If you want really good seafood swing by their location. I would say call first but, they never answer the phone. So you may end up wasting a trip from across town just to see in person that they don't abide by their posted hours of operation. BANDAS seafood is a very good option and is close by. Stopped for dinner last night, but unfortunately they closed an hour early... at 7. So, lunch today. Drive thru only, and there was quite the line, but it goes fast. After you pay, you pull forward into a line, and they bring your food out to you. All of the previous posted menus are out of date, and the prices have gone up just a bit. But I am happy to pay $11 for a plate of drum with coleslaw. Especially when I get this huge drum filet, perfectly cooked!! Their tarter sauce is superb. I got the coleslaw instead of the fries, because I did not want to fill up my stomach with a bunch of starch. Perfect hole in the wall spot for great seafood at a great price. We pulled up a little after 2pm on a Wednesday and it was still crowded. Good sign. I had grilled flounder, fried shrimp, fries and coleslaw. It was all cooked perfectly and very flavorful. Even the coleslaw was well seasoned. The portions aren't huge but they are well sized and the prices are spot on. We both loved our lunch and were happy to find this spot. Will definitely be a regular when in town! read more

Lending a Hand to Your Lenten Choices Two places come to mind when I think of lunch during the Lenten season, Banda's Seafood at 2751 S Port Ave, Corpus Christi, TX 78405 and King Seafood at 3315 Baldwin Blvd, Corpus Christi, TX 78405. Both places are a staple to many of us in central Corpus Christi, TX. During the Lenten season, those of the Catholic faith eat seafood on Fridays. I don't even think it's a requirement any more but that's how we roll. I have tried both places within the past couple of weeks and I have a favorite. Both have a wide array of dishes from which to choose, it might take a newbie a while to figure out what they want. They are both about the same as far as prices go, Banda's is slightly more expensive but not so much that it would make that big a difference. My lunch at Banda's was $12.89 and at King Seafood it was $12.17. They are both fairly quick. They are both SUPER popular so when you get there (especially at noon on Friday's during Lent) they are super packed and it may take you longer than you might expect for fast food. But, in my humble opinion, I think King Seafood is the better choice. I ordered catfish plates at each restaurant. Each plate came with a filet and French fries. The reason why I choose King Seafood as the best is because, to me, the flavor is just better. The catfish tastes lighter and fresher and they have waffle fries. Waffle fries are hard to beat. But, even with the French fries, it comes back to the flavor. At Banda's you get a couple wedges of a large russet potato and it has a coating on it that really doesn't add to the flavor of the potato. Well, that's my humble opinion. Excellent fish, shrimps and oysters. Came by here today and decided to get their 10 fish and shrimps platter (22$), and their 6 shrimps and 6 oysters (13.20$) combo. The fish and shrimp were great and oysters were excellent. Everything tasted fresh and for sure wasn't frozen like other places. Each order comes with with rolls, lemons and tartar sauce that was nothing like I've tasted before. The staff here are nice and pleasant. They even have drive thru order for takeout. Saw the reviews and tried this place for lunch. There was a pretty long line, so I figured the reviews must've been right. I got the fried shrimp and fries and was pretty disappointed. The shrimp is the frozen kind you get at a generic restaurant hundreds of miles from the coast. But if you're gonna call yourself a seafood spot and you're *on the coast,* you better bring it. This wasn't fresh shrimp. It was frozen and processed. I gave it two stars because I didn't try anything else, but not sure I'll be back to do so. read more

Like many others have said, don't let the outside fool you. I almost did but stuck it out because the place had been personally recommended to me by more than one person. I went during lunchtime and the parking lot and drive thru situation was pretty hairy. Decided to do the drive thru and immediately regretted that choice as it felt like the slower option. It took a long time and I only had one car ahead of me. Once my food arrived though, I could understand what the hype was about. The breading on the fish was unique in a good way. I decided to google and ventured out to King Seafood, a little hole in the wall in corpus Christi. Seafood was excellent and not greasy, customer service was also great. We had high hopes for this little spot after looking at Yelp but were very disappointed. We ordered fish, shrimp, fries, and hush puppies. The fish tasted like frozen, store bought fish (they almost had a chemical like after taste) and were so watery they made the crust soggy on the bottom where they were sitting in our tray. The shrimp weren't great either - they didn't have much flavor. The only thing they had going for them was their hush puppies and I'm pretty sure those store bought also. Also.... maybe I should mention the bullet holes in the glass window where we were sitting (covered up with a piece of clear packing tape)?
