Definitely recommend for first time and beginning riders. Come during off season. My wife and I had a private ride with Kelly. She was terrific in giving my wife tips on how to ride and make the entire experience enjoyable. Horses are well trained, and unlike other trail horses, they take a wide swath through the trees and don't try to pin you. It's obvious that they take good care of their horses. After reading the reviews on this stable, We were looking forward to a ride. We drove to the location listed on their website and was greeted by a sign that says "moved nearby". Not seeing any directions or address, I called to find out the new address. The man immediately barked at me that they had moved and "he didn't have time to discuss this". When I again tried to obtain directions, I was again met with a bark. He then stated if we didn't have reservations that we couldn't go till one. The website does recommend reservations however we decided with short notice to go (no open business hours to call prior to our decision). Awesome Experience I'm a little late posting this review but better late than never. We were in the Poconos last summer and wanting to scratch something off my bucket list, I decided to go horseback riding and talked my husband into it. I booked with Deer Path Riding Stables. Upon arrival we were greeted by John the owner, he was very nice. He introduced his lovely wife and daughter who were extremely helpful explaining what to expect during the ride and how to best interact with our horse. You could tell how much everyone involved cared about the horses and our safety. Based on our weight (yes you have to weigh in) we were paired with our horse. My husband rode Honey and I rode Milo. We set out for our ride with John the cowboy who was an EXCELLENT teacher, guide and genuinely nice person. He was very patient with us! We had an amazing ride during which we spoke of our families. John constantly checked in to make sure we were having a great time. My husband was nervous at first but enjoy it so much that he wants us to do it again this summer. At the end of the ride they took many pictures of us so we could have memories of our experience. We left with a BIG SMILE! We're both looking forward to returning this summer. read more

It was a last minute decision and so glad I did this. My husband and brother and I weather a horse back riding experience and this was perfect. We are beginners and just wanted to be able to take our time to ride around. John is the owner and he checked us in. Because we called before, it was a simple process- they have a selection of helmets and boots for your use. They explained the process thoroughly and took time to get to know us. Kelly was guide and was awesome! She was able to understand the comfort level for all of us individually and helps us. It was a 45 min through a scenic route based on your comfort level. You have the option to go faster if you want but again, only if you are comfortable. Afterwards, they even took our pics. I really recommend coming here, It was a great experience. read more

My family and I took a trail ride here during a family reunion weekend. As an avid rider, I'm very conscious of equine safety for both horse and rider. The people running this establishment are top-notch. They provide helmets, boots, and detailed instruction on how to mount and dismount. They also pointed out the importance of keeping a safe distance between horses, how to property position your body while going up and down hills, as well as trotting. The horses seemed happy and well cared for, and the tack fit properly. We had riders of all ages and everyone loved it. This riding stable is excellent! My girlfriend and I went on a snowy Friday afternoon in March, and we had a wonderful time! I have been riding many times, but my girlfriend was a first timer. Kelly was a great guide and was very helpful and knowledgeable about horses... and was very patient with teaching a first timer. Since it was a cold day and a weekday, we were the only ones riding... I thought the horses would have trouble in the snow but they loved it! We got to trot some and the horses are all well behaved and taken care of. I didn't even go! I'll give an honest story. I had a prior engagement that ran way over. Earlier the owner said to contact him if I need to reschedule but there would be a fee. So I called him to let him know I was running late. I was 15 mins away. Unforately I got lost and I rerouted to where I started. He called to ask where I was. I apologized informed him I'm still at my location but I'm trying to get there. It went downhill from there. When I tell you he had an attitude. It was a really freaking big attitude. I apologized and asked if he can just reschedule me. "well no I can't reschedule. and it's a fee" so i tell him I know but its fine because I know you have group that is waiting. I don't want to hold anyone up. He just insist he can't reschedule. no reason provided, so I quickly add well I am on route now. Then click, he hangs up on me! I understand I was late but I was trying to find a way to be reasonable. He was completely rude and gave no attempt to try to assist me. That is not how you treat customers and that is not a way to provide good service. I wasn't even clear if I should show up or not. My boyfriend got me there but I told him to forget it and keep driving! Next time I'll book some where else. read more

