A little internet surfing revealed its fun history of being a bohemian gathering place, a home for nuns, and now a local culinary staple. The tall, narrow building and compartmentalized floor plan made it feel like an eclectic old home repurposed. The restaurant is on the second floor, accessible by a charming staircase or a little elevator. Before going upstairs, I noticed there is a bar and what looks like an art studio on the first floor. It gave cute, vintage bohemian/old world European vibes. We were seated quickly at arguably the best table in the house, right by a window overlooking the street and cacti. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable--so, I trustingly took his recommendations. We started with the bread and butter; there were four slices of toasted sourdough and a pad of rosemary infused butter. As thin as the slices were, I thought it was going to be more like a crostini than a bread but, much to my surprise, it still had a delightful chew. The butter was spreadable, salted perfectly, and the rosemary aroma was just right. My friend ordered the salmon and I ordered the lamb burger and both were different experiences. The lamb was juicy and well seasoned, while the fries were crispy, herby, and not greasy at all. As a slow eater, I was particularly impressed that the bottom bun maintained its structural integrity--no soggy buns here! The highlight was the chili morita aioli. Whichever chef created that pairing knew exactly what they were doing (bravo!). My friend's assessment of his salmon entree--was that it was very well cooked and the salmon was tender and moist, however, it did lack some flavor. The saving grace for him were the cocktails. He ordered the Gigi and the Beargrass and both received his stamp of approval for presentation and taste. Between the food, service, atmosphere, and fascinating history, Liberty Bar made quite the impression on me. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu and the building's story!

The bartender spent much of my visit sitting at the end of the bar sketching while service moved at a very slow pace. At one point, two people who appeared to be managers or senior staff came to the bar, spoke quietly with the bartender while repeatedly looking in my direction, and it made for an uncomfortable experience while I was filming a quick TikTok. I ordered the chilaquiles and found them surprisingly bland. I had to ask for hot sauce, and the only options were Tabasco or Cholula. In a city with such incredible Mexican food, I was hoping for something with a little more flavor or a house-made salsa. On the positive side, the Bloody Mary was very good--I'd happily order it again. This review I dug up is from a while ago, things may have changed…read more February 2020 was my first time at Savor (CIA) restaurant in the Pearl complex of San Antonio. By going on a Wednesday (around 7:30 PM) we were able to find parking and be seated without a reservation, but I recommend planning ahead other nights as the area gets very busy (and noting their hours). It was a pretty compact space, no lighting issues, but also quite noisy. My companion and I had to concentrate on each other to carry on conversation. We each ordered the four course menu, which lets you pick one of an item from each course, and I added a wine flight. We each took a bite of each other's food for maximum exploration. Keep in mind this is a training restaurant, and part of the proceeds go toward culinary scholarships. I can distill the experience into three points: The food was very good, the chefs-in-training are talented; The wine flight was disappointing; The server was warm but still in need of training. Dishes I got to try include the Hamachi Crudo, Steamed Blue Mussels, Tartar Brulee, Strip Sirloin, Grilled Pork Tenderloin and Belly, and Chocolate Souffle. The Hamachi was excellent, as were the mussels with potatoes and garlic (someone didn't share her chorizo with me). The main course strip sirloin was also excellent, and better than the grilled pork I chose. The steak was tender and moist. I gravitate toward pork belly items, but this pork was a tad dry. The chocolate souffle wowed my partner, but I found the cocoa note not to be to my liking, perhaps too bitter. I should add that the plates are quite small, so you may not leave full if you're very hungry. Before going into the negative, let me say the food was a fun experience, and I'd go back for another multi-course meal, or to explore the bar bites menu. The wine flight was a letdown, as it was small pours of mild wine, served with two word descriptions, one of which was plain wrong. I don't drink much wine, but I've had enough to know that these wines were probably chosen to be the least offensive. A small pour of a bold drink can have quite some value, but the small pours exacerbated the boringness. The wine service largely informs my opinion the server needs improvement/was likely early on her training rotation. I also had to plate swap with my companion when I was served her mussels. People trying and improving are to be expected at a training or test kitchen, so I appreciate her effort and ability to keep my water glass at least half full. We ended up being quite happy with the food and experience, which was good overall as a date night, but could've been better with a revamp of the wine pairing, or me electing not to have wine. I can't see myself going on my own given the price point of the courses, but I like to treat my partner. I'd recommend it if you're curious about the budding chefs or specific menu items, but be wary of the wine flight.

We ordered a lot of items off of the elite menu, which to be honest, far exceeds a happy hour menu. The selection of drinks, mocktails, and food items are some of the absolute best we have seen anywhere. Since we ordered a lot of items, they brought it out to us on a long flight board presented beautifully. But let me back up for a minute, before our food came out, Celeste brought us hot and fresh out of the oven potato rolls that were absolutely perfect. They had a slight sweetness with a savory butter and they just melt in your mouth, they are so soft! So for food items, we ordered the following: *Jumbo prawns - blackened two perfection, perfectly salted and chefs kiss with a squeeze of lemon, 10/10 *4 oz filet mignon - I don't even like filet mignon because I don't feel it is anything special but this one was seasoned to perfection and cut like butter 10/10 *Prime sliders - these were excellent, caramelized onion on a soft and gently toasted brioche bun, and they brought us ketchup and Dijon mustard 9/10 *Steak fries - we ordered these without the aïoli and they finished them off in the oven and dusted with Parmesan cheese, they were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and perfectly seasoned 10/10 *Spaghettini pasta - on the surface nothing about this looks or sounds special, but Celeste assured us that it was so we took our chances. It has got to be some of the best pasta I have ever eaten in my life. The texture and the flavors were amazing, whatever that sauce is, it is absolutely heaven sent! 10/10 *Pork belly - I really wanted to love this, but for me, I would have preferred that fat to be a bit more crispy. Other people came in after me and found their own seats as well. I watched the server go to their table, bring them water, etc. I had chosen a very obvious location where I could be seen from pretty much anywhere in the restaurant, but the server did not come to my table. She started clearing and wiping down tables nearby, but did not come to my table. I watched her do this for ten minutes. She spoke to customers at three other tables, but did not come to my table. I went to one of the other tables and excused myself for interrupting the diners, but I was afraid I had become invisible, an emergency I felt warranted the interruption. They assured me that they could in fact see and hear me, that I was neither invisible nor had I died and become a ghost. Phew. I'd love to tell you about the food but since I didn't even get a glass of water I can't help you. I should add that I was dressed casually but I was clean and well kempt. There were big fat hairy men in tank tops and shorts getting served, so I don't believe my appearance was the issue. Some servers don't like to serve single customers because they don't think they'll leave enough of a tip to make it worthwhile. They'd prefer singles to sit at the bar. Well I don't like sitting at the bar, and I'm a good tipper, which is also beside the point. I have to assume this is a problem with management, by which I mean a good manager corrects this kind of behavior, and if that doesn't work, fires the server. I don't generally try to get people in trouble but this person prioritized wiping down tables over serving me, when the restaurant was 90% empty. Those tables could have waited for the 90 seconds it would have taken to bring me a menu and a glass of water. So just to be extra clear, this happened on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at 3 PM, and I sat in the dining room to the left of the bar, if you're facing the restaurant from the hotel lobby. Though judging from what I saw I don't expect anyone to care. I mean ... you didn't even have a host or hostess out front.
