Came here for dinner with my husband and daughter. We ordered the dip sampler as an appetizer. For my meal I ordered the chicken gyro and my husband ordered the bacon wrapped souvlaki. We ate everything! We enjoyed the spicy feta dip the best. We weren't fans of the hummus. The appetizer only came with 4 small pieces of pita bread so we asked for more. It was an extra $1 for pita bread. I think they should give more pita with the dips so it's more proportionate. The service and ambiance were good. read more

We ordered fries, a chicken, Gyro, and three beef skewers, but we received almost none of that. The beef skewers that I ordered only came with the one instead of three. I had to pay for three and I didn't get what I paid for. My wife got a chicken Gyro, but instead they gave her a lamb Gyro. She's not a big fan of lamb and this ruined her dinner. Well I hate to right a review but this one was coming for a while now. This place back in June I had ordered from uber eats and they left out the large tomato salad which was close to 20 bucks the guy told me I would be reimbursed yeah ok will not hold my breath, last night went into the place no one was in there ordered a gyro from a man who was sitting down just got a weird vibe as if I was a bother. First bite I knew something was off and today well the toilet is my best friend as you can say. On this lunch delivery edition, I chose King Souvlaki to try, having only had Greek once. The portions were a generous amount, more than enough for lunch! My Chicken Souvlaki Platter ($18) came with chicken skewers, house salad, pita bread, and choice of 2 sides, which I chose Lemon Potatoes and Rice. The Lemon Potatoes I tried were not very good. They offer a strong citrus taste, but not over my rice too! The sauce dripped right into my poor rice, which left everything tasting very sour over at that area. Luckily, my Chicken Skewers were safe from the zest, and super delicious! There were mixed reviews saying they were dry, but not at all! I could totally eat more of these, given the juicy consistency. They went well with my Tirokafteri sauce. Overall, I enjoyed it, although I do think it depends on your food pick, as my brother's pork was dry. Best of all was the care they put into their utensils! I've been wanting to visit King Souvlaki for a few months now and just never got around to it until this evening when I decided to walk over and make an order to take out. I kept the order simple, a gyro to go and I made no special requests of it since I wanted to see how they made it. I opted for the classic lamb as the meat as opposed to chicken or pork and had to say that they do load up the meat in this offering. The coat the pita bread with the tzaziki sauce and placed some tomatoes around this and then a handful of red onions. Once the meat was in place they added a handful of french fries to this which is something very new to me. The limitations and restrictions on dining in prevented me from even trying to sit down and eat this at the establishment but I will say that everyone was keeping distant, wearing masks and gloves and the place was spotless. It also smelled amazing from all the other dishes being cooked. I dug into the gyro once at home and can say that I really liked how they made it and would order again but the next time I will make the following changes. Since my stomach can't handle them much anymore I'd need a lot less onions so maybe they'll give me more tomatoes instead. I also didn't like the idea of the french fries made as a part of the sandwich. I generally like my fries off to the side. Lastly I think I prefer the sauce on top of the meat not soaking into the bread under it. Call me fussy I guess. Overall this was a good experience despite my not staying in the place. I'd come back and try something else for sure. Maybe I will try and actual souvlaki platter or a spanikopita. Those are always tasty dishes and I am sure that this place does them well. read more

This was a hot night spot for years and now opens as another take on Greek Food in Bay Ridge. King Souvlaki has a food truck following in Astoria Queens and Midtown Manhattan. Overall the food trucks average about 4.5 stars, nice way to go. They have a great story as the owners had the American dream and started their first food truck in 1979. They just opened what I believe is their first store front location about a week ago. From the initial reaction the neighborhood they will be successful. They have good prices, plenty of help, everyone is nice, its very clean and the owners or bosses are on hand which makes a HUGE difference. They have a few restaurants that are direct competition to them. Blue Door across the street and Something Greek which is by 77 street and 3 ave. This was my first visit, they were packed as you can see by my photos, and they are doing a booming take out business as well. Currently they do not have delivery, although they plan on it. They also plan on serving wine and beer although currently it is BYOB which is great until they have their license. I gave them 5 stars for the overall experience, I give credit when a business is well thought out and the owners are proud and put attention to details. The only downside is that it can take about 20 minutes for your main course to come out and that is not for a lack of staffing. They are just very busy. I am sure that will improve over time. The food was very tasty and I tried the chicken breast platter. There is plenty of food. It comes with salad, pita bread, tzatziki, and a choice of lemon potatoes, fries or rice. Everything tasted great. They have an extensive menu although the show stopper was the King Plate. They advertise this as a mouthwatering mix of all four hand stacked gyros. Souvlaki sticks (3) homemade Bifteki and Greek Sausage. All piled over a bed of hand cut fries, toasted Pita Bread, Tzatziki Tirokafteri and king sauce. The small size which is enough for four in my opinion is $38.95 and the large is $59.80 that will serve an army. There are plenty of appetizers and starters to choose from. Cheeses, dips, grilled Portobello mushrooms and more. They offer all kinds of salads and they have Avgolemono soup which is Egg Lemon Chicken. They also have a soup of the day. They offer desert including Greek donuts, Greek yogurt and a desert of the day. I recommend you try them and welcome them to the neighborhood. read more