Our family (3 kids, 2 adults) went up this past week for a ride. My daughter (10 years old) was really looking forward to horseback riding. They provide boots and helmets, which was great as we definitely did not have the right footwear. They took the time to explain how to mount, dismount, and steer the horse, which eased everyone's nerves a bit as it was our first time horseback riding. Our guide was a young lady who was super pleasant. My daughter really enjoyed her ride, the guide talked to her, asked her lots of questions, and all around made her day. Four of us went for a morning guided horseback ride in the woods and we had a blast. Despite it being 15 degrees outside, we were really enjoying our ride. I had a horrible experience here. The ladies on staff were great; they went into detail with instructions, led my group through the trails, even teaching us how to ride while trotting. The horses were wonderful. The trails were well-kept. But the attitude I got from John before and after our ride was ridiculous. He lectured my friend when she called to make a reservation, he gave attitude to another friend paying with credit card, he yelled at me for confirming that we can't wear sneakers (you need boots with suitable heels, which you can borrow there), he yelled at me for having my cell phone out when I got there, he yelled at me after the ride because my horse was close to another horse and since there wasn't room to go forward or backward he just kept scolding me, accusing me of not listening. And then he wanted to argue when I told him his attitude was awful and he wasn't giving constructive instruction. I'm a middle-aged woman being treated like a bad child, and from what I saw he talks to his staff the same way, he smacked my horse in the face, and then he wants to argue and blame me for his anger. Is this normal?? All of the stables I've been to have employees who act like they love their jobs, people, and their animals. Maybe John was just having a bad day, but I think until this place improves, people should save the horseback riding for somewhere else. There are way too many other fun things to do in the Poconos to waste time being treated like dirt. read more

The trail ride was very nice for beginners but they also did some jogging if the group agreed, which was nice for the more experienced riders. Overall the experience was great and we will definitely be back. :) They also have riding boots available at no cost in a wide variety of sizes. Sneakers are not going to cut it due to safety. First of all the ad for this stable says "reservations suggested not required". When my husband and I decided on a whim to see if there was any availability the owner was downright rude. He said "most people make reservations but we can take you." I guess my husband asked too many questions because the owner said "read the sign" and then he said sarcastically "do you want me to read the sign to you?" He then mockingly started to read him the sign. The way he spoke to my husband was demeaning and shameful. There was no way we were going to pay to be insulted. The owner of this establishment must not need business because we took our business elsewhere. Take my advice, it's worth it to go to Daisy's Farm if you want to horseback ride. Had a great experience here. John and John are both very knowledgeable and their concern for rider safety is obvious. John the tour guide was like a friendly cowboy and his guidance through the tour was great. I've taken lessons sporadically before, however there were first time riders in my group and I liked that he tried to teach us the correct way to position ourselves and ride, even if the horses were well trained enough that they just did what trail horses do. Our group was intimate which was awesome (only 4 of us). The other John who handles the phone and check in is what I would call gruff; I can see why people would construe his words as rudeness (as noted in other reviews here and on trip advisor) To be honest we almost didn't come because of something he had said when we called. However, upon talking to him a bit more and seeing him juggle answering questions on the phone while checking our tack and correcting our positioning (while we were mounting up before starting the trail) you can see why he can sound preoccupied on the phone and that it is not meant to be malicious in anyway. I appreciated all his tips and he is really nice to talk to, with a dry sense of humor I enjoyed:) They allow trotting if everyone in the group agrees which I loved. Like other users said, you will be required to wear their boots, helmet is optional for adults. Wear weather appropriate stuff (nov = gloves, hats, layers). I had my phone on a lanyard so I could feel more secure trying to take pictures but they will take a few pics for u at the end of the ride. Current prices were $36 for 1 hour trail ride cash, $39 credit. And don't forget tip bc u WILL enjoy urself! :) They will tell you the address on the brochure will give you the wrong directions but we just googled Deer Path Riding Stables in google maps and it was fine. I will never, ever go back to this place. John, the owner was a completely arrogant ass. I went for a ride with my 9 and 12 year old. My 9 year old had no issues following directions because she is very athletic and picks up things very quickly. My 12 year old however, is not athletic nor does he follow direction without more detail. John yelled at my son numerous times to sit up straight and keep his heels down. After the first 15 minutes of the ride, John yells to me that I should've told him that my son has special needs and I should've made special arrangements for him ahead of time. He also told me that I obviously didn't care about my children and the next time I wanted to take them for a trail ride to not come back to his stable. Trust me when I tell you that my son only tried to make sure he was doing what he was told and asked numerous times if he was doing it right. Not once did my son argue or defy what John was telling him. After the ride, John was talking to the other guide whip was not with us on the trail and I heard her say "that's enough". She then came over to me and tried to smooth things over by thanking me for coming. I walked away in shock. Just rude, plain rude. read more
