a great time! There is a nice visitor center with a variety of historic and nature info available, including some great info on the CCC work that took place in the park (there's a really nice interactive model of a CCC camp too) and how and where the park name is suspected to have been derived from. There is a real snake to look at, as well. A very nice playground is located nearby, and this section of the park also offers easy access to the Loysalsock Creek and the beach with a snack bar, plus multiple picnic tables and shelterhouses. It's beautiful even just to look at the valley walls and the creek itself. There are several gorgeous vistas available, some by foot and some by foot or car. We especially liked the Loyalsock Canyon Vista, which can be reached on foot or by car. It is located next to the Rock Garden, which is a very neat grouping of giant rocks and boulders that is a lot of fun to check out. The park also offers camping and plenty of trails. Worlds End is located within the Loyalsock State Forest, so there is also a lot more that one could explore in the area.

Ricketts Glen used to be my favorite PA state park, but World's End has totally won me over. The…read moremost important reasons: 1) The hikes here are a little more challenging, a little longer, and just generally more enjoyable for me. 2) The family campground is spacious - the tent sites and modern electric sites are interspersed, but you don't feel like you're right on top of the next site over. 3) The bathroom facilities are clean and warm, no matter what time of year I've visited. Big ups to maintenance and the camp hosts. 4) The camp hosts and visitors center personnel are fantastically kind and helpful. They obviously love this park. 5) Fun stuff like the Forksville General Store, Snack stands, swimming hike, Haystacks, Rock Garden, and all kinds of other interesting places to explore! I've been here with friends, with my family, and by myself, and I've thoroughly enjoyed each trip, so I'll definitely be back for more!

"The Way You Think It Is May Not Be the Way It Is At All."…read more This is the beautiful quote that's written out on the park's map that represents what this place truly is. As it states, it is a sanctuary - a sacred place for meditation, quietness and reflection. There are about 90 stones throughout the sanctuary - sourced locally and placed between 1980 and 2005 - that are nearly 3.6 billion (!) years old. Wow. There is a pond area as well, filled with koi fish and other little creatures. Since we've had a long, harsh winter in the North East this year, not much had bloomed and the trees were still bare with lots of anticipating bursts of spring ahead. I did capture a few daffodils and flowers poking their way through some of the brush. The trails are easy, natural and inviting. We arrived fairly early in the AM on a Saturday, and snagged a parking spot. There is limited parking and by the time we were leaving, the spots were all full. I would think the earlier in the day one can come, the better it is all around. Upon leaving a realized there is also a little Resource Center and Gem Shop by the fountains, but we were on our way out and skipped exploring this. Plus I was on my way to (a very clean!) porter-potty (so thankful one was on site.) toilet paper & hand sanitizer, too! Just as an FYI Thoroughly enjoyed coming here and exploring this beautiful, simple space. I love that they're a sanctuary, a non-profit organization committed to preserving nature's beauty and diversity. My heart was happy. Thankful. Inspiring. Would love to possibly create a similar nature sanctuary in the city one day.
