Horses are well trained, and unlike other trail horses, they take a wide swath through the trees and don't try to pin you. It's obvious that they take good care of their horses. Not seeing any directions or address, I called to find out the new address. The man immediately barked at me that they had moved and "he didn't have time to discuss this". When I again tried to obtain directions, I was again met with a bark. He then stated if we didn't have reservations that we couldn't go till one. The website does recommend reservations however we decided with short notice to go (no open business hours to call prior to our decision). I will not attempt to support this business again.

The workers know the horses best. Mouse is on the slower side but I still enjoyed my time on him. They know which horse hasn't been out yet, has more energy for the ride, etc. All the horses did a great job and they're friendly. At the end of the ride, mouse turned around to look at me while I was still on him. He's so funny... I guess he wanted to see who kept talking him. On the ride we saw turkeys and deer. Kim is a great teacher who praises when praise is warranted and firm when it comes to safety issues and paying attention. I loved that. This isn't your average "pony ride.' My grandkids groomed, sprayed and saddled the horses (with lots of help from Kim, her daughter, and other experienced riders). They learned some riding basics and after the grooming/saddling/instruction, were able to ride by themselves in a large fenced in area. I highly recommend this stable if you happen to be in the area. With my experience level, we were able to do decent bursts of cantering uphill, and Waffles has quite the motor for a draft! there is such a variety of horses and sizes that there is likely a personality to fit any person (within reason). on the hilltop boogie ride, the farm we passed through was beautiful and it was fun to see the other animals. The trails were beautiful as well, with red-tailed hawks soaring overhead, bucks leering at us warily through the trees, and various other critters to spot from the trail. All the staff was friendly, sharing jokes and quips before and after the ride when we passed by. The solo fee is extremely reasonable, as was the price of the ride itself. For those who haven't experienced it, the creek crossing would be fun! I guide beginner trail rides for work in Pennsylvania, and I learned a few helpful tricks and ideas to implement over there. I can confidently recommend this facility, and Zoe as a guide!

Here's why: Erika, the owner, takes the time to learn about each prospective rider before you come so she can pair you with the perfect horse. So be sure and take the time to let them know in the online questionnaire how you are with horses and riding. I'm a confident rider and got a great horse for me where my husband isn't as confident rider and he was paired with a sweet easy going horse, Faye. Actually all the horses are sweet and wonderful. We did a one hour trail ride. The trail was fun - not too challenging and we even got to stop by a beautiful creek so the horses could take a drink. It's absolutely magical & no better way to see the beauty of this region. Now the horses: They are all beautiful, very healthy and thus happy. You can get to know them on the Painted Bar Stables website! Many are rescued and have been revitalized by being in this wonderful place. I can't wait to return.