I order delivery from King Souvlaki pretty frequently, almost once a week [oops..] and I absolutely love their food. Delivery is also super fast and the person doing the delivery leaves the package at the door and walks away [virtual high-five for COVID-19 safety]. At first glance the price seems steep but the portion sizes are pretty big. If you're a normal person you can make two meals out of the Lamb Gyro Platter [$17.75] and the Greek Yogurt with grape sweet preserves [$7.50] but if you're me, you eat it in one sitting and are absolutely satisfied. The gyro on the plate is overwhelming fragrant, my cat always seems want to take a swipe at some [all for me, none for her]. I particularly love the accompanying pita bread which is always light and fluffy and quite buttery. The salad on the side is actually pretty good too and provides some acidity. The tirokafteri [spicy feta] is perfectly spicy. I could eat it out of the cup with a spoon. It tastes almost like buffalo sauce once it's mixed with some ranch dressing- but way better. I don't know what to say about the Greek yogurt- it's Greek yogurt. Everyone should know what that tastes like. The grape preserves are pretty sweet and you do get a generous amount poured on top, with it's sauce. Going out on a limb here and saying, this is pretty healthy for takeout and it doesn't break the bank [about $30 about tax and tip]. Tip your delivery people well, folks! read more

Listen folks, I take Greek food seriously. When done correctly, it's one of my favorite cuisines. I have tried plenty of the takeout spots in Bay Ridge, but hands down, King Souvlaki is my new favorite. For approx. $16/$17 you can get a massive lamb/beef gyro platter with fries, a dressed salad, pita and a dip of your choice. If you add on extra pita for $1.50 (the real pro move here), you can easily feed 2 grown adults. And by feed I mean, you can feed and stuff 2 grown adults. This is a very reasonable price per person. Greek food in this area can get unnecessarily expensive, but not here. Delivery has been fast each time. I have ordered 1 platter and I have ordered 5, but the food always arrives quickly (and still hot). read more

The food is hit or miss. The first time we visited, it was fairly decent. The second time, it was more of a miss. The two stars are for a severe lack of service though. It took us one hour and 20 minutes to receive a basic greek salad and 2 gyro sandwiches. All while about 4 employees chatted out front, smoking cigarettes, laughing and joking with each other - which is cool, on downtime, and not when patrons are waiting for their food. Also, the inside was completely empty and the outside had only two tables with customers. I honestly do not understand what the hold up was. The waiter ended up apologizing. He forgot to give the chef our order and he never came back out. We reminded the manager, again, after waiting for 40 minutes, and said we would just leave if they still had not filled the order. She assured us they were making it and there was no need to leave. She also said as a courtesy they would offer us a free dessert on the house. Free dessert is nice. It was a kind gesture. It still sucked to have to wait so long for food (insult to injury to see so many of their staff just carelessly enjoying themselves with no regard to us to boot) but it was the gesture. The check arrived and no free dessert came with it. When we mentioned it to the waiter, he said he needed to look into it for us. At that point, we did not want to wait another hour for this free comp to make up for all the waiting. So we left. A restaurant with mediocre food, long wait times and empty promises. Within an hour after having the chicken gyros my family had upset stomachs . The food didn't sit well at all which sucked . There was a relatively strong taste that overwhelmed the gyro . I couldn't see anything unusual after dissecting it so I suspect it's probably some oil that was used that might have been the cause of the unsettled tummys . Either way , I was naturally disappointed because the actual pita bread, the portion and the cut of the meat they give were excellent. We waited to have our orders be taken for about 25 min. We notice the table next to us had been there before us and they were taken care of after us. No big deal. Portions are great. Food is absolutely flavorful and fresh. Husband ordered pork gyro and I the lamb. Delish. Truly. We finished up. I asked for what I had left on my plate in a to go box and an extra side of tzatziki. We waited forever for a check and we were sitting right by the register! I just felt like service staff were a little distracted or not trained properly. I absolutely love their food! We placed a few large orders from them already that included a wide variety of different dishes. I must say all were very good. Pork Souvlaki is my favorite: I switch up from getting the plate option with lemon potatoes (yum) to the sandwich option! Both are amazing! I also love the soup they serve, nothing like I ever tried. It is a bit thick but I like it. The inside of the restaurant is nice and casual, no need for a gown and heels! The staff though; some are nice ... some need to TRY HARDER to be nice.
